Government committed to hold upcoming elections in free and fair manner: PM
Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba said that the government is committed to hold the November 20 federal and provincial elections in a free and fair environment. Addressing a program organized on the occasion of Constitution Day in Tundikhel on Monday, Prime Minister Deuba expressed his confidence that the government would get support from all the people. “We are going to conduct the federal and provincial elections on November 20. The government is committed to hold the elections in a free, fair and peaceful manner,” he said. The Prime Minister said that the government has been working day and night for political stability and to ensure good governance in the country. “Various rules and regulations have been formulated to implement the Constitution,” he said. Saying that Nepal witnessed a huge political change, he said that it is the duty of all to institutionalize it. PM Deuba further said that there is a need to work with integrity and honesty. He said that the responsibility rested on the shoulders of people to fulfill the dreams of the martyrs and to take the country towards the path of prosperity.
Constitution Day: 998 individuals to receive decorations and titles
President Bidya Devi Bhandari has announced to confer various decorations and titles on 998 individuals on the occasion of the Constitution Day and National Day, 2079 BS at the recommendation of the Council of Ministers. Names of the individuals to be decorated on the occasion were made public as per the decision of the Council of Ministers in accordance with the Article 277 of the Nepal Constitution. The announcement was made in a statement issued today by the Spokesperson of the Office of the President, Sagar Acharya.
President Bhandari attends main function of Constitution Day
President Bidya Devi Bhandari attended the main function organized on the occasion of the 8th Constitution Day and National Day at Army Pavilion, Tundikhel, on Monday. Vice-President Nanda Bahadur Pun, Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, acting Chief Justice Deepak Kumar Karki, Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota, National Assembly Chairperson Ganesh Prasad Timilsina, ministers, constitutional bodies chiefs, high-placed government officials, chiefs and representatives of foreign diplomatic missions in Kathmandu were also present in the program. On the occasion, flowers were showered through a helicopter of the Nepal Army while several cultural processions along with musical bands of the Nepal Army, Nepal Police and Armed Police Force were performed with the national anthem. Prime Minister Deuba had addressed the special ceremony.
Constitution Day being observed today (In pictures)
Constitution Day is being observed with various programs across the country today. The day marks the promulgation of the constitution written by the people's representatives from the Constituent Assembly on 20 September 2015.
The present constitution is the seventh written constitution of Nepal, which has aimed to establish socialism via citizen's socioeconomic and cultural rights. It bears special significance for it was promulgated by the Constituent Assembly that was based on the second people's movement, peace accord and peace process.
The peace accord was signed earlier between the seven political parties and the rebellious CPN-Maoist.
Importantly, it has formally institutionalized the new system of federal democratic republic with the abolition of the unitary system and monarchy.
A special function is being organized at the Army Pavilion at Tundikhel this morning.
Nepal Television and Radio Nepal will livecast the formal celebration of Constitution Day to be held at the Army Pavilion at Tundikhel in Kathmandu.
