Milan clinch win with two quick-fire goals in rainy Genoa clash

AC Milan secured a 2-1 victory over Genoa in a rainy Monday Serie A clash, with a rapid second-half turnaround driven by Rafael Leao's equaliser and an own goal from Morten Frendrup, Reuters reported.

The result keep Milan at ninth place with 57 points, six points behind Juventus in fourth with three rounds remaining.

Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan was the stand-out performer in a first half largely dominated by Genoa, making several crucial saves to keep his side level at the break.

The second half started in a largely uninspired fashion, with the relentless downpour proving more consistent than the football, as play was frequently halted for injury treatments, according to Reuters.

PBKS thrash LSG by 37 runs

Arshdeep Singh's devastating powerplay spell practically ended Lucknow Super Giants' slender chances of chasing down a mammoth target of 237. Ayush Badoni and Abdul Samad put up a charge after the 10th over but it was all too little too late. LSG finished with a score of 199/7 and thus lost by 37 runs, Hindustan Times reported.

Arshdeep dismissed openers Aiden Markram and Mitchell Marsh in his second over and then got the all-important wicket of Nicholas Pooran in his next. Rishabh Pant failed to make an impact once again, losing his bat and his wicket at the same time on 18 off 17. Ayush Badoni and Abdul Samad then put up an 81-run stand off 41 balls. Samad missed out on a half-century but Badoni got there in 32 balls.

Prabhsimran Singh led the way while captain Shreyas Iyer and Shashank Singh added their own big-hitting magic dust as Punjab Kings posted a daunting total of 236/5 against Lucknow Super Giants in Dharamsala. Shashank joined Prabhsimran Singh after the dismissal of captain Shreyas Iyer and has taken the Punjab Kings run rate to a different level. Prabhsimran, who scored his fourth consecutive half-century, was then dismissed just nine runs short of a century, according to Hindustan Times.

Bayern Munich crowned Bundesliga champion for 33rd time after Bayer Leverkusen drew a tie against Freiburg

Bayern Munich has been crowned Bundesliga champion for a record-extending 33rd time with two games remaining after its closest title rival Bayer Leverkusen drew a 2-2 tie against SC Freiburg on Sunday afternoon, CNN reported.

Down 2-1 in extra time, Bayer Leverkusen’s Jonathan Tah leveled the game on a flicked header which found the far bottom corner at Europa-Park Stadion. But the dramatic equalizer was not enough to deprive Munich of yet another Bundesliga trophy.

Bayern was on the verge of claiming the title on Saturday after goals from Eric Dier, Michael Olise and Leroy Sané powered Vincent Kompany’s team to a remarkable comeback against RB Leipzig, which had led 2-0 at halftime. But the celebrations had to be delayed when Leipzig forward Yussuf Poulsen equalized in the fourth minute of second-half injury time.

However, Sunday’s result means that Bayer Leverkusen – last year’s champion – can no longer catch Bayern, despite having two games left to play. Leverkusen’s title win in 2023-24 is the only time in the last 13 seasons that a team other than Bayern has been German champion, according to CNN.

Chelsea revel in win over Liverpool but big challenges remain

Chelsea's players and fans celebrated raucously at the final whistle of their 3-1 victory over Premier League winners Liverpool on Sunday, but tougher tests lie ahead in the Londoners' push to return to the Champions League, Reuters reported.

The Stamford Bridge supporters roared along to "One Step Beyond" - the 1980s hit by ska band Madness - and manager Enzo Maresca raced on to the pitch while his coaching staff hugged and swapped high-fives on the touchline.

"Today probably the environment was the best environment of this season with the fans, this is what we need every game, fantastic. It is so good," Maresca told reporters.

"The reason why the staff, the coaching staff, the players at the end are so happy, even the fans, is because at this stage of the season you need to win games."

An early strike by Enzo Fernandez and an own goal by Jarell Quansah put the Blues 2-0 up. Although Virgil van Dijk narrowed the lead in the 85th minute with a header from a corner, Cole Palmer wrapped the win from the penalty spot with almost the last kick of the game, according to Reuters.
