Liverpool's Van Dijk scores late winner in 2-1 derby win over Everton

Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk scored with a header in the 10th minute of second-half stoppage time on Sunday to snatch a 2-1 Premier League win in a thrilling climax to the first Merseyside derby at Everton's Hill Dickinson Stadium, Reuters reported. 

Liverpool once again looked shaky and lost goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili to injury in the second half, but Van Dijk dug deep to deliver a victory that boosts their hopes of Champions League football despite a disappointing season.

The result leaves Liverpool fifth in the standings on 55 points, three behind Aston Villa with five games left to play. Everton are 10th on 47 points. 

 

Bayern Munich win Bundesliga title with victory against VfB Stuttgart

Treble-chasing Bayern Munich secured their 35th German league title on Sunday after beating VfB Stuttgart 4-2 to open up an unassailable lead with four games to play, Reuters reported. 

Sunday’s result sent Bayern 15 points clear of second-placed Borussia Dortmund.

The Bavarians were a goal down before scoring four times to quickly turn the game around.

“It’s been a fantastic season for us,” said Bundesliga leading scorer Harry Kane, who was also on target on Sunday. “To finish the league off in the way we have with the goals we scored... credit to the lads... we still have a lot to play for... but all the hard work, this makes it all worth it.”

Advantage Manchester City as Haaland seals crucial win over Arsenal

Manchester City striker Erling Haaland picked the perfect time to end his lean spell in the Premier League with the winning goal in a 2-1 victory over leaders Arsenal to give his side the edge in the title race on Sunday, Reuters reported. 

The Norwegian had ​not scored in the league since February but his emphatic finish after 65 minutes of a compelling Etihad Stadium showdown proved decisive as City moved three points behind Arsenal with a game in hand.

Victory over relegation-bound Burnley on Wednesday would move City top of the table with five games to play.

 

Liverpool's Salah bids farewell to Everton with another derby goal

The only consolation for Everton's fans after watching Mohamed Salah score yet another Merseyside derby goal on Sunday is that they will never have to watch the Egyptian in the red of their rivals again, Reuters reported. 

The 33-year-old winger, who has announced he will leave Anfield at the end of the season, said farewell to Liverpool's cross-city rivals in trademark fashion, bagging the opener for his side as they snatched a 2-1 Premier League win.

In doing so, Salah joined Liverpool's former midfielder Steven Gerrard as joint top scorer in Premier League Merseyside derbies with nine goals before captain Virgil van Dijk provided the perfect send-off with a late winner.
