Fake Bhutanese refugee scam: Police submit report to District Attorney’s Office

Police have submitted a report on the fake Bhutanese refugee scam to the District Attorney’s Office on Monday. The District Police Range, Kathmandu submitted the report to the District Attorney’s Office this afternoon. The police, who started the investigation from March 26, submitted the report to the District Attorney’s Office nearly two months later. So far, police have arrested 16 individuals including former deputy prime minister Top Bahadur Rayamajhi and former home minister Bal Krishna Khand. Police have concluded that at least 32 people were involved in the incident. Police have recommended the District Attorney’s Office to file cases under treason, fraud and organized crime against those involved in the fake Bhutanese refugee scam.

Elephant found dead in Jhapa

A female elephant has been found dead at the Adarsha Community Forest in Charchabari of Buddhashanti Rural Municipality-3, Jhapa. The local residents informed the police after they saw the elephant dead this morning. Tirtha Timsina, a local resident, said that Nepal Police, Armed Police Force and Division Forest Office officials have reached the site. No electric fence was fixed on the site where the elephant was found dead. The reason behind the death has not been ascertained yet. So far, two elephants died in Jhapa in this fiscal year while five persons died from the elephant attacks, according to the Division Forest Office.

Nepali migrant worker dies in Portugal

A Nepali migrant worker died in Portimao city of Portugal on Friday. The deceased has been identified as Ganeshman Sarangkoti (33) of Chandranagar in Khajura Rural Municipality-1, Banke. Sarangkoti, who went to bed after returning home from work on Thursday night, was found dead while asleep the next morning, said Rabin Adhikari, President of Non-Resident Nepali Association of Portugal. He arrived in Portugal after working in Dubai and Malta. His body has been kept in the hospital mortuary in Portimao. At the request of the family, necessary preparations are being made to send his body to Nepal, said NRNA Portugal Chair Adhikari. A fund-raising campaign has been started to collect funds to send the body to Nepal.

Double amputee Hari Bahadur Budha Magar scales Everest

Former British Gurkha soldier Hari Bahadur Budha Magar, who lost both legs above knee during a war in Afghanistan in 2010, scaled Mt Everest on Friday. The Public Relations Committee said that Magar stood atop the world’s highest peak yesterday. With this, he also set a world record by becoming the world's first double above-the-knee amputee to scale the 8,848.86-metre peak. He climbed Everest with the help of artificial legs. So far, two climbers with below-knee amputations have reached the summit of Everest. But Budha Magar is the first person who successfully scaled the world’s highest peak despite losing both legs above the knee. According to Public Relations Officer Him Bista, a team of magar stood atop the world’s tallest peak at 3 pm. Magar, who joined the British Army in 1999, was born in Mirul, Rolpa in 1979.
