PM directs Nepal Police to be prepared for response to potential natural disasters
Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has directed the Nepal Police to remain highly alert to potential consequences of natural disasters during rains, enhancing the effectiveness of disaster preparedness mechanisms.
In a meeting with Inspector General of Nepal Police, Basanta Bahadur Kunwar, today, the Prime Minister directed him to keep the security system fully prepared for undertaking rescue, relief and rehabilitation efforts in an effective way whenever it is needed.
During the meeting, the Prime Minister was concerned about losses of lives and property caused by recent incidents of flooding and landslides in various parts of the country.
It is noted that monsoon-triggered floods and landslides in the last 24 hours at different parts of the country has resulted in considerable losses with flooding and inundation affecting the Kathmandu Valley.
Normal life in various districts has been affected while landslides block roadways at multiple locations.
Hearing committee to seek complaints against proposed Chief Justice Shrestha
The Parliamentary Hearing Committee has decided to seek public complaints against the proposed Chief Justice Bishwombar Prasad Shrestha.
A meeting of the Parliamentary Hearing Committee held in Singha Durbar on Tuesday decided to publish a public notice to file complaints against Shrestha within 10 days, senior member of the committee Pashupati Shumsher JB Rana said.
He said that the complaints can be lodged against Shrestha within 10 days from the date of publication.
A meeting of the Constitutional Council held on August 3 had recommended the senior most Justice of the Supreme Court Shrestha for the new Chief Justice.
There is a provision that President Ram Chandra Paudel will appoint the Chief Justice after the Committee completes the parliamentary hearing process and endorses the name.
EU Ambassador Deprez pays farewell call on PM Dahal
Ambassador of the European Union Delegation to Nepal Nona Deprez paid a farewell call on Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal on Tuesday.
During the meeting held at the official residence of the Prime Minister at Baluwatar, they discussed the issues of bilateral interest and concern, according to the Prime Minister's Secretariat.
Similarly, discussion was held on the issue of relations between Nepal and EU, the Secretariat said.
Vice-President Yadav to leave for China on August 14
Vice-President Ram Sahay Prasad Yadav is leaving for China on August 14.
He is leaving for Kunming of Yunnan Province next week to take part in the ‘China-South Asia Expo’.
This is Yadav's first foreign visit after being elected as the Vice-President.
Preparations are also being made for Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal’s visit to China.
Prime Minister Dahal will leave for the northern neighbor in the third or fourth week of September.
Foreign Minister NP Saud said that preparations are being made for PM Dahal’s China visit.
This is the seventh edition of ‘China-South Asia Expo’.
The expo will be held from August 16-20.
During this stay in Kunming, Vice-President Yadav will hold sideline meetings with the leaders of Chinese Community Party, according to a source.
