Technical testing work began on Sunday at the 20-megawatt Langtang Khola Hydropower Project built by Multi Energy Development Pvt. Ltd. in Gosainkunda Rural Municipality-5, Syafrubesi.

Following the successful testing of the dam site of the project, the phased technical testing of the structures and equipment constructed under the project, including sand ponds, tunnels, penstocks, etc., will begin from Jan 11 and continue until the testing is completed, the project stated.

According to the acting project chief Narayan Subedi, during the technical testing, the gates and power house equipment at the dam site will be opened and closed from time to time, which may sometimes lead to a situation where a large amount of water may have to be released at once. Due to this, the flow of Langtang Khola in the lower coastal area below the dam site may change abnormally, so the project office has urged people to adopt high alertness in the areas around the river.

During this period, activities such as moving around the river area, swimming, fishing, bathing, washing clothes, grazing livestock, and mining river-based materials will be extremely risky, and the general public has been requested not to enter or engage in them.

In addition, the project has urged people to immediately inform the project office or the nearest police station if any unusual conditions or potential risks are observed during the testing period

Gold price has set a new record in the domestic market on Tuesday. 

According to the Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers’ Association, the price of precious yellow metal has increased by Rs 1, 800 per tola and is being traded at Rs 276, 500 per tola. It was traded at Rs 274, 700 per tola on Monday. 

Likewise, the silver is being traded at Rs 5, 340 per tola.

Nine Nepalis died in a gas cylinder explosion in Himachal Pradesh, India on Tuesday.

According to The News Himachal, nine Nepalis died in a fire that broke out after a gas cylinder exploded at Arki Bazaar in Solan district of Himachal Pradesh at around 3 am today. 

All the deceased were from Siddakumar Rural Municipality-2 in Salyan, Rural Municipality Chairman Bharat Giri told Annapurna Post, the sister publication of The Annapurna Express.

The closed session of the Nepali Congress Special General Convention has formed a five-member election committee.

The election committee has been formed under the coordination of advocate Sitaram KC, dissolving the previous election committee.

The committee will determine the election procedures/guidelines and conduct the election.

The committee has been formed to take ahead the process of selecting new leadership from the general convention.

General Secretaries Gagan Thapa and Bishwo Prakash Sharma presented political and organizational reports in Monday’s closed session. 

The closed session of the Special General Convention of the Nepali Congress (NC) is extended until today. 

The two-day-long Special General Convention, which commenced at Bhrikutimandap on Sunday, initiated by the party's General Secretary duo, Gagan Thapa and Bishwa Prakash Sharma, was expected to conclude on Monday.

The convention was extended until today as the discussions continued on the reports presented by general secretaries Thapa and Sharma. 

According to the Coordinator of Special General Convention Management Committee, Manoj Mani Acharya, the closed session will resume after a while. 

He also said that the registration of the Special General Convention representatives will continue even today.

After the policy-level decisions on the reports presented by General Secretary duo Thapa and Sharma, the election processes will also be advanced, it is said.   

Nine separate groups were formed in the closed session, including seven based on the seven provinces, and two based on the valley and the sister organisations, well-wisher and public liaison committees.

On Monday, General Secretary Thapa presented his political proposal on contemporary issues, outlining a vision to transform the party into a dynamic and advanced democratic force. 

Through the proposal, Thapa assured that the Special General Convention would guide the party towards becoming an organization with clear guidelines and effective management, progressing toward a promising future.

"We will transform the Nepali Congress into a party with the revolutionary spirit of 2006 BS, the progressive and inclusive vision of 2015 BS, the popular mandate of 2048 BS, and the widely accepted leadership of 2062-63 BS," Thapa announced.

The proposal includes a 17-point special resolution aimed at preparing the party for an integrated campaign to build a prosperous nation with renewed energy, enthusiasm, unity and transformation. 

It pledges to curb corruption and ensure financial discipline and good governance through the formulation and enforcement of effective laws, enhancement of institutional and agency efficiency, simplification and strengthening of procedures, and the establishment of a transparent, efficient and accountable administrative system.

A total of 193,381 voters were registered in Baglung for the forthcoming March 5 House of Representatives (HoR) elections. 

According to the District Election Office, the number of women voters is 98,574 and the number of men voters is 94,806.

Chief of the District Election Office, Yagya Prasad Rijal, said that the updated voter's namelist has the largest portion of voters from the age group of 16 to 28. 

Rijal added that the number of voters in the district increased by 5,253 for this poll compared to the last election. 

The number of youth is impressive among the new voters, it is said. 

According to Rijal, a total of 100 voters of other districts registered their names from the District Election Office, Baglung.
