Wreckage of plane with 22 on board found in Nepal mountains

The wreckage of a plane carrying 22 people that disappeared in Nepal’s mountains was found Monday scattered on a mountainside, the army said. There was no word on survivors, Associated Press reported.

The Tara Air turboprop Twin Otter was on a 20-minute flight Sunday when it the lost contact with the airport tower while flying in an area of deep river gorges and mountaintops just before it was scheduled to land.

The army said the plane crashed in Sanosware in Mustang district close to the mountain town of Jomsom where it was heading after taking off from from the resort town of Pokhara, 200 kilometers (125 miles) west of Kathmandu.

An aerial photo the army posted on Twitter of the crash site showed parts of the aircraft scattered around the mountainside, according to the Associated Press.

No other details were given.

The search for the plane had been suspended due to bad weather and darkness Sunday night but resumed Monday.

According to tracking data from flightradar24.com, the 43-year-old aircraft took off from Pokhara at 9:55 a.m. (04:10 GMT) and transmitted its last signal at 10:07 a.m. (04:22 GMT) at an altitude of 12,825 feet (3,900 meters).

Government allocates Rs 55 billion to Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development

The government has allocated Rs 55 billion to the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development.

Finance Minister Janardan Sharma has given Rs 15 billion more to agriculture than the ceiling set by the National Planning Commission.

The Commission had set a ceiling of Rs 40 billion in agriculture.

The government had allocated Rs 36 billion in the current fiscal year.

Minister Sharma allocated Rs 55 billion to the Agriculture Ministry to become self-reliant in agriculture this year.

Government endorses budget for next fiscal year

The government on Sunday endorsed the budget for the next fiscal year 2022/ 23.

Finance Minister Janardan Sharma’s Secretariat said that a Cabinet meeting held this afternoon endorsed the budget to be presented in the Parliament.

Minister Sharma is presenting a budget of around Rs 17 trillion in the Parliament at 4 pm today.

The budget mentions issues such as increasing the salaries of the employees and social security allowances.

 

NA chopper deployed to search for missing Tara Air aircraft lands in Thasang of Mustang

A Nepal Army helicopter deployed to search for the missing Tara Air's Twin Otter aircraft landed in Thasang of Mustang.

It will take around six hours to reach the area where an unusual sound was heard from Thasang.

Though the plane contacted the tower of the Civil Aviation Office in Jomsom at 10: 12 am, it went out of contact since then.

The aircraft had taken off for Jomsom from Pokhara at 9: 55 am.

There were 22 persons including two German nationals, four Indian and 13 Nepali nationals apart from crew members on board the aircraft.

Pilot Prabhakar Ghimire, co-pilot Utsav Pokharel and airhostess Kishmi Thapa were in the plane.

According to the Nepal Civil Aviation Authority, the search operation has been affected due to bad weather.

The District Administration Office, Mustang said that Nepal Army, Armed Police Force and Nepal Police personnel and locals have been deployed to search for the missing plane.
