CPN (MC) withdraws support extended to Lumbini Province government
The CPN (Maoist Center) withdrew support extended to the CPN-UML-led government in the Lumbini Province on Sunday. The three ministers of the Maoist Center have submitted a resignation to Chief Minister Leela Giri this afternoon. Jokh Bahadur Mahara, Indrajit Chaudhary and Krishna KC were appointed as the ministers in the Giri-led government from the Maoist Center. UML Parliamentary Party leader Giri was appointed as the Chief Minister on January 11. Giri, who sought a vote of confidence on January 19, was given the vote of confidence by 58 lawmakers. With the Maoist Center withdrawing the support, the Giri-led government has fallen into minority. He will have to seek a vote of confidence within a month. The Lumbini Province has 87 lawmakers. Giri needs 44 votes for the majority. There are 27 lawmakers of the Nepali Congress, 29 of the CPN-UML, 10 of the CPN (Maoist Center), four of Rastriya Prajatantra Party, one the CPN (Unified Socialist), three of the Janamat Party and four of the Nagarik Unmukti Party in the Lumbini Province.
Bagmati Province CM Jamarkattel secures vote of confidence
Bagmati Province Chief Minister Shalikram Jamarkattel won the vote of confidence on Friday. Out of 91 lawmakers presented in the Province Assembly, 67 cast votes in favor of Chief Minister Jamarkattel. A total of 17 lawmakers of the CPN-UML and the Nepal Workers and Peasants Party voted against Jamarkattel. Similarly, the Rastriya Prajatantra Party stayed neutral. Lawmakers of Nepali Congress, CPN (Maoist Center), CPN (Unified Socialist) and Hamro Party cast votes in favor of Jamarkattel. The Bagmati Province has a total of 110 lawmakers.
UML quits government, NC decides to give vote of confidence to CM Jamarkattel
Nepali Congress has decided to give a vote of confidence to Bagmati Province Chief Minister Shalikram Jamarkattel. Bagmati Province Congress Parliamentary Party leader Bahadur Singh Lama said that the Congress has decided to give a vote of confidence to Chief Minister Jamarkattel. Similarly, the CPN-UML has withdrawn support extended to the Bagmati Province government. It has also decided to leave the government. Addressing the Province Assembly, UML Parliamentary Party leader Jagannath Thapaliya said that his party has decided to leave the government. Chief Minister Jamarkattel is seeking a vote of confidence for the second time as per Article 188 (2) of the Constitution.
PM Dahal directs concerned authorities to make market monitoring effective
Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has directed the Inland Revenue Office, Department of Revenue Investigation and Department of Commerce, Supplies and Consumer Protection to make market monitoring effective. During a discussion held at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers at Singha Durbar, today, Prime Minister Dahal said there would be no effective result until market monitoring is carried out jointly. He opined, "All the policy-level arrangements related to revenue evasion control should be effectively implemented. The Inland Revenue Office, Department of Revenue Investigation and Department of Commerce should jointly carry out market monitoring in a strong and effective manner." The PM also asked the Department of Revenue Investigation, security bodies and local administration to mobilize a joint team to control illegal imports. "Make preparation for policy-level review where there should be at least 10 percent difference in custom rate of raw materials and readymade goods,” he mentioned. The Prime Minister directed for creating an environment for bringing effectiveness in the quality of goods by preparing the national standard for import. He made it clear that now there should not be a situation in which discussions are held and policies are formulated but not implemented. PM Dahal issued instructions for making arrangements so that the monitoring is carried out not only at the border but it is also done in the domestic market as well. Finance Secretary Toyam Raya, Revenue secretary Ram Prasad Ghimire, Secretary at the Office of the Prime Minister, Ganesh Prasad Pandey, Director General of the Department of Inland Revenue Dirgha Raj Mainali, Revenue Investigation Department Director General Narayan Sapkota, Department of Customs Director General Chakra Budha, office-bearers at the Prime Minister's Secretariat and businessmen participated in the discussions. Representatives of the business community on the occasion urged the government to pay attention to formulating the policies and programs and implementing them so as to encourage domestic production.
