SC issues short-term interim order in Dhaka Kumar Shrestha’s case

The Supreme Court has issued a short-term interim order in the case of Dhaka Kumar Shrestha, former lawmaker of the Rastriya Swatantra Party. A single bench of Justice Til Prasad Shrestha issued the short-term interim order in the case today. The court has asked for the reason to suspend Shrestha. Shrestha had filed a writ at the apex court demanding that he be reinstated as a lawmaker. Speaker Devraj Ghimire had already read out a notice about Shrestha’s removal from the post of lawmaker. Shrestha had filed the writ making the Rastriya Swatantra Party a defendant. The Rastriya Swatantra Party had expelled Shrestha from the party and Parliament after an audio of him asking Rs 20 million from Durga Prasain was leaked on April 9.  

Chinese envoy calls on Home Minister Shrestha

Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Chan Song called on Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Narayan Kaji Shrestha on Monday. During the meeting held at the Home Ministry this morning, the duo discussed bilateral ties, exchange of high-level visits, Chinese projects and activities of Tibetan refugees among other issues, a source at the Home Ministry said. The Chinese ambassador also expressed his concern over the current political situation of the country.  

Lawmaker Singh takes off shirt in Parliament

Speaker Devraj Ghimire warned lawmaker Amresh Kumar Singh of taking action as per the parliamentary rules. The speaker directed Singh to be decent after he stripped off his shirt during a meeting of the Parliament on Monday morning. Speaker Ghimire asked Singh to think about the parliamentary dignity after he took off his shirt. Singh and Nepal Workers’ and Peasants Party lawmaker Prem Suwal demanded time after Speaker Ghimire said that special time and emergency time are not promoted in the meeting. Singh took off his shirt in protest after the Speaker refused to give him time to speak.  

Four local governments of Rolpa recruit own police

Four local governments in Rolpa district have recruited their own police. Rolpa municipality of the district along with Sunilsmriti, Runtigadhi and Madi Rural Municipality have managed their own police mechanism. Rolpa municipality has recruited 10 city police personnel, including three women. The city police have a head constable and nine constables. The Rolpa Municipality which is in the district capital has been mobilizing city police in traffic management, market monitoring and security of structures in tourism sites. Runtigadhi is the first local government of the district to recruit its own police. The local government recruited nine city police, including a woman. It has recruited police personnel by creating a position of Chief and eight city police personnel. Chairperson of Runtigadhi Rural Municipality Janak Pun said that the city police have been engaged in security and development activities. "The city police are being mobilized to keep the law and order situation in the rural municipality", he added. Madi has also recruited its own police personnel by naming it 'village police'. It has recruited seven village police, including two females. The village police have one Assistant Sub Inspector and six police personnel. Likewise, Sunilsmriti has also recruited five city police. According to Sunilsmriti Rural Municipality Chair Maniram Budhathoki, city police personnel have been mobilized for traffic management, market monitoring and maintaining law and order. The local level had conducted a month-long training for the newly-recruited police personnel on salutation, parade, mob control, rescue, disaster management and rescue and weapon operation. The local governments have put forth a plan to mobilize the city/village police to assist in the collection of revenue and judiciary committee and guiding tourists and securing office structures. Rolpa has 10 local level government units, including a municipality.
