UK welcomes military leaders to collaborate on Ukraine plans.
Senior military officers from the "coalition of the willing" are meeting in private in the UK on Thursday to discuss plans for a potential peacekeeping mission for Ukraine. It is believed that almost 20 nations are participating, BBC reported.
Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer is anticipated to attend on Thursday afternoon after first visiting Barrow, where he will lay the keel for one of Britain's new generation of nuclear submarines.
Plans for a Western-led peacekeeping force in Ukraine are thought to be entering the operational phase. Senior military leaders from the "coalition of the willing," led by Britain and France, are expected to debate how this might operate in practice when they meet at the UK's Permanent Joint Headquarters in Northwood.
According to Armed Forces Minister Luke Pollard, they want the coalition to be a "credible force" that would allow Ukraine to "enjoy a lasting peace" and "reconstitute and rearm".
"If Putin wins the Ukrainian conflict, he will not stop. If he subjugates the entire Ukraine, as he has for many years, he would just rearm and look for new ways to extend his power and dominance," he told BBC Breakfast.
"That is not in our interest as a country, certainly not in the interest of our European friends."
Pollard stated that preserving peace in Ukraine may require "some boots on the ground," but the force will also include "a strong component of air and maritime forces."
However, there are still significant difficulties, according to BBC.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has stated that Moscow will not tolerate the presence of any NATO troops in Ukraine, regardless of their role.
The United States is also proving unwilling to offer the air cover that potential member’s claim they require.
Sir Keir is set to attend a portion of the meeting after first visiting Barrow to lay the keel for HMS Dreadnought, one of the next generation of nuclear-armed submarines. Sir Keir will visit Barrow and describe it as a "blueprint" for how defense investment can benefit a community.
He is expected to declare that the King has decided to bestow the title of "Royal" to Barrow in recognition of its commitment to national security, BBC added.
Earlier, he met with the crew of HMS Vanguard, one of Britain's nuclear submarines, as it returned to Scotland after patrolling the waters of the north Atlantic.
The prime minister told reporters that the Kremlin respected the United Kingdom's nuclear arsenal because "we have our own independent deterrent and are committed to NATO."
Demands of Tharu, Muslims will be addressed: PM Oli
Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has said that demands of Tharu and Muslims would be addressed once the Federal Civil Service Act is promulgated.
At Q&A session in today's meeting of the House of Representatives, lawmaker Bina Kumari Thanait questioned about non arrangement of reservation for Tharu community as a separate community and delay in promulgation of Civil Service Act.
Responding to queries of lawmaker Thanait, PM Oli mentioned, "Clause-wise discussion is taking place on the bill designed to manage formation, operation and condition of service of Federal Civil Service, 2080 in the State Affairs Committee. Opportunity of reservation has been provided to Tharu Community even in Civil Service Act keeping them in the indigenous community."
He informed the House that the principle of inclusion has been adopted in the course of appointing in various public posts after formation of the incumbent government.
How to decode a head-spinning few days of Ukraine war diplomacy
President Donald Trump's phone discussions with President Vladimir Putin and President Volodymyr Zelensky this week are the most aggressive diplomatic efforts to end the crisis in Ukraine since Russia invaded three years ago, CNN reported.
Early indications are bleak, as Putin has declined to sign on to Trump's idea of a 30-day truce. But Trump portrays the start of any debate as a win. And each leader is attempting to use diplomacy to their advantage while also playing the public relations game, not to mention avoiding blame if everything fails.
The White House is manufacturing a fantasy of major progress both to keep the hopes of a peace process developing and to promote the increasingly flimsy assumption that Trump is a great dealmaker.
Uniquely capable of establishing peace.Putin categorically denied Trump's request for a ceasefire. Simply put, he is not ready to stop the war yet, as evidenced by a new set of criteria that Ukraine would never agree to if it wishes to exist as a sovereign state. However, the Kremlin does not want to alienate Trump, so it offered him a tempting peek of a high-power relationship with Putin to entice him, CNN revealed.
Zelensky is a quick learner. He can't afford a recurrence of the terrible Oval Office fiasco, so he simply agrees to practically everything Trump requests. Ironically, Zelensky's meltdown-inducing argument, that Putin cannot be trusted to make or keep cease-fire agreements, has now been proven correct.
Ukraine and Russia are vying for the president's attention and blaming each other for obstructing peace. After a chaotic night, one side accused the other of violating the partial deal mediated by the US president to avoid damaging energy infrastructure. Their dissatisfaction with even this little detail contradicts Trump's confident assurances that a peace deal is within grasp.
Works are being carried to operate Gautam Buddha International Airport at full capacity, says PM Oli
Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has said that the government has been implementing various programs through hospitals and health institutions under the jurisdiction of the federal, provincial and local governments for improving the child and maternal health status.
Replying to the queries of lawmakers in the House of Representatives today, he informed the House that a feasibility study is being conducted in collaboration of the Government of Nepal, the Thai International Cooperation Agency and UNFPA Nepal for the construction of a well-appointed ‘birthing hospital' in Lumbini province.
"The construction works are being carried out as per the Lumbini Master Plan, which was approved in 1978 keeping in view the immense religious and tourism potential of the Lumbini region.
The government has been formulating and implementing an action plan for the sustainable operation of Gautam Buddha International Airport (GBIA) in consultation with the concerned agencies. Concessions and incentive programs such as discount on passenger service fee, ground handling, and on landing, parking and navigation fees have been brought into operation,” the PM said in reply to a question.
The Prime Minister informed that work is underway to operate the airport at full capacity in future.
"Currently, Al Jazeera, Fly Dubai, Air Asia and Nepal Airlines have been operating international flights from GBIA. Labor and Employment Office, Butwal has started issuing labor permits. Arrangements have been made to provide banking facilities including immigration, currency exchange at the airport itself."
Earlier, PM Oli had said that the minimum support price (MSP) for paddy, wheat and sugarcane crops has been fixed to encourage agricultural production.
He said homework was underway to move forward the agriculture modernization project with further modifications to increase agricultural production and move towards self-reliance.
PM Oli further said that these efforts of the government to control consumption-oriented imports and address the low export capacity and high trade deficit have resulted in an increase in total exports and improvement in export-import ratio during this period.
He said a team of Japanese experts with the technical support of the Japanese government was carrying out a study to prevent huge loss of lives and property every year due to floods in the Keshaliya, Budhikhola, Singiya and Lohandra rivers in Morang and Sunsari districts.
According to the Prime Minister, the concerned ministries are coordinating and doing homework with the province governments and local levels to select plans and programs based on the need and demand in all the constituencies and include them in the annual budget and programs for the next fiscal year.
