Umesh Shrestha appointed as NC treasurer
Businessman Umesh Shrestha has been appointed as the treasurer of the Nepali Congress.
President Sher Bahadur Deuba appointed Shrestha as the treasurer of the party in accordance with Article 21 (4) of the statute of the Congress, Chief Secretary Krishna Prasad Paudel informed. He is also a former minister.
Shrestha had become a candidate from Chitwan-2 in the 2022 elections. But was defeated to Rastriya Swantantra Party President Rabi Lamichhane.
Speaker Ghimire meets with his Cambodian counterpart
Speaker at the House of Representatives (HoR) Devraj Ghimire, who is on a five-day visit to Cambodia, had a courtesy meeting with the President of the Cambodian lower house, the National Assembly, on Saturday evening, according to Speaker Ghimire's secretariat.
In the meeting with the chairperson of the National Assembly of Cambodia, Samdech Rathsaphea Thika Thipadei Khuon Sudary, matters of bilateral interests, progress of Nepal's peace process, parliamentary exchange and other issues were discussed.
The Speaker thanked his Cambodian counterpart for organizing and inviting him to the 11th Plenary Session of the International Parliament for Tolerance and Peace.
Speaker Ghimire said in the meeting that an inclusive and progressive structure has been built along with the peace process in Nepal. "The Comprehensive Peace Agreement in Nepal in 2006 has made a significant contribution to bringing stability and creating an inclusive and progressive structure with federalism from the Constituent Assembly," said the speaker.
The Cambodian Parliament has given a 'guard of honor' to the speaker for the success achieved in Nepal's peace process and the recent passing of the transitional justice law by the parliament. The Speaker expressed his happiness that Cambodia has developed socio-economically under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Samdech Hun Manet. He said, "The Government of Nepal, the Parliament of Nepal and the Nepali people appreciate the economic prosperity achieved by the Kingdom of Cambodia in the past decade."
Speaker Ghimire expressed his belief that the recently concluded air service agreement between the governments of Nepal and Cambodia will help to connect the people of the two countries. Speaker Ghimire had an informal meeting with Prime Minister Hun Manet this morning.
The Speaker, who reached Cambodia's capital Phnom Penh leading a five-member delegation, is scheduled to address the 11th Plenary Session of the International Parliament for Tolerance and Peace today.
The Speaker will return home on Tuesday, November 26.
PM Oli urges industrialists to invest in homeland
Prime Minister and CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli has urged industrialists to invest as an investment friendly environment is created within the country.
Addressing the awareness assembly organized by CPN-UML Kathmandu Valley's three district committees today at Durbar Marg, Prime Minister Oli urged the investors to invest with confidence as the government is on a mission to create a 'Prosperous Nepal and Happy Nepali' by maintaining peace and security in Nepal.
"Nepal's economy was in a bad state. The economy is improving due to the policies and plans adopted by the current UML-Congress led government," said Prime Minister Oli.
Prime Minister Oli urged Nepal's industrialists and multinational companies to invest in the country. "You should invest, the government will arrange security and good governance," he said.
On another note, Prime Minister Oli said even though there are many rumors against them there was no logic to follow such baseless rumors.
"There have been things surfaced like deceiving the cooperative and blaming others, using shameful remarks, and swearing. Any kind of fraud is not acceptable. The Nepali people will continue to fulfill the vision of 'Prosperous Nepal and Happy Nepali' by maintaining the history and pride of their culture," Prime Minister Oli said. He challenged those who point fingers at him to come in face-to- face discussions.
Mentioning that those who do not have to pay the bank loans will destroy the country's economy, he claimed that the NEA should collect the arrears from the defaulting industries as per the bill but it should not stop power supply to them.
Speaker Ghimire calls on President Paudel
Speaker Devraj Ghimire called on President Ram Chandra Paudel at the Rashtrapati Bhawan, Sheetal Niwas today.
In the meeting, Speaker Ghimire briefed the President about his visit to Cambodia, the Secretariat of the President said.
Speaker Ghimire is going to Cambodia today in connection with attending the 11th Plenary Session of the International Parliament for Tolerance and Peace (IPTP) to be held in Cambodia's capital Phnom Penh from November 23 to 26.
