UML 11th National Congress: Election schedule made public
The CPN-UML has announced the election schedule to elect the new leadership from the party's 11th National Congress.
The Chairman of UML Central Election Commission, Dr Bijaya Subba, made public the election schedule this evening.
As per the schedule, the namelist of voters will be made public at 7 this evening, while the complaints over the voters' namelist could be filed until 9 am on Monday.
The final namelist will be published at 10:15 am on Monday and the candidates will be given the nomination form from 9 am to 12 in the afternoon on Monday.
The candidates can register their forms from 10:30 am to 1:30 pm and the preliminary namelist of the candidates will be released at 2:30 pm.
Dr Subba said that complaints on the candidates could be filed from 2:30 pm to 3:30 pm on Monday.
Likewise, the final namelist of the candidates will be made public at 6 pm on Monday.
The voting will be held from 11 am to 5 pm on December 16.
The inaugural session of the UML's 11th National Congress was held in Bhaktapur on Saturday.
The closed-session of the party's National Congress is going on in Bhrikutimandap from this afternoon.
President asks government to solely focus on elections
President Ram Chandra Paudel has suggested that the government should entirely focus on holding the forthcoming House of Representatives (HoR) elections scheduled for March 5.
Receiving the annual report of the National Security Council of the fiscal year 2081/82 BS at the Office of the President on Sunday, the President asked the government to discharge its responsibility without impacting the upcoming polls, President's Press Advisor Kiran Pokharel said.
On the occasion, the President directed the security bodies including the Nepal Army to pay much attention to security issues being more prompt than before.
Likewise, President Paudel expressed confidence that the National Security Council will work further effectively in coming days by analyzing the possible new security threats.
Prime Minister and Chair of National Security Council Sushila Karki submitted the report to the President, it has been said.
UML scraps senior vice chair post
The CPN-UML has decided to change the structure of office bearers.
The Central Committee meeting held today prior to the start of the closed session of the 11th General Assembly has decided to remove the post of senior vice chairperson.
Standing Committee member Sher Bahadur Tamang informed that the meeting has decided to float a statute amendment proposal to form a 351-member committee including 19 office bearers by removing the post of senior vice chairperson and adding the post of secretary.
Minister Ghising directs contractor company to expedite construction of Muglin-Pokhara road
Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport Kulman Ghising directed the contractor company to expedite the completion of the under-construction Muglin-Pokhara road.
While inspecting the western section of the Prithvi Highway from Jamune to Pokhara today, he directed the construction company to complete the work on time and facilitate smooth traffic.
On the occasion, he acquired information about the progress made so far from Jamune to Pokhara under the western section and expressed his commitment to assist in resolving issues.
A physical progress of 59.76 percent and financial progress of 47.80 percent has been made so far in terms of road expansion in the western section.
According to Krishna Bahadur Kunwar, the Head of the project, laying the first layer of asphalt has been completed in one direction on 37.4 km out of the 48.88 kilometre stretch.
He informed the Minister that a four-lane asphalt road was completed on 29.61 km and a two-lane asphalt road was completed on 7.79 km.
Out of 12 bridges in the section, 11 have been constructed while a bridge is under construction over the Seti River.
Project Head Kunwar said that in the last fiscal year, out of the target to upgrade 25 km of road in the western section to four lanes, 23.08 km was asphalted.
The project office stated that out of the target to construct 66 culverts, 65 have been completed, and out of the target to construct 51.5 km of drainage, 45.2 km has been completed.
An agreement was signed with the construction company on May 17, 2021.
The deadline for completion of the project with a cost of Rs 7.40 billion is on December 31.
