Rain with thunderstorm likely today

Some parts of the country are likely to receive rain with thunderstorms today.

According to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, light to moderate rain with thunderstorms are predicted in some mountainous areas.

There is a possibility of heavy rainfall in some areas of Bagmati and Karnali provinces. Presently, the low pressure line of the monsoon is moving towards the south from the average line.

Lalitpur metropolis to provide Rs 10, 000 allowance to senior citizens

The Lalitpur Metropolitan City is providing Rs 10, 000 allowance to senior citizens. The metropolis is providing the allowance to the elders so that they would be able to celebrate the festivals with gaiety.

The allowance would be given to the senior citizens once a year during the Bada Dashain festival, Mayor Chiri Babu Maharjan said.

"The senior citizens who are the living history of society will be happy after getting this money. We are taking this initiative so that the elders will not have to depend on their children for festival expenses," he added.

The Lalitpur Metropolitan City used to provide festival allowance of Rs 5, 000 to the senior citizens of the designated age until last year. It has increased Rs 5, 000 to the allowance from this year.

It is said there are around 7,000 senior citizens in the metropolis eligible for this allowance.

Heavy rainfall forecast in four provinces, people urged to remain alert

The country is likely to see a partial to general cloudy sky with light to heavy rains and thundershowers in 24 hours.

Some parts in the hilly region are likely to receive light to moderate rains. Heavy rains are predicted in one or two parts in Province 1, Bagmati, Gandaki and Sudurpaschim Provinces, according to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology. People at possible risks in the areas have been asked to stay alert.

The Kathmandu Valley has recorded minimum 20.5 degree and maximum 31.5-degree temperature, according to the Meteorological Forecasting Division.

 

Dahal meets Japan's LDP senior leader Nikai

CPN (Maoist Centre) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal, who is currently in Japan, held a meeting with Japan's Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) senior leader Toshihiro Nikai on Tuesday. The LDP is the ruling party of Japan.

Nikai is the LDP's former general secretary, former economy, trade and industry minister and is a member in the House of Representatives. He is also the President of Nepal-Japan Parliamentary Committee. He was accompanied by other senior leaders in Japan during the meeting with the former Prime Minister of Nepal.

The meeting focused on various aspects of Nepal-Japan relations, according to Dahal's secretariat.

The two leaders discussed the ways for further consolidating the bilateral relations between the two neighbors. Besides, exchange of high-level visits between the two countries and the establishment of sisterly relations between cities in both countries were also discussed in the meeting.    

On the occasion, leader Dahal urged the Government of Japan to increase the scale of its assistance to Nepal's agriculture, tourism, hydropower and physical infrastructure development sectors.

 

NIC takes action against chiefs of 33 offices for defying RTI Act

The National Information Commission (NIC) has punished chiefs of 33 offices for denying imparting information to the seekers.

They faced music for violating the Right to Information (RTI) guaranteed by the Constitution.

According to the Commission which was established in 2065 BS has for far exercised its rights given by the Clause 32 of RTI ACT, 2065 BS against such a number of office chiefs.

According to information officer Ratna Prasad Mainali, among those facing action for failure to implement the RTI, mostly are from the Tribhuvan University subordinate bodies. They include seven controllers of examination, four TU Service Commission employees, one TU rector, four chiefs of local levels, six school principals and campus chiefs and 11 others.

 

Humla records first coronavirus case in eight months

Humla, the district enjoying zero infection of coronavirus for nearly eight months, recorded a case of coronavirus infection on Monday.

The District Hospital informed that a person was tested positive for coronavirus.

The 50-year-old man from Simkot Rural Municipality-5 was tested positive for the virus as he showed the symptoms during the treatment, according to Bhakti Phadera from the hospital.

Judicial Council, NWC and Auditor General's reports presented in NA

Three reports of different government bodies have been presented in the meeting of the National Assembly on Monday.

Minister for Agriculture and Livestock Development Mrigendra Kumar Singh presented those reports on the behalf of Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba.

The reports were the annual report of Judicial Council and Judicial Service Commission for fiscal year 2020/21. Similarly, the 14th annual report of the National Women Commission of the same fiscal year was presented along with the 59th annual report of the Auditor General of the ongoing fiscal year 2022.

Meanwhile, the proposal seeking clause-wise deliberation on the Prison Bill-2076 BS in the Legislation Committee has been approved unanimously.

Minister for Home Affairs Bal Krishna Khand presented the proposal in the meeting with the message from the House of Representatives.

During the meeting, the NA Chairperson read out the letter from the Office of the President on the authentication of the Bill. The Madan Bhandari Science and Technology University Bill-2076 BS was authenticated by the Head of the State on August 3.

The next meeting of NA has been scheduled for 1 pm on Wednesday.

Vice President Pun congratulates his Indian counterpart

Vice President Nanda Bahadur Pun has congratulated the newly-elected Vice President of India Jagdeep Dhankhar and wished him a successful term in office. 

In a message of best wishes sent to the Indian Vice President today, Vice President Pun has expressed the confidence that the multi-faceted relations between Nepal and India would be further strengthened and expanded during Vice President Dhankhar's tenure, according to Manoj Ghartimagar, the Vice President Pun's press coordinator.

Dhankhar is the 14th Vice President of India. He secured 528 votes out of the 710 valid votes in the 16th Vice-Presidential election held in the Indian Parliament on Saturday.
