President Bhandari inquires about Giri's health

President Bidya Devi Bhandari has expressed concern over the health condition of Nepali Congress leader and parliamentarian Pradeep Giri who is undergoing treatment at Medicity Hospital.

Information and Communication expert Tika Dhakal, on the behalf of President Bhandari, reached the Lalitpur-based Hospital today and wished Giri a speedy recovery.

Dhakal also said that the President had expressed her concern while Giri was in India for cancer treatment.

Furthermore, he said that President Bhandari sent him to take stock of Giri's health condition as he was admitted to hospital upon his return from India due to health issues.

 

Bhattarai, Yadav picked as Chairpersons of Nepal Samajbadi Party

Baburam Bhattarai and Mahindra Raya Yadav have been picked as the Chairpersons of the newly-formed Nepal Samajbadi Party.

The party was formed after Dr Bhattarai led team quit the Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP), Nepal, some weeks ago.

The first meeting of the party held in Lalitpur on Saturday formed 189-member central committee, selecting Dr Bhattarai and Yadav as the chairpersons.

Ganga Narayan Shrestha is named as the party’s co-chair while Hisila Yami, Durga Sob and Bhakta Bahadur Shah are the vice-chairs.

Ramesh Prasad Yadav is picked as the party’s general secretary.

Heavy rainfall likely in three provinces

There is a possibility of heavy rainfall in three provinces across the country today.

According to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, Sudur Paschim, Lumbini and Karnali provinces could see heavy rainfall.

Likewise, light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning is likely at few places in the hilly areas and few places in the rest of the country in the next 24 hours.

During the night, there is a chance of light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning at few places in Lumbini province and with partial to normal showers in few places in the rest of the country.

According to the Weather Forecasting Division, the minimum temperature of Kathmandu Valley today is 20.3 degrees and the maximum temperature is 30.5 degrees Celsius. Similarly, the minimum temperature of Jumla today is 16.9 degrees and the maximum temperature of Dipayal is 35.2 degrees Celsius.

Party registration for upcoming elections from today

The Election Commission has issued a notice calling upon political parties wishing to contest the elections to the House of Representatives and the Provincial Assembly to be held on November 20 for registration.

The Commission has notified the political parties registered with the Commission until August 4, 2022 to register themselves for the purpose of the elections. The deadline for the party registration is until August 16.

When submitting an application for party registration, details about the party, the number of officers and members of the party's central executive committee, province and district committees, and the date the party submitted its annual audit report to the commission must be disclosed.

Similarly, the date of the last election of the party's central level and province level executive committee, whether the political party's organizational form is at the central level or province level or not, should be disclosed.

According to the Political Party Act, when two or more parties apply for party registration for the purpose of taking a single election symbol and participating in the election, the application should be made in accordance with the political party regulations, the Commission has said today.

The application should include a copy of the decision of the Central Committee to register the party for the election purposes, the party's statute, regulations and manifesto, the annual audit report of the financial year 2021/22, and other necessary documents, and it has to be submitted with signature of the major office-bearers of the party.

 

Tuberculosis to be eradicated from Nepal by 2050

A campaign has been put in place to eradicate tuberculosis from Nepal by 2050.

Minister for Health and Population Bhawani Prasad Khapung inaugurated a workshop organized by the National Tuberculosis Control Center here today to review and expand the Tuberculosis-Free Nepal campaign.

Minister Khapung called for cooperation from NGOs, INGOs and international stakeholders to eradicate tuberculosis from Nepal within the stipulated time.

The campaign is being launched in 25 local levels at present and would be expanded to all 753 local levels within four years, the Minister said.

Similarly, Shyam Sundar Yadav, secretary at the Ministry of Health and Population, viewed that if local level would track down tuberculosis patients at every home and relay information to the Centre, the patients would avail medical intervention on time.

Janakpur Sub-Metropolitan City Mayor Manoj Kumar Shah opined that many people would be benefited if the campaign was taken forward in coordination and collaboration with the people's representatives.

Last year around 17,000 people died of tuberculosis in Nepal on the part of concerned authorities' managerial weakness, shared tuberculosis experts Dr Dirgha Singh Bom, Dr Rajendra Panta and Dr Maheshwor Shrestha. They pressed for an effective strategy to eliminate tuberculosis from the country.

Centre's executive director Sanjay Thakur shed light on the campaign in the workshop attended by representatives from various provinces of the country.

Light to moderate rain likely today

Rains are likely to take place across the country today while thunder and lightning could take place in some places, according to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology.

The Department said there is a chance of light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning in many parts of the country due to an active monsoon system.

Likewise, heavy rain is likely to occur in one or two places of the Sudurpaschim Province.

However, the Department said there will be slight rainfall in coming two to three days due to weak monsoon system as the low pressure line of the monsoon has moved to south from its normal position.

At present, there is partial to moderate rain in few places of Ganaki and Karnali provinces while the rainfall is light to moderate in Province No. 1 and Sudurpaschim.

During the night, it will be normal to partly cloudy in some parts of the country and partial to normal rain in Province No. 1 and Madhes Province.

Furthermore, there will be light to partial rain with thunder and lightning in few places across the country and heavy rain in one or two places of Bagmati and Gandaki provinces on Saturday.

Youths with Japanese language skills to be sent for employment in Japan

A meeting of the Nepal-Japan joint working committee concluded today with the decision that Nepali youths vying for jobs in Japan after passing language and skill tests would be facilitated to depart at the earliest.

The second meeting of the joint working committee discussed thoroughly how Nepal government could prepare work procedure for sending the youths for employment in Japan in line with specified skill workers system adopted by Japan, according to the Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security.

Job aspirants will be informed about the legitimate scheme of SKW to be followed by them for employment in Japan, and for this, amendment of the laws of Japan and Nepal will be made.

The third meeting of the joint working committee will be held in Japan. The first meeting was held virtually in November 2020.

As per the agreement of the first meeting, 850 Nepalis got jobs in Japan in the sectors of care giving, agriculture, construction and restaurant.

The visiting Japanese delegation held a meeting with Labour Minister Sher Bahadur Kunwar. On the occasion, Minister Kunwar said more than 5,000 Nepalis had been aspiring for job in Japan.

In response, leader of the Japanese delegation Chosumo Nakagawa said Japan was positive about welcoming Nepali workers.

28 cases of dengue reported in 15 days in Makawanpur

A total of 28 cases of dengue were reported in Makawanpur district in the past 15 days.

According to the District Health Office (DHO), Makawanpur, cases of the mosquito-borne viral infection have been on the rise in the district lately. So was Coronavirus infection.
Of the 10 local levels in the district, Hetauda Sub-Metropolitan City reported the highest number of infections, informed Laxman Ghimire, Information Officer at the DHO, Makawanpur.
The infected ones who were mostly from ward 4 and 5 in Hetauda Sub-Metropolitan City were under treatment, shared Ghimire, adding that statistics on the same were yet to be received from private hospitals.
Meanwhile, scrub typhus was reported in nine people in the past 15 days while Kala-azar (Visceral leishmaniasis) in a person during the same period.
