Madhes Province Assembly formulates 67 laws

The Madhes Province Assembly has so far legislated 67 laws, according to the Office of the Chief Attorney of the Madhesh Province. 

Chief Attorney of the Madhes Province, Dr Sunil Ranjan Singh informed that other laws are under formulation process.

It has been stated that the frequent changes in the governments have brought challenges in the formulation of other laws.

He further shared that the free legal aid program being operated by the Chief Attorney Office under the Madhes province government has gradually become effective. Citizens belonging to the poor and marginalized section have improved access to justice with the free legal aid service in place, he claimed.

Dr Singh expressed the confidence that the legal structure would further strengthen good governance and the judicial system in the province.

The number of beneficiaries from the service that was launched focusing on Dalit, disadvantaged, and backward people who are likely to be deprived of access to justice due to financial condition is annually increasing, the office shared.

The provincial government has been providing legal assistance by mobilizing legal professionals in all eight districts of Madhesh.

According to the office, as many as 108 people had received the service in the starting year while the number increased to 110 in the year 2076/77 BS; 144 in the year 2077/78 BS; 238 in the year 2078/79 and 368 in the year 2081/82 BS.

The end beneficiaries have been receiving legal aid for their services from the District Court, the High Court, the Supreme Court and the Administrative Court.

 

Gold price drops by Rs 100 per tola on Thursday

The price of gold has dropped by Rs 100 per tola in the domestic market on Thursday.  

According to the Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers’ Association, the yellow metal is being traded at Rs 306, 500 per tola today.  It was traded at Rs 306, 600 per tola on Wednesday. 

The price of silver, however, has increased by Rs 50 and is being traded at Rs 5, 340 per tola.

Australia brush off loss of Mitch Marsh to crush Ireland in T20 World Cup opener

Adam Zampa and Nathan Ellis combined for eight wickets as Australia overcame the shock pre-match loss of skipper Mitch Marsh to post a crushing 67-run victory over Ireland in their T20 World Cup opener in Colombo, Reuters reported. 

Marsh was officially ruled out just 30 minutes before Wednesday night’s toss after scans revealed he was suffering internal testicular bleeding from a blow he suffered at training earlier in the week.

Australia still managed to post a competitive 6-182 on the tricky wicket, with Marcus Stoinis (45 off 29 balls), Josh Inglis (37 off 17) and Matt Renshaw (37 off 33) all playing handy cameos, according to Reuters. 

Rutherford, Motie shine as Windies sink England

Sherfane Rutherford has struck a belligerent half-century and Gudakesh Motie produced a brilliant display of spin bowling as West Indies thumped England by 30 runs at the T20 World Cup, Reuters reported. 

Rutherford smacked seven sixes in his unbeaten 76 off 42 deliveries to provide the bedrock of his team's imposing total of 6-196 in the Group C encounter in Mumbai on Wednesday.

Twice champions West Indies then returned to choke their ‌opponents with spin and bundled out England for 166 in 19 overs to top the group with their second successive victory, according to Reuters. 

Kane, Diaz score again as Bayern advance to cup semi-finals

Bayern Munich’s Harry Kane and Luis Diaz scored within three minutes of each other as they beat RB Leipzig 2-0 in their quarter-final on Wednesday to keep up their pursuit of a first German Cup success in six years, Reuters reported. 

Kane, who netted two spot kicks in the 5-1 win over Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga on Sunday, successfully converted another penalty to hand the hosts a 64th-minute lead, followed by a goal for Diaz, who had claimed a hat-trick against Hoffenheim.

The Colombian kept up his scoring spree in the 67th minute, as he got on the end of Michael Olise’s pass to beat Willi Orban to the ball and edged his finish past the onrushing goalkeeper Maarten Vandevoordt, according to Reuters. 

Messi suffers muscle strain, Miami reschedule preseason finale

Inter Miami’s Lionel Messi did not participate in training on Wednesday due to a muscle strain in his left hamstring, with his injury leading to the postponement of what was supposed to be the reigning MLS Cup champions' preseason finale, Reuters reported. 

Inter Miami, who are scheduled to open their MLS campaign on February 21, said the two-time reigning league MVP sustained the injury during a preseason game last weekend against Barcelona Sporting Club in Ecuador, where he scored but was substituted in the second half.

Messi underwent additional medical tests that confirmed the diagnosis, according to Reuters.

Manchester City halved Arsenal's lead at the top of the Premier League to three points with a 3-0 win over visitors Fulham, while Aston Villa stayed in the frame with a late 1-0 victory at home to Brighton & Hove Albion on Wednesday, Reuters reported ​​​​​​. 

Sunderland's season-long unbeaten home record was ended as Liverpool won 1-0 to boost their top-four hopes.

Nottingham Forest squandered a chance to move away from the bottom three as they drew 0-0 with bottom side Wolverhampton Wanderers, while second-bottom Burnley priduced a remarkable 3-2 comeback win at Crystal Palace to boost their survival hopes, according to Reuters. 

10 fugitives brought back home with help of INTERPOL

The Nepal Police brought 10 fugitives, who were hiding abroad after being accused of different charges in the country, back home with the help of International Criminal Police Organization(INTERPOL). 

Spokesperson of Nepal Police and Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Abhi Narayan Kafle said that 10 people were brought back to Nepal from different countries with the help of INTERPOL. 

DIG Kafle stated that the 'red notices' were issued by the INTERPOL against eight and diffusion notices against two other fugitives. It is stated that they were brought to Nepal for legal actions. 

Kafle also pledged to bring back those criminals under the legal framework.   

The ‘red notices’ against the fugitives are issued by INTERPOL at the request of the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB), Nepal Police.
