374 small industries closed in 10 months in Makawanpur
A total of 374 small-scale industries have been closed in 10 months of the current fiscal year 2023/24 in Makawanpur district due to the economic crisis.
According to the Office of the Cottage and Small Industries, Makawanpur, 167 enterprises towards industry and 207 towards commerce were closed during the period.
Similarly, 283 industries were closed in the district in fiscal year 2022/23. Office Chief Ram Prasad Bhusal said the number of industries closing their services has increased in lack of loans from banks and financial institutions, and also shortage of capital.
A total of 614 new industries—323 towards industry and 291 towards commerce have been registered at the office in 10 months of the current fiscal year.
The office had collected Rs 26.32 million revenue from different headings including registration and renewal of the industries during the period, added Bhusal.
NA meeting postponed
The meeting of the National Assembly (NA) scheduled for today has been postponed without entering its business.
The meeting was put off after the lawmakers of the main opposition party protested, standing from their respective seats.
NA Chairperson Narayan Prasad Dahal urged the opposition parties to facilitate running the Assembly business.
"We have not been able to discuss the policies and programs presented by the government for the coming fiscal year. We have not been able to carry out activities on the issues wanted by the people. The day to unveil the budget is coming closer. The NA should be more responsible to end parliament deadlock and a time has come to think on it," he mentioned.
NA Chairperson Dahal announced the postponement of today's meeting after the opposition parties continued with the obstruction.
The next meeting of the National Assembly will be at 11:30 am on Sunday.
Activities against public aspirations, police organization not acceptable: Home Minister
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs Rabi Lamichhane has opined that the activities against the public aspirations and organizational spirit of police will not be accepted at any cost.
Addressing the convocation ceremony of Nepal Police, Police Inspector Basic Training 1-182, today, DPM Lamichhane directed the police officials to follow the rule of law, supremacy of constitution and government's policy and program.
Minister Lamichhane drew attention to the organization's commitment to peace and security promotion, crime control and public service delivery to provide citizen-friendly services.
He argued that the newly inducted police officials should bear the responsibility of the organization to meet the public aspirations in service delivery, corruption and crime control and keep the organization intact and effective.
Inspector General of Police Basanta Bahadur Kunwar directed the officials to use the technology for carrying out factual and evidence-based investigations in accordance with the laws and scientific way by analyzing the collected evidence and to adhere to the international standards of human rights.
On the occasion, awards were given to police inspectors Pawan Kumar Pariyar, Sagun Khadka, Ayush Dhungana and Gokul Kumar Dhanuk for their outstanding performance in various categories during the training session.
Victims of cooperatives stage demonstration in Kathmandu
The victims of cooperatives staged a demonstration in the Capital on Friday saying that the government was not serious towards addressing their demands.
They staged a demonstration at Maitighar in the Capital this afternoon demanding that the agreement signed between the government and victims of cooperatives be implemented at the earliest.

Bachatkarta Sangrakchyan Rastriya Abhiyan Mahasangh Chairman Kushalab KC said that they were forced to announce the third phase of protest after the government did not implement the agreement signed with them.
He warned that they would intensify the protest across the country until their demands of the victims of cooperatives are met.

Parliament meeting postponed
The Parliament meeting scheduled for today has been postponed without entering its business due to the obstruction from the main opposition Nepali Congress.
Speaker Devraj Ghimire postponed the meeting for 11 am on Sunday following obstruction from the Congress, the Parliament Secretariat informed.
The NC has long been obstructing the parliamentary proceedings, alleging the involvement of Deputy Prime Minister Lamichhane in the fraud and demanding the formation of a parliamentary committee to ensure a fair investigation into the case whereas the CPN-UML and RSP in particular have made it clear that an individual-centric probe is simply unacceptable.
Flights put on hold as pothole discovered on TIA’s runway
All the arriving and departing flights have been put on hold after a pothole was seen on the runway of the Tribhuvan International Airport.
Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal spokesperson Subash Jha said that all the domestic and international flights have been affected after a crack was discovered on the runway.
Gold price drops by Rs 1, 800 per tola on Friday
The price of gold has dropped by Rs 1,800 per tola in the domestic market on Friday.
According to the Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers’ Association, the yellow metal is being traded at Rs 136, 900 per tola today. It was traded at Rs 138, 700 per tola on Thursday.
Similarly, tejabi gold is being traded at Rs 136, 250 per tola. It was traded at Rs 138, 050 per tola.
Meanwhile, the price silver, however, has increased by Rs 15 and is being traded at Rs 1,855 per tola today.
Buddha Jayanti marked in Beijing
The Embassy of Nepal in China marked the 2568th Buddha Jayanti by organizing a programme in Beijing on Thursday.
More than 120 participants including ambassadors, diplomats, Chinese nationals from various organizations, members of the Nepali community living in China and representatives from the media attended the event.
Nepal's Ambassador to China, Bishnu Pukar Shrestha, extended his greetings on the auspicious occasion and emphasized that Buddha’s eternal teachings will inspire the whole of humanity to lead a noble, compassionate, moral and meaningful life; and in combating global challenges faced by the world.
He further highlighted that the longstanding ties between the two countries which are rooted in the principles of Panchasheel symbolizes Buddhism spirituality.
On the occasion, monk Chang Zang, Vice President of the Buddhist Association of China and Abbot of Beijing Lingguang Temple shed light on the close bond between the people of Nepal and China, according to the Embassy of Nepal in China. He expressed hope for continued cooperation in fostering peace and prosperity for both nations and the global community.
Likewise, the Buddhist Monks offered prayers to Lord Buddha for world peace and harmony. The program also featured singing bowls performances and meditation.
Buddha’s paintings were also displayed on the occasion, the Embassy shared.
Meanwhile, the Hyalmo Society of Canada is scheduled to organize a grand festival at Toronto in Canada in association with the Indigenous Nationalities Association of Canada.
Issuing a press statement, the Society stated that prayers and different cultural performances will be offered on the occasion. The organizer has expected participation of as many as 1,000 participants including the guests and the members of the Hyalmo community in Canada and the US.
