Nepal reported 12 new Covid-19 cases on Thursday.

According to the Ministry of Health and Population, 2, 580 swab samples were tested in the RT-PCR method, of which 12 returned positive. Likewise, 1, 047 people underwent antigen tests, of which no onevwere tested positive.

The Ministry said that no one died of virus in the last 24 hours. The Ministry said that ni e infected people recovered from the disease.

As of today, there are 150 active cases in the country.

Results of 570 out of 753 local units made public, 29, 303 representatives elected

The results of 570 out of 753 local levels have been made public as of Thursday.

During a regular press conference, the Election Commission said that the counting of votes has been completed in 570 local units and the results have already been made public.

According to EC spokesperson Shalikram Sharma Paudel, 174/174 mayors and deputy mayors and 396/396 chairpersons and vice-chairpersons have been elected so far.

He said that 5, 650 ward chairpersons have been elected.

The Commission said that 5, 653 have been elected as woman members and 5, 556 persons have been elected as Dalit woman members.

Similarly, 1, 295 persons have been elected as ward members. With this, 29, 393 people's representatives have been elected, the EC said.

A total of 35, 221 representatives should be elected in 753 local levels. The vote counting is underway to elect 6, 000 more representatives.

 

Nepse plunges by 23.51 points on Thursday

The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) plunged by 23. 51 points to close at  2,250.91 points on Thursday, the last day of the trading week.

Similarly, the sensitive index dropped by 3.88 points to close at 437.21 points.

A total of 3,798,263 units of the shares of 219 companies were traded for Rs 1.30 billion.

Meanwhile, General Insurance Company Nepal Ltd was the top gainer today with its price surging by 7.45 percent.

At the end of the day, the total market capitalisation stood at Rs 3. 20 trillion.

Balen Shah leading by 11, 073 votes in KMC

Independent mayoral candidate Balen Shah is leading by 11, 073 votes in Kathmandu Metropolitan City.

He has secured 22, 842 votes while his closest contender Keshav Sthapit of CPN-UML garnered 11, 769 votes.

Similarly, Srijana Singh of Nepali Congress obtained 10, 986 votes.

Hari Prasad Mandal of Democratic Socialist Party elected mayor of Matihani Municipality in Mahottari

Hari Prasad Mandal has been elected as the mayor of Matihani Municipality in Mahottari.

Mandal, who had filed his candidacy from the Democratic Socialist Party Nepal, was elected to the top post of municipality for the second term.

According to Election Officer Kul Bahadur Phadera, Madal won the elections with 4, 003 votes. His closest contender Mohammad Majibul Rahaman of Janata Samajbadi Party got 1, 329 votes.

Likewise, Manju Devi of Democratic Socialist Party Nepal has been elected as the Deputy Mayor with 3, 864 votes while her rival Jibachi Devi Yadav of Janata Samajbadi Party received 2, 751 votes.

 

 

Senior advocate Bishnu Bhusal scales Mt Everest

Senior advocate Bishnu Bhusal stood atop Mount Everest, the world's highest mountain, on Monday.

Bhusal (62) said that he decided to climb the Everest to appeal the global community to reduce carbon emission.

He had left for the expedition on April 15 carrying a flag with the logo of Nepal Bar Association.

His slogan was, "Everest is melting, now let's stop carbon emissions."

Bhusal's daughter Preeti Bhusal had also successfully scaled Mount Everest a week ago.
