Two succumb to dengue in Jhapa
A total of 1,065 people have been infected with dengue in Koshi Province in the past two years.
During this period, two people died in Jhapa due to dengue infection. Bimala Dahal Paudel (42) of Haldibari-3 and eight-year-old Alok Jung Basnet of Birtamod-4 have died of dengue in Jhapa, according to Birendra Das, dengue focal person of the health office.
The number of people infected with dengue has reached 128 people in Jhapa in the past two months.
Koshi, Morang tops the list of infected with 532 followed by Jhapa, Dhankuta and Sunsari at 81, 80 and 70 respectively.
According to Surakchya Khatri, Focal Person of Health Directorate, Dhankuta, 69 in Udayapur, 68 in Bhojpur, 67 in Sankhuwasabha, 29 in Okhaldhunga, 21 in Panchthar, six in Solukhumbu, five in Ilam, four in Khotang and two in Terhathum have been infected with dengue.
In Jhapa district, 22 people have been infected with dengue in Damak, seven in Haldibari and five in Bhadrapur.
Dengue infection cases cross 500 in Chitwan
Among the patients who came for treatment in various hospitals of the district, 588 people have been diagnosed with dengue infection.
Out of the 2,394 patients who came to the hospital, 588 were found to be infected with dengue. Of the infected, 417 are from Chitwan, while 171 are from outside the district, informed Ram KC, vector controller of Public Health Office, Chitwan.
He said, “Mosquitoes bite two hours before sunrise and two hours before sunset. Those who come in contact with mosquitoes more during that time are at risk of infection." Since July, 236 people have been infected with dengue in Ichchhakamana Rural Municipality.
Similarly, 107 people have been infected in Bharatpur Metropolitan City-11 in Khairhani, 49 in Ratnanagar, three in Madi, three in Rapti and eight in Kalika Municipality, KC informed.
According to him, there are 225 women and 192 men among the infected people found in the district.
KC said that dengue is seen especially in August and October because it creates a favorable environment for mosquitoes when there will be rain and sun shine simultaneously. He said, "Now the infection has started to be seen since the beginning of July."
Dengue control turns challenging in Koshi Province
Doctors and representatives of concerned agencies said dengue control has appeared to be a challenge in Koshi Province.
As many as 582 people have been infected with dengue in the province in the last four months.
This information was shared at a program on dengue control organized by the Province Health Ministry on Wednesday in the presence of chiefs and deputy chiefs of local governments of Morang and stakeholders.
A person has so far died due to dengue in the province.
A total of 334 people have been infected with the virus in the province from July 16 to August 13.
According to Director of Dhankuta-based Health Directorate, 199 people have been infected in Morang, 33 in Jhapa, 32 in Dhankuta, 30 in Sankhuwasabha, 25 in Bhojpur, 10 in Okhaldhunga, three in Khotang and two in Tehrathum.
Number of infected people in Letang Municipality of Morang has reached 310, informed Deputy Mayor Krishna Kumari Niraula.
Dengue patients up in Kaski
Kaski district reported 40 cases of dengue on Wednesday.
With this, the district recorded 75 cases of dengue in the past week, according to the District Health Office, Kaski.
Office Chief Ram Bahadur Nepali shared that the number of dengue patients reached 362.
"Dengue fever could take a massive form if we fail to contain it on time. It is spreading rapidly in some of the wards in the Pokhara Metropolitan City," Nepali added.
Ward 8 of the Pokhara Metropolitan City has the highest number of dengue patients. The ward has 16 reported cases out of 319 in the city.
The best way to remain safe from dengue is to save oneself from mosquito bites, he said, warning that patients are likely to succumb to the dengue fever if treatment was not done on time.
The Mayor of the Pokhara Metropolitan City, Dhanraj Acharya, has said that a 'search and destroy' campaign has been launched after the rising cases of dengue fever.
Dengue infection increases due to the deposition of water in pits and ditches during the rainy season, said doctors.
At an interaction program on the role of stakeholders in controlling and preventing the spread of dengue, Mayor Acharya urged the city dwellers to destroy the possible habitat of mosquitoes.
Now, the 'search and destroy' campaign will be conducted from 10 to 10:30 in the morning every Friday.
Likewise, the Pokhara Metropolitan City has ensured free treatment and tests against dengue from all its 46 health institutions within the city, Mayor Acharya stated.
10-bed dengue ward set up in GP Koirala Hospital
A 10-bed dengue ward has been set up at the GP Koirala National Respiratory Treatment Center in Shuklagandaki Municipality, Tanahun.
Hospital's Executive Director Dr Ram Kumar Shrestha said a separate ward has been set up at the hospital as the number of dengue patients has increased.
Last year, dengue had spread as an epidemic here. So far, 385 people have been tested for dengue at the hospital, of which 96 have tested positive, he said.
Of those who tested positive for dengue, 24 have returned home after treatment. Meanwhile, the number of patients coming to Damauli Hospital for dengue test has also increased.
Hospital chief Dr Parivartan Baral said 25 out of 223 patients tested positive for the virus.
