Milan salvage unbeaten run in dramatic draw with Genoa

A late Rafael Leao goal earned AC Milan a 1-1 draw with Genoa at the San Siro on Thursday where the hosts extended their unbeaten run in Serie A thanks to a penalty miss from the visitors on the stroke of fulltime, Reuters reported.

Milan had gone 16 matches without defeat since their only league loss on the opening day of the season, but that impressive run looked like coming to an end with Milan loanee Lorenzo Colombo scoring against his parent club in the 28th minute

Leao headed in from a corner in stoppage time to equalise but there was more late drama when Genoa were awarded a penalty at the death. However, Nicolae Stanciu sent his spot kick over the bar, according to Reuters.

PSG clinch French Super Cup after shootout win over Marseille

Goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier was the hero as Paris St Germain clinched their fourth consecutive French Super Cup title, beating rivals Olympique de Marseille 4-1 in a penalty shootout after a dramatic 2-2 draw in Kuwait on Thursday, Reuters reported.

PSG looked to be cruising to victory after an early goal from Ousmane Dembele, who had also scored the late winner in last season's 1-0 final victory over AS Monaco in Doha.

However, Marseille stunned the French champions with two late goals to turn the game on its head. Mason Greenwood converted a penalty and a Willian Pacho own goal gave Marseille a shock lead, according to Reuters.

Real Madrid edge Atletico 2-1 to set up Clasico in Super Cup final

Real Madrid booked a Spanish Super Cup final against Barcelona after beating city rivals Atletico Madrid on Thursday, with early goals from Federico Valverde and Rodrygo either side of halftime setting them on course for victory, Reuters reported.

Xabi Alonso's side will face Barca on Sunday in Jeddah in a repeat of last year's final, which their bitter rivals won, after the Catalans eased past Athletic Bilbao on Wednesday.

Real Madrid struck 75 seconds into the game when captain Valverde unleashed a powerful free kick from 25 yards out into the top corner, with goalkeeper Jan Oblak only able to get a faint touch, according to Reuters.

Lacklustre Arsenal held to dour 0-0 draw by Liverpool

Arsenal missed the chance to go eight points clear at the top of the Premier League in a turgid 0-0 draw with champions Liverpool at a rain-drenched Emirates Stadium on Jan 8, Reuters reported.

Mikel Arteta’s side had won seven successive home league games and were expected to take advantage of title rivals dropping points but were subdued against a Liverpool side who extended their unbeaten league run to nine games.

Injury-hit Liverpool began slowly but grew in stature and came closest to breaking the deadlock when Conor Bradley struck the crossbar in the first half, according to Reuters.
