Mayor Shah bans screening of Indian films in Kathmandu from tomorrow

Kathmandu Metropolitan City Mayor Balen Shah has banned the screening of Indian movies in Nepal from Monday. Shah said that he decided to ban the screening of Indian movies in Nepal from tomorrow after his request to remove a portion of the movie ‘Adipurush’ which shows that Janaki is the Indian daughter, was ignored. “Indian movies will not be allowed to screen in Kathmandu metropolis until the controversial part of the movie is removed,” he said. “If the movie is permitted to screen in Nepal, it will cause irreparable damage to Nepal’s nationality, cultural unity and national sovereignty,” Mayor Shah said.    

Property worth Rs 500 million destroyed in floods and landslides in eastern Nepal

Property worth around Rs 500 million have been destroyed in floods and landslides in eastern Nepal. Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport Management Prakash Jwala informed today's meeting of the House of Representatives about the matter. "Heavy floods and landslides triggered by rainfall in Taplejung, Tehrathum, Sankhuwasabha and Panchthar have caused huge losses. Some people have lost their lives while others have gone missing in the disaster. I personally and on behalf of the government want to offer condolences to the victims," he said. Rescue efforts and relief distribution have been sped up, he said, adding that Nepal Army, Armed Police Force and Nepal Police personnel, government employees have been deployed to the incident sites for rescue efforts and relief distribution. "Taplejung has been cut off from other districts after the flood swept away a bridge over the Huwa river. Electricity has also been disrupted. Five meters of road along the Arun corridor has been damaged," he said. The Mid-Hill Highway has been damaged at some places, he said.

Sankhuwasabha flood: 2 rescued, 15 still missing

Two hydropower project workers, who were reported to have been swept away by the flooded Hewa River in Sankhuwasabha district, have been rescued. They were rescued in a severe condition. Tikaram Chaudhary (24) and Deepak Raj Tharu of Bardiya Municipality-4 from the Lumbini Province were among those 17 workers from the Super Hewakhola Hydropower Project who had gone missing in the flood last night, said DSP and Chief of District Police Office, Sankhuwasabha, Narendra Godar. Remaining 15 workers are still missing. The two have been receiving treatment at the Chainpur Community Hospital since their rescue. The flood triggered by incessant rainfall swept away seven houses along the river bank. Police said that the flood has largely damaged the Super Hewa Hydropower Project based in Chainpur-4. It caused significant damages to the under-construction motorable bridge connecting Panchkhapan and Chainpur. A joint security squad from the Area Police Office Chainpur and the Armed Police Force is searching for the missing people.    

PM Dahal apprised of damage caused by floods and landslides

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal’s attention has been drawn towards the damage caused by the floods in the Hewakhola river of Sankhuwasabha district on Saturday night. A team led by Deepak Khadka, a member of Parliament from Sankhuwasabha held a meeting with Prime Minister Dahal this morning and apprised him of the damage caused by the floods in Sankhuwasabha. The delegation urged the government to take stock of the damage. In the meeting, Khadka said that the state suffered a loss of billions of rupees as a dozen hydroelectric power houses have been damaged due to the floods in Sankhuwasabha. He said the workers working in the power houses have also been missing in the disaster. Lawmaker Khadka urged the government to take stock of the damage and start initiatives for rescue and relief. On the occasion, PM Dahal expressed sorrow over the loss of life and property due to the floods. He said directives have been issued to the security bodies and employees to actively involve in search, rescue and relief. Khadka that the Prime Minister has said he would go to Sankhuwasabha to take stock of the damage. Lawmaker Khadka was accompanied by Province Assembly member Rajendra Karki and leaders of various political parties from Sankhuwasabha. The flooded Hewakhola has swept away seven houses and 17 workers at Hewakhola Hydropower have gone missing due to the disaster that hit Sankhuwasabha last night, the District Police Office, Sankhuwasabha said. The flood damaged the under-construction motorable bridge connecting Panchkhapan and Chainpur.
