One held with 120 kg marijuana from Rautahat
Police have arrested a man with a huge cache of marijuana from Gaur, Rautahat. Acting on tip off, a police team raided the Phalak Poultry Farm in Gaur Municipality-3 and recovered 180 kilograms of marijuana. Police said that they have impounded a mini truck (Bagmati Province 01-006-Kha 2830), which was parked near the poultry farm, and arrested its driver Surendra Syangden (21) of Agra, Makwanpur. DSP Uma Shankar Yadav of the District Police Office, Rautahat said that they are looking into the case.
Maya Luhar murder accused APF constable nabbed from Kanchanpur
Police have arrested an Armed Police Force (APF) constable accused of murdering a woman. A special security team arrested Bharatram Koli of Shivanath-4 of Baitadi from Kanchanpur, DIG Mohan Kumar Acharya, Chief at the Province Police Office, said. He was nabbed for murdering Maya Luhar of Pancheshwor Rural Municipality-4, Baitadi. Preliminary investigation suggests they were in a relationship, police said. Further investigation into the incident is underway.
Cops start investigation into Lamichhane’s citizenship
Police have started an investigation into the citizenship dispute of Rabi Lamichhane, Chairman of the Rastriya Swatantra Party. According to a police source, Kathmandu police have started an investigation into Lamichhane’s citizenship. Lamichhane, who had already won the election to the House of Representatives, is accused of submitting a ‘relinquished’ Nepali citizenship certificate. A complaint has been filed at the Ministry of Home Affairs, requesting to carry out an investigation into Lamichhane’s citizenship certificate. Lamichhane had defeated Umesh Shrestha, common candidate of the ruling coalition, and CPN-UML candidate Krishna Bhakta Pokharel to emerge victorious.
Land Commission urges local levels not to intervene in landless settlement
The National Land Commission has said works are going on to collect and verify details of landless dalits, landless squatters and those residing unsystematically. According to Commission Vice-Chair and Spokesperson Nahendra Khadka, though such works were suspended for a certain time with the enforcement of the Election Code of Conduct, it will resume very soon. The Commission has urged all the local levels including the Kathmandu Metropolis and the government and non-government offices not to intervene in the settlement of Dalits and landless squatters, and not to take or cause any move capable of making them unsafe until the works to distribute land registration certificates to the target groups get over. It has urged local levels which have earlier issued a 35-day public notice in the national daily to collect the details of such people to act in accordance to the consensus reached between the Commission and them. The Commission mentioned that it and local levels, not all, have earlier agreed to manage the landless, Dalits and people residing unsystematically through a due process. The Commission formed in accordance with the Land Act-1964 remains as the government entity to provide land to the landless Dalits and squatters and to systematize haphazard settlement.
