Dengue cases on the rise in Dhading

The number of dengue patients has started increasing in the district. Medical Superintendent at the District Hospital, Dr Madhukar Dahal, said dengue was confirmed in 11 patients who visited the hospital on Tuesday alone. Dengue patients have started increasing at a time when the number of people suffering from cold, cough and fever has also climbed in the hospital. Out of the patients who visited the hospital in the month of Shrawan and till date in Bhadra, dengue was confirmed in 114 people. A total of 11 dengue patients have been receiving treatment. A dengue patient lost his life in the District Hospital in the course of treatment.  

NSU to host nationwide Illumination program in memory of leader Giri

Nepal Student Union (NSU), student wing of Nepali Congress, is illuminating lamps across the country on the 13th mourning day of the late NC leader Pradeep Giri, today. Issuing a press statement on Wednesday, NSU President Dujang Sherpa directed all 77 districts working committees, university coordination committee, campus unit committee and other subordinate committees to organize a creative program along with lamp illumination on Thursday evening to commemorate the contributions of the leader. The central committee of the NSU has organized a condolence program at Shantibatika in Kathmandu today. Leader Giri who had suffered from cancer died during treatment at Mediciti Hospital, Lalitpur on last August 20. His body was cremated at Pashupati Aryaghat with state honor on August 21.

Committee to continue questioning suspended CJ Rana on Thursday

The suspended Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher Rana on Wednesday furnished his statement before the impeachment recommendation committee of the federal parliament. The recording of his statement will be continued on Thursday too, as the discussion was held on only four questions on Wednesday. He will be quizzed at 11:00 am the next day. Following the interrogation, lawmaker Lalbabu Pandit said interrogation of suspended CJ Rana had begun. In the committee discussion, Rana was facing accusation, he added, saying, “The interrogation began with the accusation he was labeled. Questions and answers continued for four hours on corruption, use of brokers at SC, delayed justice delivery etc today.” The impeachment recommendation committee has prepared 43 questions to be put forth before the suspended CJ. Only four questions were dealt today. Similarly, lawmaker in the committee Min Bishwokarma viewed it would take time for the interrogation and its conclusion. Meanwhile, the suspended CJ Rana argued the he was not guilty but the allegations were made one-sidedly to him. Although the issue of impeachment could be settled within three months of impeachment motion, it has just entered the parliament committee after six months. Earlier, on 24 August, the impeachment recommendation committee had decided to summon Rana for the interrogation. A total of 98 lawmakers had registered impeachment motion against CJ Rana on 13 February early this year. Although the lawmaker had formed the impeachment recommendation committee, the committee held its first meeting just two weeks back. The Nepal Bar Association and the Supreme Court Bar Association have submitted a 34-point letter to the committee to substantiate the impeachment motion. In the letter, the logic and reasons behind impeachment motion have been mentioned. On Wednesday, the suspended CJ Rana had reached Singh Durbar at 10:45 am while the committee meeting began at 11:00am.

Rishi Panchami being observed today

The Hindu women across the country are observing the Rishipanchami festival today as per the rituals. The festival, the concluding day of the Teej, is observed on the fifth day of bright half moon of the month of Bhadra. Hindu women reaching their menstruation period observe this festival with due respect and importance by fasting and paying homage to the Saptarshis (seven powerful saints as per the Hindu mythology) with a belief that they will be blessed and forgiven for all sins they believed to have committed during the menstrual cycle. On the day, those observing the festival wake up early in the morning, go to nearby river, stream, pond and lake and take bath with established rituals. They clean their body with 365 stems of Apamarga, a medicinal plant; take bath with cow dung and soil collected from sacred places and ash. The fasting ritual requires the devotee to take bath in the morning and carryout prayers after which the person is required to eat grains, vegetables, wild fruits, Kandamul, guava for a single meal and fast again. On this day, woman devotees throng the Shrisheshwar Temple in Teku of the capital city, Kathmandu, and other Rishi Temples across the nation for homage and worship.

Two women killed in Dang lightning

Two women died and 12 others were injured when a lightning struck a group of women celebrating Teej festival at Gurau in Ghorahi Sub-Metropolitan City-12 of Dang on Tuesday. The incident occurred when the women were celebrating Teej festival last night, said DSP Rajan Gautam, spokesperson at the District Police Office, Dang, said. Further details about the incident are yet to come.  

Jazeera Airways to operate flights at GBIA on daily basis from September 6

Jazeera Airways, a Kuwaiti airline, is set to operate flights at Gautam Buddha International Airport (GBIA) on a daily basis from September 16, according to the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN). The airways has been conducting flights at the airport three days a week (Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays) since it started direct commercial flights between Nepal and Kuwait in May. For this, the airline has completed the due process, said CAAN Spokesperson Jagannath Niraula. Flights have been added, thanks to increasing occupancy rates, according to the airline. The airline company is operating flights to and from Nepal, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Europe. At present, only the airline has got permission to operate flights at the airport that came into operation commercially since May 16, said Niraula, adding that other airlines have also showed their interest to operate flights at the airport. Wizz Air, a Hungarian airline, is also scheduled to operate flights at the airport from October 30, he said. The flights will take place between Abu Dhabi in United Arab Emirates and Nepal three days a week. At present, 26 airlines including three Nepali ones have been conducting international flights at the Tribhuvan International Airport, one of the two operating international airports in Nepal. Before COVID-19, over 30 airlines were operating international flights, said Niraula. However, Nepal has got its international flights that were marred by global COVID-19 gradually returning to normalcy. Now, there are 70 percent occupancy rates under international flights, he said.

Over 3,000 drivers face music

The Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office has taken action against 3,116 drivers for flouting the traffic rules in various places of Kathmandu on Monday. Among them, 176 faced the music for drunk driving, 117 for breaching the driving lane, 230 for not obeying the red light signal, 312 for blowing horn at no-horn areas, 68 for keeping unclear number plate or changing its shape and size and 2,213 for miscellaneous offenses, police said. The Office has urged one and all to obey the traffic rules.

Teej helps to erase discrimination: Speaker Sapkota
