Unauthorized structures to be removed in Birgunj
Birgunj metropolis has launched its drive to remove unauthorized structures constructed by encroaching upon public road. In this connection, the metropolis has issued a 35-day public notice to remove the huts and structures built unlawfully in the first phase. Metropolis mayor Rajesh Man Singh shared that the public notice was issued calling for clearing off the unauthorized houses and huts in the areas for road expansion. The notice was issued to evict the illegally-built structures along both the sides of the road from Gandak Chowk to Snankaracharya Dwar via power house, Ghantaghar, Maisthan, Mahabirsthan, Adarshanagar, Alakhiya Mathm Birta temple, Narayani hospital, Birgunj custom office.

Indra Jatra, the biggest festival of the Kathmandu Valley, formally began today with the erection of a wooden ceremonial pole (lingo) at Hanumandhoka.
The festival dedicated to Indra, the god of rain and king of heaven, is celebrated for eight days.
On the occasion, Lakhe dance are performed on the streets of Kathmandu.
Meanwhile, the lingo, brought to Hanumandhoka from a jungle in Bhaktapur, was erected with the help of locals and Nepal Army personnel.
The lingo-erection procession was marked with fanfare.
Unidentified disease spreads on Manang yaks
A large number of yaks in the pastureland in Disyang Rural Municipality in Manang are taken ill and around 30 died from an unidentified disease. Chief of Veterinary Hospital and Livestock Services Expert Centre, Manang, Narayan Kusum said that a team of livestock technicians have visited the site for the treatment of the disease after the issue was noticed. The yaks have developed the symptoms of high fever, maximum salivation, difficulty in breathing, swollen throat and some others. So far 30 yaks have died of the disease. On the basis of the symptoms on yaks, the technicians have suspected the spread of foot and mouth disease. However, it is yet to confirm from the sample test of blood and bone marrow of yaks, according to Kusum. Veterinarians have continued their surveillance as the yaks are still sick in the pastureland. The Centre stated that samples of the blood and bone marrow have been sent to Provincial Veterinary Laboratory in Pokhara for the diagnosis of the disease. However, Chief of the Laboratory, Kedar Raj Pandey, said the disease is not confirmed yet adding that yak dung was needed to confirm whether or not foot and mouth disease was spread in Manang. Pandey argued that chances are high for the infection of parasite leech on animals in the Himalayas during September and October. “That could have also created problems on animals,” he added.
Weather to remain partly to generally cloudy across the country today
Weather across the country is likely to remain partly to generally cloudy throughout the day today with the possibility of light to moderate rainfall at many places of the country, according to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology. The DHM said that there is a chance of partly to generally cloudy weather in some places of Province 1, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces and slight rain along with thunder in some places of other provinces. Currently, the low pressure line of the monsoon is towards north in the eastern region of the country while it is in the normal area in the western part. Likewise, weather across the nation will remain partly to generally cloudy with the chance of light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning at one or two places of Province 1, Madhesh, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces tonight. As per the latest details of the Meteorological Forecasting Division, today's minimum temperature of the Kathmandu Valley is recorded at 20.2 degree Celsius and maximum temperature at 30.2 degree Celsius.
French parliamentary delegation calls on Foreign Minister Khadka
A delegation of the France-Nepal Interparliamentary Friendship Group in the French Senate led by Daniel Salmon called on Foreign Minister Narayan Khadka on Monday. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, they exchanged views on a range of matters including development cooperation, trade, and investment, climate change as well as the importance of parliamentary exchanges. On the occasion, Minister Khadka thanked the French side for the support provided during COVID-19. President of France-Nepal Interparliamentary Friendship Group in the French Senate Senator Daniel Salmon and Senator Anne-Catherine Loisier are on an official visit to Nepal at the invitation of the Chairperson of Nepal France Inter-Parliamentary Group, Madhav Kumar Nepal. According to a press statement from the Embassy of France, the visiting French parliamentary delegation will pay courtesy calls on President Bidya Devi Bhandari, Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, Speaker of the House of Representatives Agni Prasad Sapkota, National Assembly Chairperson Ganesh Prasad Timilsina and other top leaders of different political parties. The French delegate is also expected to hold interactions with members of the private sector, experts on climate change, and others, it is said.
Japanese encephalitis claims three lives in Makawanpur
Three persons died of Japanese encephalitis in different locations in Makawanpur district, the District Health Office confirmed. The causalities were reported two from Bakaiya Rural Municipality and one from Hetauda Sub-Metropolitan City. Likewise, 48-year-old Susmita Gole from Bagmati Rural Municipality is receiving treatment in Bharatpur Hospital, Chitwan, after getting a serious Japanese encephalitis infection. Meanwhile, the District Health Office said that dengue infection in Makawanpur district was out of control adding that over 750 patients of dengue were traced in different wards of Manahari Rural Municipality and Hetauda Sub-Metropolitan City. Provisions have been ensured for their treatment and patients with critical health conditions have been referred to Bharatpur Hospital in Chitwan and Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital, Patan Hospital, and Bir Hospital in the capital city.
10,888 polling stations fixed
The Election Commission has determined a total of 10,888 polling stations across the country for the upcoming elections to the House of Representatives and provincial assemblies set for November 20. It may be noted that there were a total of 10,756 polling stations in the local level elections held on May 13 earlier this year. The Election Commission reviewed the number of polling stations also considering the number of voters, convenience and security sensitivities in accordance with the Polling Station and Voting Centre Fixation Work Procedure, 2020. The EC decided to make polling management effective and ensure easy access of voters to the voting process. In line with the arrangements specified in the Working Procedure, the revision was also based on the recommendations received from the district polling station and voting centre fixation recommendation committee. The recommendations were also premised on several aspects such as voters' density, access to polling station, building, communications, electricity, transport, status of infrastructure, security and geographical situation and consensus among electoral stakeholders. According to EC Spokesperson Shaligram Sharma Poudel, the number of polling stations has reached 10,888.
Nepalgunj detects dengue case
A dengue case was detected in Nepalgunj Sub Metropolitan City, according to the sub metropolis officials. A person residing in the Bus Park area in Nepalgunj was tested positive for the mosquito-borne viral disease. Following this, the sub metropolis has come up with a decision to launch a campaign to destroy mosquitoes, said Ram Bahadur Chand, chief of the health division, Nepalgunj sub metropolis. Similarly, an all-party meeting also decided to launch an awareness campaign and a drive to destroy mosquitoes from Monday. Chairperson of the sub metropolis-4 Gopal Pun stressed the need for creating awareness about the disease.
