Country to witness partial to general changes in weather today
Light rain with thunder and lightning is likely to take place in some areas of the country with partial to general changes in the weather system, the Weather Forecast Division said. Partial to general changes are likely to occur across the country in the afternoon on Tuesday, it is informed. Some places of the province-1, Bagmati province, Gandaki province, Lumbini province and Sudurpaschim province and limited areas of other remaining provinces are likely to receive light to moderate rainfall. Heavy rainfall is predicted in one-two places of Sudurpaschim and Lumbini provinces. The same weather system will prevail in the night today. The Kathmandu Valley has witnessed partial changes in weather conditions since early this morning. Kathmandu would see a maximum temperature of 30 Degree Celsius and minimum 19 Degree Celsius today.
Foundation stone laid for motorable bridge linking Nepal, India
The construction of a motorable concrete bridge over the Mahakali River in Darchula district has begun. Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supplies Dilendra Prasad Badu and Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, India, Pushkar Singh Dhami jointly laid the foundation stone for the project amid a function here today. Following the event, Minister Badu said the bridge linking Nepal and India was a need to increase trade between the two countries as well as with China while expressing the hope that the project would help open the door to development in the country. It also helps to ease people's mobility to travel to India for the people of Baitadi and Bajhang districts, he added. "The bridge was also needed to ease mobility of local people and traders. Now, the project would relieve them of hassles involving their visit to Indian cities, Gaddachauki and Gauriphanta, for various purposes." It would also strengthen religious and social relations between the two countries, he said. The 110 meters long bridge will be built with assistances from the Government of India.
Constitution Day: 998 individuals to receive decorations and titles
President Bidya Devi Bhandari has announced to confer various decorations and titles on 998 individuals on the occasion of the Constitution Day and National Day, 2079 BS at the recommendation of the Council of Ministers. Names of the individuals to be decorated on the occasion were made public as per the decision of the Council of Ministers in accordance with the Article 277 of the Nepal Constitution. The announcement was made in a statement issued today by the Spokesperson of the Office of the President, Sagar Acharya.
President Bhandari attends main function of Constitution Day
President Bidya Devi Bhandari attended the main function organized on the occasion of the 8th Constitution Day and National Day at Army Pavilion, Tundikhel, on Monday. Vice-President Nanda Bahadur Pun, Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, acting Chief Justice Deepak Kumar Karki, Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota, National Assembly Chairperson Ganesh Prasad Timilsina, ministers, constitutional bodies chiefs, high-placed government officials, chiefs and representatives of foreign diplomatic missions in Kathmandu were also present in the program. On the occasion, flowers were showered through a helicopter of the Nepal Army while several cultural processions along with musical bands of the Nepal Army, Nepal Police and Armed Police Force were performed with the national anthem. Prime Minister Deuba had addressed the special ceremony.
Constitution Day being observed today (In pictures)
Constitution Day is being observed with various programs across the country today. The day marks the promulgation of the constitution written by the people's representatives from the Constituent Assembly on 20 September 2015.
The present constitution is the seventh written constitution of Nepal, which has aimed to establish socialism via citizen's socioeconomic and cultural rights. It bears special significance for it was promulgated by the Constituent Assembly that was based on the second people's movement, peace accord and peace process.
The peace accord was signed earlier between the seven political parties and the rebellious CPN-Maoist.
Importantly, it has formally institutionalized the new system of federal democratic republic with the abolition of the unitary system and monarchy.
A special function is being organized at the Army Pavilion at Tundikhel this morning.
Nepal Television and Radio Nepal will livecast the formal celebration of Constitution Day to be held at the Army Pavilion at Tundikhel in Kathmandu.
Constitution binds all citizens for national unity: Gurung
Gandaki Province chief Prithvi Subba Gurung said the present Constitution has bound all Nepali in the string of national unity. In a message of best wishes delivered on the occasion of the Constitution Day on Monday, he said the Constitution has ended all forms of discrimination and oppression resulted in by the autocratic and centralized state systems. He further noted that the main law of the land has bound the entire Nepali society enriched with ethnic, lingual, religious, cultural and geographical diversities in the wider continuum of national unity. As per the Constitution, Nepal's national sovereignty has rested on its people and that they are the source of state power, the message reads. "As the Constitution is the main law of the country, we need to focus on distributing the fruits of democracy on an equal basis by implementing the constitutionally-guaranteed fundamental rights of the people", Province Chief Gurung emphasized. He said that the upcoming November 20 elections to the members of House of Representatives and provincial assembly was spectacular for the implementation of the Constitution and expressed his belief that the country would move ahead to the path of political stability and prosperity after the elections. The province chief also appealed to all voters to actively participate in the upcoming elections and use their constitutionally-guaranteed franchise right, it is stated in the message.
Festival-focused road maintenance to begin
Maintenance of broken and crumbled roads will be carried out to ease travel and transport in the times of festival. A meeting headed by Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport Management Mohammad Istiaq Rai and attended by transport entrepreneurs decided to issue directive to the Department of the Roads for timely road maintenance in view of the festivals. General Secretary of the Federation of Nepalis National Transport Entrepreneurs Deknath Gautam said that a decision was made to issue directive to the Department of the Roads to immediately repair the broken roads and highway considering the movement of the passengers on the occasion of festivals, including Dashain, Tihar and Chhath. The meeting also decided that the Department of Transport Management will study, discuss and consult on the 21-point demands of the Federation and present the report with its response to the Ministry. Also present on the occasion along with Minister Rai, Ministry Secretary Gopal Prasad Sigdel, director-general of the Department of Transport Management Tokraj Pandey, joint-secretaries of the ministry, Federation chairperson Bijaya Bahadur Swar, vice-chairperson Rabi Rimal, general-secretary Gautam and deputy general-secretary Rajan Rokka and others.
Consignments enter Nepal via Rasuwagadhi border point
Following the recent high-level visit of the Chinese officials to Nepal, the shipments from China began entering Nepal via the Rasuwagadhi border point. China had earlier closed the border point, reasoning spread of coronavirus infection in Keyrong region. With the resumption of imports, people’s movement gained pace. In the three days, 56 Chinese containers entered Rasuwagadhi, Nepal, according to border security. Twenty-one Chinese containers entered Nepal every day in the last three days. It has resulted in higher mobility of vehicles and short-term jobs for more people. In the past, Chinese customs sent only 14 containers a day. The police informed that among the goods being imported by Nepali businesspersons in the wake of the coming Dashain festival, two containers have walnut, and 46 have readymade garments. Similarly, seven containers brought the construction materials for hydropower projects being built in Nepal, the customs employees said. Chief District Officer Nabaraj Jaishi said all containers have been sent to Kathmandu via Syafru, Mailung as the Pasang Lhamu Highway was obstructed. Businessperson Dharma Poudel said they thanked Foreign Minister Dr Narayan Khadka for facilitating the import of stuck consignments via the diplomatic channel in view of traders’ plight in the face of the Dashain festival.
