Nepal, Italy sign MoU establishing consultation mechanism

Foreign Secretary Bharat Raj Paudyal and Ambassador of Italy to Nepal Vincenzo de Luca today signed a MoU on the Establishment of a Bilateral Consultation Mechanism between the two Foreign Ministries, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in its twitter. The Mechanism will be an important platform for dialogue on a regular basis between the Ministries in further enhancing bilateral relations and promoting areas of cooperation, the Ministry said.  

Chitwan reports 230 cases of scrub typhus

Various hospitals in Chitwan district report 230 cases of scrub typhus. Health Office, Chitwan said of the infected, 108 are from the district while remaining are from outside Chitwan.  Total tests conducted for the disease were 1,873. Last fiscal year, 286 tests out of 3,286, came positive to scrub typhus. Scrub typhus is caused by Orientia tsutsugamushi which is carried by mites and transmitted to humans from their bites. Fever, chills, reddish eyes, coughing, headache, muscle pain, joint pain, rash and a dark, scab-like region at the site of the bite are the symptoms of disease. Similarly, the district reports 1,155 cases of dengue as of today of the current fiscal year. Of them, 799 are within from the district, 299 are from outside the districts and addresses of 177 are yet to be ascertained.  

Election will be held in free and fair environment: Minister Karki

Minister for Communication and Information Technology Gyanendra Bahadur Karki has said that the elections to the House of Representatives and Province Assembly slated for November 20 will be held in a free and fair environment. Talking to journalists today, Minister Karki, who is also the government spokesperson, expressed the belief that the country would move ahead on the path of development, prosperity, good governance, peace, stability and economic stability after the upcoming election. The Minister was here to file his candidacy for the HoR election from Sunsari-4. He registered his candidacy on Sunday. He said the next government would strive towards ending unemployment and poverty from the country. Stating that the government has been effortful towards strengthening internal unity by protecting the constitution, he said his focus has been to make this constituency the best constituency. According to him, the Nepali Congress government has addressed the needs and aspirations of the citizens. He urged the people to make a true evaluation of the works carried out by the government. Minister Karki was elected from this constituency in the previous election and he has filed his nomination from the same constituency for the second time as well.  

Landslide obstructs Bhimdutta Highway

Bhimdutta Highway has been obstructed in Kailali's Godabari Municipality-4 due to incessant rainfall and subsequent landslide. DSP Bed Prakash Joshi said that a three-member police team led by ASI Dil Bahadur Bogati has been deputed there. Efforts are underway to clear the debris and resume the vehicular movement, Joshi added. The rainfall has caused damages to the rural road of Sudurpaschim Province and also obstructed vehicular movement to and from seven mountain districts.

26 candidates file candidacies in Rukum (East)

As many as 26 candidates have filed their candidacies from Rukum (East) for the elections to the House of Representatives (HoR) and Province Assembly members slated for November 20. Independent candidates and candidates from different political parties reached the office of the chief returning officer on Sunday and registered their candidacies. Six candidates have filed their candidatures for the parliamentary election and 20 registered for provincial election, said the office of the chief returning officer. Purna Bahadur Gharti of the CPN (Maoist Center) registered his candidacy for HoR member on behalf of the five-party coalition. Tej Bahadur Oli of the CPN (Maoist Center) filed his candidacy for province assembly member from constituency (1) and Dhan Bahadur of the Nepali Congress (NC) from constituency (2). Likewise, Kailash Kumar Malla registered his candidacy from CPN-UML for HoR member while Tejendra Budha and Bhawana Budhathoki filed their candidacies for province assembly member from constituency (1) and (2), respectively. Likewise, Khim Bahadur Khatry from Rastriya Prajatantra Party filed his candidacy for HoR member from the same constituency while Keshab Chandra Samal registered candidacy for province assembly from constituency (B). Similarly, 14 independent candidates have registered their candidacies. An independent candidate has registered candidacy for HoR member while 13 candidates filed candidatures for province assembly members. Chandraraj Jhankri registered his independent candidacy for HoR member. Likewise, Ramsur Budhamagar, Sangam Roka, Surul Pun, Kali Prasad Roka, Om Kumari Shahi, Dul Kumar Pun have registered independent candidacies for province assembly member from constituency (1), Similarly, Gajendra Bahadur Oli, Narahari Khadka, Bhim Bahadur Khadka, Keshab Rawal, Purna Jung Sing, Dal Prasad Kami and Suresh Thapa registered their independent candidacies from constituency (2).

Incessant rain inundates several places in Banke

Most of the places in Banke district have been inundated due to incessant rain and subsequent flooding. At least 3,600 people belonging to 500 households have been rendered displaced because of natural disaster. The most affected places are Raptisonari, Narainapur and Duduwa. The Rapti River flooding has displaced 300 households of Raptisonari Rural Municipality-2, Tikulipur settlement, said Information Officer at the District Disaster Management Committee Rupan Gyawali. "The displaced are those abandoning homes due to fear", he said. The flood-affected people have been kept in different shelter homes and schools while some of them have returned to their own homes, he added. The flood has widely eroded the river embankment areas. Likewise, over 300 residents of Krishi Chauferi of Duduwa Rural Municipality and ward 18 and 20 of Nepalgunj Sub-Metropolis have also been displaced due to inundation. Flood has displaced 200 families of Narainapur. Most of the settlements in six wards of the rural municipality have been waterlogged. Rural Municipality Chair Istiak Ahamad Sah said that the local people are not in a condition to reside and prepare meals in their homes due to inundation. The inundated areas have been without electricity for the past four days. Several settlements, including Baniya village, Roshanpurawa, Mahatiniya, Bahabpurawa, Gigali, Rataiya, Kautiya, Kodipur and Pachpedawa, Ghoddanriya, Panditpurawa and Jamunaha have been waterlogged. "Almost all areas here have been besieged with water", he said. A meeting of the District Disaster Management Committee has decided to collect data of the flood survivors and provide dry foods to the affected as part of immediate relief measure.

Finance Minister Sharma contesting HoR election from Rukum West

Finance Minister Janardhan Sharma has filed his nomination for the election to the House of Representatives from Rukum West. He will be contesting for the HoR seat on behalf of the CPN (Maoist Center) from the district which has a sole constituency under the HoR. The sitting minister reached the Office of Chief Election Officer in Khalanga this afternoon to register the nomination. Likewise, towards the Province Assembly (PA) elections, Mahendra KC has filed his candidacy from Rukum West (A) and Raj Kumar Sharma has filed his candidacy from Rukum West (B) from the Maoist Center.  

13 injured in Ramechhap bus accident

At least 13 passengers were injured when a bus met with an accident at Khandadevi Rural Municipality-3 in Ramechhap district on Sunday. The incident occurred when the bus (Ba 3 Kha 4048) heading towards Kathmandu from Doramba skidded off the road today. Over-speeding is blamed for the accident, said eyewitnesses. All the injured have been taken to the Dhulikhel Hospital for treatment, said police, adding that around 30 passengers, most of them returning home after receiving Dashain tika, jamara and blessings from elders, were onboard the reserved bus when the accident took place.
