Atletico Madrid got a 3-1 home victory against Union Saint-Gilloise in their Champions League clash on Tuesday, with goals from Julian Alvarez, Conor Gallagher and Marcos Llorente keeping Diego Simeone's side in the hunt for qualification, Reuters reported.
The result leaves Atletico 14th in the league phase standings on six points from four matches, level with five other teams, while Belgium champions Union Saint-Gilloise sit 26th with three points and outside the qualification spots.
Union Saint-Gilloise started aggressively, exploiting counter-attacks with speed, but Atletico struck first in the 40th minute when Giuliano Simeone burst up the right channel and put it on a plate for his Argentina team mate Alvarez to unleash an unstoppable half-volley from inside the box, according to Reuters.
Juventus still winless in Champions League after 1-1 draw with Sporting
Juventus are still without a win in the Champions League after they were held to a 1-1 draw in Turin by Sporting on Tuesday, when Maximiliano Araujo put the visitors ahead and Dusan Vlahovic equalized for the hosts, Reuters reported.
An eight-game winless streak in all competitions led to the recent sacking of Juventus coach Igor Tudor and, after two victories on the bounce since then, another draw in Europe, this time under Luciano Spalletti, put the Italians on three points from four matches.
"We are not happy with the result, we could have done more," Vlahovic told Sky, according to Reuters.

Western belt of the country experiencing partial impact of westerly wind
The western belt of the country is experiencing a partial impact of the low pressure system caused by the westerly wind, according to the Weather Forecasting Division.
The weather service predicted a generally cloudy weather in Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini and Sudurpaschim Provinces, while partly cloudy in rest of the places across the country today.
Similarly, few hilly and mountainous regions of Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpaschim Provinces are forecasted to have light to moderate rainfall and snowfall.
One held for vandalizing Baneshwor Police Circle
Police have arrested a person involved in vandalising the Police Circle at New Baneshwor during the Gen Z protest.
The District Police Office, Kathmandu arrested Shivam Chaudhary (18) originally from Dhanusha district and currently staying at Mahalaxmi Municipality of Lalitpur.
He was involved in torching and vandalizing the Police Circle and the Parliament Building at New Baneshwor on September 9. He was also found involved in looting and misusing the police uniform.
Deputy Superintendent of Police, Pavan Kumar Bhattarai said that further investigation into the incident is underway.
Chair Oli, senior leader Khanal discuss party unity
At a time when party split and unification bids are gaining pace among communist forces in the wake of Gen Z protest and election to the House of Representatives slated for March 5, Chairman of the CPN UML, KP Sharma Oli, and senior leader of the CPN (Unified Socialist), Jhalanath Khanal, held a meeting on Tuesday.
A significant faction of the Unified Socialist led by Madhav Kumar Nepal has already decided its unification with the CPN (Maoist Center) led by Pushpa Kamal Dahal.
The two leaders Oli and Khanal held the discussion on unity and entry to the UML, according to politburo member Mahesh Basnet. A positive talk was held between the leaders and it was expected to improve the relations.
It has been learnt that as many as 100 Unified Socialist leaders, including Ram Kumari Jhankri, Kisan Shrestha, Ambar Bahadur Thapa, Gambhir Lal Shrestha, Pitambar Timsina and Arjun Rai are returning to the UML.
The Unified Socialist is the splinter of the UML party.
China sentences infamous Myanmar scam mafia members to death
A Chinese court has sentenced five top members of an infamous Myanmar mafia to death as Beijing continues its crackdown on scam operations in South East Asia, BBC reported.
In all 21 Bai family members and associates were convicted of fraud, homicide, injury and other crimes, said a state media report published on the court website.
The family is among a handful of mafias that rose to power in the 2000s and transformed the impoverished backwater town of Laukkaing into a lucrative hub of casinos and red-light districts, according to BBC.
Iran releases two French nationals from detention
Iran has released two French nationals who were detained there for more than three years, French President Emmanuel Macron has said, BBC reported.
Cecile Kohler, 41 and her partner Jacques Paris, 72, have been released from Evin prison, Macron said on Tuesday, with France's foreign minister later confirming they were "safe" at the embassy in Tehran "ahead of their final release".
"I welcome this first step. The dialogue continues to allow for their return to France as quickly as possible," Macron said, according to BBC.
