UK rolls out red carpet for Trump, and hopes to avoid red faces
US President Donald Trump formally begins his unprecedented second state visit to Britain on Wednesday (September 17, 2025) with the royal pomp a grand veneer to key diplomatic talks, and as difficult questions about Jeffrey Epstein linger, Reuters reported.
King Charles and the royal family will roll out the red carpet for the president when he arrives at Windsor Castle, the oldest and largest inhabited castle in the world and family home to British monarchs for almost 1,000 years, with a carriage procession, gun salutes, a military flypast and lavish banquet.
Britain says it will be the largest military ceremonial welcome for a state visit in living memory, according to Reuters.
Landslide obstructs Kaligandaki Highway
A massive landslide triggered by continuous rainfall has blocked the Baglung section of the Kaligandaki Corridor, a project of national pride, since this morning.
The landslide occurred at Belbagar in Jaimini Municipality-8, completely halting traffic along the route. Due to the scale of the landslide, restoring the roadway has been challenging, said District Police Office, Baglung's Chief Information Officer Keshab Thapa.
Bagmati Province Speaker Pathak resigns
Bagmati Province Speaker Bhuwan Kumar Pathak resigned from his post on Wednesday.
His resignation letter states that he has resigned from the post of Speaker of the Bagmati Provincial Assembly in accordance with the Constitution of Nepal and the Provincial Assembly Rules 2074 BS.
He is an elected lawmaker from the Rastriya Prajatantra Party.
He was elected Speaker with the support of the then ruling coalition of CPN-UML, CPN (Maoist Center), and Hamro Nepali Party.
Lumbini Province government unveils report on damages
The Lumbini province government and its subordinate bodies witnessed damages during the recent Gen Z demonstrations held on September 8-9.
A preliminary report about the damages has been made public today.
According to the document unveiled by the Office of the Chief Minister and Council of Ministers, the Office of the Province Chief, the Chief Minister's residence, and the Butwal Liaison Office were completely damaged in the course of the protests. Similarly, three vehicles were destroyed at the Chief Minister's residence.
Acting Chief Secretary for the Province, Liladhar Subedi said seven motorcycles and a car owned by the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure Development were destroyed in Dang, while incidents of minor vandalism in government entities were also reported from Arghakhanchi.
Under the Ministry of Urban Development, a motorcycle was burned in Rupandehi, and belongings inside the ministers' quarters in Lamahi, Dang, were set on fire.
The Butwal-based Treasury Controller Office witnessed damages worth around Rs 9.6 million.
Offices under the Ministry of Industry, Tourism, and Transport including the transport offices in Rupandehi, Banke, and Dang; the Directorate of Industry in Bhairahawa; the Office of Cottage and Small Industries in Dang; and the Tourism Information Center in Banke reported massive damages in the incidents of arson and vandalism.
Similarly, the Health Minister’s residence sustained damage, while under the Ministry of Energy, eight motorcycles were burned in Dang. The Directorate of Forests also reported massive destruction.
The Province Public Service Commission was subjected to arson and vandalism, resulting in the destruction of storage rooms, the loss of property records belonging to employees and public representatives, while six vehicles were reduced to ashes.
However, the administrative complex of the provincial government in Deukhuri, Rapti Valley, is spared from damage.
Minister Ghising issues directives for managing burnt vehicles
Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport, and Urban Development, Kulman Ghising, has said that the vehicles in Singha Durbar premises that were burnt down in the course of the Gen-Z demonstrations should be managed by taking them to another place.
He issued directives to this effect today, stating that the Singha Durbar premises looked ugly due to the burnt vehicles, stated Minister Ghising's secretariat.
"We shouldn't leave the office premises looking shabby, let's do our work in the interior but not let the exterior become unsightly. Let's make it nice as soon as possible. Damaged vehicles scattered around the Singha Durbar premises make it look unattractive, we should remove and manage them promptly to convey a positive message," said Minister Ghising.
Minister Ghising said that he has directed painting the outer parts of buildings that have only experienced minor damages to convey the message that we have risen from destruction, to promptly remove vehicles damaged by fire in the ministry and office premises, and to immediately assess the extent of the damage.
He clarified that the reconstruction will begin by collecting support from the government, Nepalis at home and abroad through the 'Let us build our structures ourselves' campaign.
The Ministry of Urban Development has stated that it has formed a taskforce to assess the damage incurred in the structures under its jurisdiction and has already begun work.
Inter's Martinez faces fitness test ahead of Ajax clash
Inter Milan will give captain Lautaro Martinez a late fitness test before deciding whether he can play in their Champions League group game at Ajax Amsterdam, coach Christian Chivu said on Tuesday, Reuters reported.
The Inter striker has a back issue and was taken off during their 4-3 Serie A loss to Juventus ahead of the Ajax game on Wednesday.

Tottenham edge out Villarreal thanks to own goal
Tottenham Hotspur celebrated their return to the Champions League with a 1-0 home victory over Spanish club Villarreal courtesy of an own goal by keeper Luiz Junior on Tuesday, Reuters reported.
