Prince William will attend COP30 climate summit in Brazil

The Prince of Wales will attend the COP30 climate summit in Brazil next month on behalf of the King, Kensington Palace has announced, BBC reported.

Prince William and King Charles appeared together on Thursday evening at a reception ahead of the environmental conference, which is to be held in the northern Brazilian city of Belem.

Father and son were at the Natural History Museum reception, in an unusual joint appearance, at a pre-COP30 gathering co-hosted by the UK government, according to BBC.

Fossil found on Dorset coast is unique 'sword dragon' species

A near-complete skeleton found on Dorset's Jurassic coast has been identified as a new species of ichthyosaur, a type of prehistoric marine reptile that once ruled the oceans, BBC reported.

The dolphin-sized ichthyosaur has been named Xiphodracon goldencapensis, or the "sword dragon of Dorset" and is the only known example of its kind.

Scientists say that marks on its skull suggest that the "sword dragon" may have been killed by a bite to the head, possibly inflicted by a much larger species of ichthyosaur, according to BBC.

Israeli Cabinet approves Trump’s plan for Gaza ceasefire and release of Hamas hostages

Israel’s Cabinet early Friday approved President Donald Trump’s plan for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and the release of all the remaining hostages held by Hamas, a key step toward ending the two-year war that has destabilized the Middle East, Associated Press reported.

A brief statement from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office said the Cabinet approved the “outline” of a deal to release the hostages, without mentioning other aspects of the plan that are more controversial.

Nepse surges by 22. 59 points on Thursday

The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) gained 22. 59 points to close at 2, 582. 18 points on Thursday.

Similarly, the sensitive index surged by 4. 84 points to close at 451. 31 points.

A total of 11,830,077-unit shares of 313 companies were traded for Rs 5. 27 billion.

Meanwhile, Bindhyabasini Hydropower Development Company Limited (BHDC)

was the top gainer today, with its price surging by 8. 21 percent. 

Likewise, Three Star Hydropower Limited (TSHL) was the top loser as its price fell by 

4. 30 percent.

At the end of the day, total market capitalization stood at Rs 1. 46 trillion.

 

Current government is not formed in accordance with Constitution: Oli

CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli has claimed that the current situation in the country is unusual.

Addressing a program organized by the Bhaktapur District Committee today, Oli said that the current government was not formed in accordance with the Constitution.

“The current situation in the country is unusual because there is a government in the country. The current government is not formed according to the Constitution,” the former Prime Minister said.

"The Constitution of Nepal clearly states that a person, who has already served as the Chief Justice, cannot hold any government post for personal benefit," he added.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Nine highways blocked due to floods and landslides in three provinces

Nine major highways in three provinces have been blocked due to floods and landslides triggered by incessant rainfall in various parts of the country on October 3 and 4. 

Police Headquarters stated that nine highways in Koshi, Bagmati and Karnali Provinces have been blocked due to the disaster.

The Koshi Highway has been obstructed at Barunkhola-4, Bhotkhola Rural Municipality and at Ekuwa- 3, Makalu Rural Municipality in Sankhuwasabha district.

Floods and landslides have blocked the Mechi Highway at Rajduwali- 9 of Ilam Municipality, Ilam and the Tamor Corridor at Nawakhola- 2 of Tumbewa Rural Municipality, Panchthar, said the police central spokesperson, Deputy Inspector General Binod Ghimire.

Similarly, a section of the Pasang Lhamu Highway in Gosaikunda Rural Municipality Ward No 2, Rasuwa, the BP Highway at Mamtikhola in Roshi Rural Municipality-11, Kavrepalanchok, and the BP Highway at Nepalthok in Sunkoshi Rural Municipality-1, Sindhuli, have also been blocked.

Spokesperson Ghimire said that the Karnali Corridor highway has been completely blocked at Kurilla-5 of Kharpunath Rural Municipality in Humla and at Jugenikhola- 8, Pachaljharana Rural Municipality in Kalikot.

Police said one-way traffic has been opened on the Koshi Highway in Sangurigadhi Rural Municipality- 1 of Dhankuta district and the Kanti Highway at Baguwakhola in Bhimphedi Rural Municipality-8 and at Ghattepakha in Bakaia Rural Municipality-11 in Makwanpur district.

 

 

Gold price hits new record at Rs 239, 200 per tola on Thursday

The price of gold reached an all-time high in the domestic market on Thursday, setting a new historical record.

According to the Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Traders, the price of gold has increased by Rs 1, 200 per tola to reach Rs 239, 200 per tola today.

Similarly, the silver is being traded at Rs 3, 025 per tola.
