Similarly, the sensitive index dropped by 3. 44 points to close at 379. 23 points.

A total of 11,044,485-unit shares of 315 companies were traded for Rs 4. 44 billion.

Meanwhile, Kalinchowk Darshan Limited (KDL) was the top gainer today with its price surging by 10. 00 percent.

Likewise, Infinity Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Limited (ILBS) was the top loser with its price dropped by 6. 36 percent.

At the end of the day, the total market capitalization stood at Rs 3. 34 trillion.

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has said he is confident of a political development to put an end to the ongoing parliamentary obstructions by Monday.

Though today's political meeting aiming to end the Parliament impasse failed to meet the objective, there will be consensus and an agreement in this regard by tomorrow, according to him.

He said this during his replies to the concerns over the government policies and programs for the fiscal year 2081-82 (2024-25) in a meeting of the House of Representatives today for a consensus. "Though it was not possible today, I hope it will be achieved tomorrow."

It may be noted that the NC continues to obstruct the parliamentary proceedings demanding the formation of a parliamentary committee to investigate the alleged involvement of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs, Rabi Lamichhane, in the misappropriation of the cooperative funds.

The government is all set to unveil the budget for fiscal year 2024/25 in the joint meeting of the federal Parliament at 1 pm on May 28.

Devraj Ghimire informed the lawmakers about this in the meeting of  the House of Representatives today.

He said that Finance Minister Barshaman Pun will present the annual estimate of revenue and expenditure for the fiscal year 2023/24.

Speaker Ghimire has urged the lawmakers to enter the Parliament building before 1 pm to take part in the meeting.

Meanwhile, the Parliament on Sunday endorsed the government policies and programs with a majority.

The Parliament on Sunday endorsed the government’s annual policies and programs with a majority for the upcoming fiscal year 2024/25.

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal had tabled the policies and programs, presented by President Ram Chandra Paudel in the federal Parliament on May 14, in the Parliament on Friday.

After having discussions on the policies and programs, Speaker Devraj Ghimire rejected the amendment proposal.

Soon after, Speaker Ghimire announced that the policies and programs were endorsed by the majority.

Opposition parties including the Nepali Congress chanted slogans while discussions on the policies and programs were underway in the Parliament.

Economic Survey for the fiscal year 2023/24 has been tabled in the Parliament meeting on Sunday.

Finance Minister Barshaman Pun on behalf of the government tabled the Economic Survey in the meeting of the House of Representatives this afternoon.

The main opposition Nepali Congress lawmakers stood from their respective seats and picketed the well soon after Speaker Devraj Ghimire gave time to Finance Minister Pun to table the Economic Survey. Later, marshals took Minister Pun to the rostrum.

At least 24 people, including many children, have died in a fire that broke out at a family entertainment venue in the western Indian state of Gujarat, a government official said, Aljazeera reported.

With rescue efforts continuing at the scene on Saturday evening in the Rajkot district, the local mayor told the Reuters news agency that the death toll was expected to rise.

“Our focus is on rescue operations and saving lives. We will ensure strict action is taken against the people who are responsible for this incident,” Mayor Nayana Pedhadiya said.

More than 300 people were in the two-storey structure at the TRP amusement and theme park when the blaze broke out as it was a holiday weekend, Rajkot fire officer Ilesh Kher told reporters.

“People got trapped as a temporary structure at the facility collapsed near the entrance, making it difficult for the people to come out,” he said.

“The flames spread rapidly because of its flammable material,” he added.

Television images showed a massive fire engulfing the TRP game zone and thick clouds of smoke emanating from the site. The entire structure was gutted in the blaze, according to Aljazeera.

A police official at the local civil hospital said some of the bodies were also charred beyond recognition.

Meanwhile, the district’s chief fire officer, IV Kher, said firefighters had almost brought the fire under control.

“The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained,” he told Reuters.

Gujarat Chief Minster Bhupendra Patel said that an investigation into the incident had been handed to a Special Investigation Team (SIT), and television reports added that two people had been detained by Rajkot police in connection with the incident.

Gujarat is the home state of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

In a post on the social media platform X, Modi said that he was “extremely distressed by the fire mishap in Rajkot” and added that the local administration was working to provide assistance to those affected.
