Lawmaker Singh demands White Paper on funds from donor agencies

Lawmaker Amaresh Kumar Singh has demanded the government unveil details of funds that entered the country through the non-governmental and international non-governmental sectors. He also wanted the government to prove the utility of such funds.

He demanded the details during a Parliament meeting held on Monday.

The House should have access to information about the size of funds that entered into the country through the NGOs and INGOs, Singh said.

He urged the government to issue a White Paper regarding this. He also questioned the government about the reason behind Nepal falling on the grey list of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF)

Lawmaker Roshan Karki condemned the rape on a 12-year-old girl from Achham allegedly by her adult relative while she had been in India. He demanded the guarantee of justice for the survivor.

Similarly, lawmaker Dhruba Bahadur Khanal drew the government's attention to the need for timely auctions of goods seized for evading taxes.

 "Sugar worth Rs five million has been stored in Maheshpur and it is likely to take Rs 5, 000 to destroy in absence of the lack of its auction on time. Other customs points in the country feature the shortage of seized goods including motor vehicles that are already rusty,” he said.

Similarly, lawmaker Ranju Kumari Jha stressed the need of focusing on to sort out disputes surfaced during an implementation of the Pathibhara Cable Car Project in Taplejung. 

Speaking at a zero hour, she called for undertaking the development endevours through cooperation with the locals rather than ignoring them.

She also urged the locals to be aware of the need for development. She wanted the government to take necessary actions to withdraw Nepal from the FATF grey list.

 

CIAA 34th Annual Report tabled in Parliament

The 34th Annual Report of the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA), 2080/81 has been tabled in the House of Representatives.

Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Prithvi Subba Gurung, on behalf of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli presented the report in the HoR session today.

 

AMN to be media partner of International Saga Dawa Running Festival and Himalayan Art Conference

"First International Saga Dawa Running Festival and Himalayan Art Conference 2025" will be held in Solukhumbu on May 10-18 to promote cultural heritage including Himalayan art.

Thekchen Pema Choling Gonpa of Solkhumbu is organizing the program.

Annapurna Media Network will be the media partner of the International Saga Dawa Running Festival and the Himalayan Art Conference.

An agreement was signed amidst a function organized at the Tinkune-based headquarters of Annapurna Media Network on Monday.

Annapurna Media Network General Manager Manoj Basnet, Senior Marketing Manager Pramila Rajak and Tenzing Sherpa, Chairman of Thekchen Pema Choling Gonpa, Secretary Nigma Tendup Sherpa signed the agreement.

According to Tenzing Sherpa, there will be the running competition of 42 km, 21 km, 10 km, 7.5 km and 3 km on the lap of Mt Everest.

The event to be held on Buddha Jayanti will include an exhibition of Himalayan art, an exhibition of art and cultural costumes, a fair with local food dishes and an art competition along with cultural programs.

 

 

 

 

Nepse surges by 3. 35 points on Monday

The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) gained 3.35 points to close at 2,758.75 points on Monday.

Similarly, the sensitive index surged by 0.60 points to close at 459. 25 points.

 A total of 21,110,619-unit shares of 310 companies were traded for Rs 11. 08 billion.

Meanwhile, Guardian Micro Life Insurance Limited (GMLI) was the top gainer today, with its price surging by 10. 00 percent.

Likewise, Wean Nepal Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Limited (WNLB) was the top loser as its price fell by 10.00 percent.

At the end of the day, total market capitalization stood at Rs 4. 57 trillion.

Dry landslide obstructs Khandbari-Kimathanka road

A dry landslide has obstructed the Khandbari-Kimathanka road section of the Koshi Highway this morning.

Chairperson of Bhotkhola Rural Municipality, Wangchhedar Bhote, shared that the dry landslide took place at Dhigdanda section.

The Dhigdanda section lies 109 kilometers away from Khandbari.

The landslide has buried around 30 meters of road on that section.

Vehicles coming towards Bhotkhola Khandbari and heading to various destinations from Khandbari have been stranded following the dry landslide.

 

NICE-2025 Expo kicks off in Pokhara

The tri-nation tourism expo, 'Nepal, India and China Expo (NICE)-2025', has kicked off for the first time in Pokhara from today.

The expo is organized with an objective of bringing in a maximum number of tourists from neighboring countries—India and China.

There is a participation of more than 600 people including 80 buyers, 70 sellers of the tourism sector and 75 international representatives in the three-day event.

Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) Nepal Chapter organized the expo in collaboration with Nepal Tourism Board, Pokhara Tourism Council and other government and private sector partners and stakeholders.

It is believed that the exposition would bring together tourism and hospitality stakeholder organizations from public and private sectors of the three nations onto a single platform to facilitate networking and business opportunities along with deep industry insights and inspirational experiences.

Pokhara is becoming the destination for nature lovers as well as those enjoying adventure sports. According to PATA Nepal, the three-day event is organized under the slogan 'NICE for MICE and More' with the aim of promoting Pokhara as the attractive destination for other events too (meetings, conferences, marriage ceremony, other functions and festivals).

PATA Nepal Chapter Chief Executive Officer, Suresh Singh Budal, shared that the expo has been organized with an objective of promoting Nepal's tourism potential and integrated business opportunity in India and China.

On the second day of the event, tourism experts will exchange knowledge on the issues including 'Visa Destination Insights: Supporting the Tourism Ecosystem to Sustainable Hospitality from Construction to Operation'.

Similarly, different sessions--B2B exhibition, business meeting and network expansion would also be organized on the same day. It is expected that the expo would support tourism and integrated trade promotion.

Mayor of Pokhara Metropolitan City, Dhan Raj Acharya, said gathering of renowned travel agencies of Nepal, China and India, managing the travel of around 200 million tourists for the first time in the context of Pokhara Visit Year 2025, tour operators, tourism experts and international representatives of organizers in Pokhara is an important and historical moment.

He expressed the belief that the international expo would play a significant role in inviting a large number of tourists to Nepal in future, adding this event would further strengthen tourism, business and cultural relations among Nepal, India and China.

Support and participation of all is indispensable to strengthen trade, tourism and partnership, argued Mayor Acharya.

Likewise, Chairperson of Pokhara Tourism Council, Taranath Pahari, shared that the expo would have special importance in tourism promotion of Pokhara which would further highlight the tourism potential of Pokhara.

 

Niraula honored with ‘Yog-Hari Poudel Memorial Award’

Young writer Mani Niraula has been awarded the ‘Yog-Hari Poudel Memorial New Creator Talent Award 2025,’ presented by Nawa Sarjak Sahitya Chautari Nepal, Hetauda. The award was conferred during the ‘Second National New Creator Festival and First Central Convention 2025’ in Hetauda, recognizing Niraula as the provincial talent awardee from Koshi.  

Former Chief Minister of Bagmati Province, Dormani Poudel, and award founder, literary figure Prabha Poudel, honored Niraula with a ceremonial scarf, cash prize, and certificate. The Chautari stated that Niraula received the award for showcasing remarkable literary talent at a young age through his published works.  

Prabha Poudel established the award in memory of her grandparents.  

During the event, emerging writers from all seven provinces were honored in various literary categories. Additionally, veteran writer Dr Chudamani Bandhu was presented with the ‘Loknath Neupane Memorial Children’s Literature Award 2081.’  

Niraula made his literary debut with the poetry collection ‘Pahilo Paila’ in 2077 BS and recently released his second book, the novel ‘Gupta Prem’.

Sadhus arrive in Pashupati for Maha Shivaratri (With photos)

Sadhus from various parts of Nepal and India have started arriving at the Pashupatinath Temple in Kathmandu to observe Maha Shivaratri festival.

The festival falls on February 26 this year.
