PM Oli secures vote of confidence in Parliament
Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli secured a vote of confidence in the Parliament on Sunday.
He garnered 188 votes while 74 members voted against him in the House of Representatives, the lower house of Parliament. A lawmaker remained neutral.
In the 275-member House of Representatives, 263 lawmakers were present in the meeting today.
Nepali Congress, UML, Ashok Rai-led Janata Samajbadi Party, Janata Samajbadi Party Nepal, Janamat Party and Democratic Socialist Party among others voted in favor of PM Oli.
CPN (Maoist Center), Rastriya Swatantra Party, CPN (Unified Socialist), Rastriya Swatantra Party and Janamorcha cast their votes against the vote of confidence.
CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli was appointed as the Prime Minister on July 14.
The newly appointed Prime Minister sought a trust vote at the House of Representatives (HoR) as per the Article 76(4) of the Constitution.
The Constitution of Nepal mandates that the Prime Minister appointed with the support of two or more than two political parties should seek a vote of confidence within 30 days of his/her appointment.
CPN (US) issues whip to vote against PM Oli in floor test
The CPN (Unified Soclialist) has directed its lawmakers to vote against Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli in a floor test scheduled for today.
CPN-US Leader Metmani Chaudhary said that the party has instructed its lawmakers to mandatorily present in the Parliament meeting today and vote against PM Oli.
The party will support the government on merits and demerits by remaining in the opposition, he added.

The newly appointed Prime Minister is taking a trust vote at the House of Representatives (HoR) as per the Article 76(4) of the Constitution.
It may be noted that President Ram Chandra Paudel on July 14 had appointed Oli as the Prime Minister in accordance with the Article 76 (2) of the Constitution.
Chairperson of the CPN-UML, Oli was appointed the Prime Minister with the support of the Nepali Congress.
The Parliament meeting is scheduled for 1 pm today.
Prime Minister Oli (73) succeeded CPN (Maoist Center) Chairperson Pushpa Kamal Dahal as the 45th Head of Executive of the country.
In the trust motion, Prime Minister Oli is likely to garner votes from his own party and the Nepali Congress as well as other fringe parties.
A total of 138 votes are required for a majority in the 275-member House of Representatives.
PM Oli to seek vote of confidence on July 21
Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli is seeking a vote of confidence in the House of Representatives on July 21, Sunday.
CPN-UML Chief Whip Mahesh Kumar Bartaula said that July 21 has been determined as the date on which Prime Minister Oli will be seeking a vote of confidence in the House of Representatives, the lower house of the Federal Parliament.
UML Chair KP Sharma Oli was appointed the Prime Minister on July 14 in accordance with Article 76(2) of the Constitution of Nepal.
The UML Parliamentary Party leader Oli became the Prime Minister for the fourth time with the support of the Nepali Congress, the largest party in the House of Representatives.
He is seeking a vote of confidence in accordance with Article 76 (4) of the Constitution which requires that the Prime Minister appointed on the backing of two or more parties should take the vote of confidence in the House of Representatives within 30 days.
UML issues whip to vote against PM Dahal in floor test
The CPN-UML has issued a whip to all its members in the House of Representatives (HoR) to mandatorily attend a session of the lower house scheduled for July 12 and to vote against Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal.
The Prime Minister is scheduled to seek a vote of confidence in the HoR session on July 12.
He decided to seek a confidence vote after major ruling partner UML withdrew its support to the government following the recent agreement with the Nepali Congress to form a new government.
The whip was issued by party's Chief Whip Mahesh Kumar Bartaula.
Cabinet meeting: PM Dahal says he will seek vote of confidence within 30 days as per constitutional provisions
Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal is preparing to seek a vote of confidence within 30 days as per the constitutional provisions.
During the Cabinet meeting held on Thursday, Prime Minister Dahal informed that he will seek a vote of confidence from the Parliament as per the legal provisions, government spokesperson and Minister for Communications and Information Technology Rekha Sharma said.
"The government will not resign and will also not cross 30 days. The Prime Minister will face the Parliament according to the constitutional provisions. He does not have any plans to resign, " she said, adding, "Though the date for seeking a vote of confidence has not been fixed yet, he will take a vote of confidence as soon as possible."
The Dahal-led government faced a crisis after the Nepali Congress and CPN-UML announced that they will form a national consensus government.
The ruling coalition partner UML had withdrawn its support extended to the government on Wednesday.
The eight ministers of the UML tendered their resignation on Wednesday itself.
Both the parties--Nepali Congress and CPN-UML--have been urging the Prime Minister to put in papers and pave the way for forming a national government.
Issuing a statement on Thursday, UML General Secretary Shankar Pokharel urged Prime Minister Dahal not to make any decisions that will have long-term effect.
Gandaki Chief Minister Pandey wins vote of confidence
Gandaki Province Chief Minister Surendra Raj Pandey has secured a vote of confidence in the provincial assembly on Friday.
Pandey secured 31 votes while 28 votes were cast against the vote of confidence motion.
A total of 59 Province Assembly members were present in the meeting.
Speaker Krishna Prasad Dhital announced that Pandey secured a vote of confidence.
He was appointed as the chief minister as a leader of the largest party in accordance with Article 168 (3) of the Constitution of Nepal.
Nepali Congress, Rastriya Prajatantra Party, Nepal Socialist Party and independent lawmakers cast their votes in favor of Pandey.
PM needs to seek vote of confidence for fourth time
Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has to take a vote of confidence for the fourth time.
He had to seek a vote of confidence for the fourth time after the Janata Samajbadi Party Nepal-led by Upendra Yadav withdrew support extended to the government.
The Janata Samajbadi Party Nepal decided to withdraw support to the government as the party was feeling uncomfortable to work together with the ruling coalition parties remaining in the government, JSPN spokesperson Manish Suman said.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Health and Population Upendra Yadav and Minister of State for Health and Population Deepak Karki resigned from their post on Monday morning.
There is a constitutional provision that the prime minister should seek a vote of confidence within 30 days if the party participating in the government withdraws the support.
Prime Minister Dahal sought a vote of confidence for the time on January 10, 2023, second time on March 20, 2023 and third time on March 13, 2024.
He was appointed as the Prime Minister on December 25, 2022.
Bagmati Province CM Jamarkattel secures vote of confidence for third time
Bagmati Province Chief Minister Shalikram Jamarkattel secured a vote of confidence for the third time on Monday.
Jamarkattel sought a vote of confidence in a meeting of the Province Assembly today after the Nepali Congress withdrew its support to the provincial government.
A total of 56 members voted in favor of the trust vote while 37 lawmakers stood against it. Fifteen lawmakers stayed neutral.
He sought a vote of confidence for the first time on January 17, 2023 and second time on March 24, 2023.
NC issues whip to its lawmakers to vote against incumbent government
The main opposition party, Nepali Congress (NC), has issued a whip to its lawmakers to vote against the confidence motion to be presented in the House of Representatives by Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal.
NC Chief Whip Ramesh Lekhak, through a note today, issued the directive to the party's lawmakers to mandatorily be physically present in the meeting of the House of Representatives convening at 11 am on March 13, and to vote against the PM's proposal seeking the vote of confidence.
Prime Minister Dahal is scheduled to present a proposal in the meeting of the House of Representatives slated for 11 am on March 13, seeking a vote of confidence.
UML moves SC against Koshi Province CM Thapa’s vote of confidence
The CPN-UML has moved the Supreme Court against the vote of confidence taken unconstitutionally by Koshi Province Chief Minister Uddhav Thapa.
The UML filed a writ at the apex court arguing that Thapa sought the vote of confidence against the Constitution.
UML Koshi Province Parliamentary Party leader and former Chief Minister Hikmat Kumar Karki along with other leaders had reached the Supreme Court to register the writ.
Speaker Israel Mansuri had also cast his vote while Thapa, also the Nepali Congress Koshi Province Parliamentary Party leader, was seeking a vote of confidence.
There is a provision that the Speaker cannot vote to form a new government. The Speaker can cast a decisive vote if there is a tie.
UML Koshi Province Parliamentary Party Chief Whip Rewati Raman Bhandari said that the process of filing a petition in the Supreme Court has been taken ahead as the Chief Minister took the vote of confidence by violating the Constitution.
“We have given the writ. It is in the process of registration. The vote of confidence was sought against the Constitution, law and parliamentary practice. Our demand that it should be annulled,” he said.
Thapa was appointed as the Chief Minister on August 1.
He sought the vote of confidence from the Province Assembly on Monday.
