Human trafficking is on the rise, work cautiously: Home Minister Lekhak tells immigration officials

Minister for Home Affairs Ramesh Lekhak has expressed commitment to extend support in formulation of Acts and laws related to immigration.

After inspecting the Department of Immigration today, Home Minister Lekhak directed the Department to submit acts, rules, procedure and regulations at the Home Ministry within a month.

He also instructed the Department to forward the process for the establishment of immigration offices at Tinkar of Darchula and Korala of Mustang.

Saying allegations of involvement of immigration staff in human trafficking activities be untrue, the Home Minister warned of taking stern action if found guilty.

He further said that human trafficking is on the rise and directed the immigration officials to act cautiously.

Minister Lekhak asked concerned employees to behave well with all passengers.

Laying emphasis on the need of operating immigration offices in full-capacity, Home Secretary Ek Narayan Aryal mentioned the Department should carry out activities coordinating with all government bodies.

He pointed out the need for collaboration and coordination among the Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Ministry and the line offices.

Similarly, Director General of the Department, Kosh Hari Niraula said performance as per the Immigration Act, 2049, Immigration Regulations, 2059 and Immigration Procedure, 2065 was challenging in the changed context.

 

Nepal committed to One-China policy: Home Minister Lekhak

Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Chen Song called on Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak on Monday.

The Chinese Ambassador had reached Singha Durbar this afternoon to meet the Home Minister.

Stating that the relations between Nepal and China had always been cordial, Minister Lekhak expressed his confidence that the bilateral relations would be further expanded and strengthened in the coming days.

Minister Lekhak, acknowledging China as an important development partner in the development of infrastructures in Nepal, extended his gratitude towards China for its support in the capacity enhancement of the Nepal Police and Armed Police Force, Nepal as well as in Nepal's bid for development.

The Minister also reaffirmed Nepal's commitment to One-China Principle and expressed Nepal's commitment towards not allowing any of its land to be used against its neighboring countries, according to the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Similarly, Chinese envoy Song believed that the friendly and diplomatic relations between Nepal and China would be further strengthened in the coming days.

He noted that there were many similarities between Nepal and China including cultural ones, the Ministry said.

On the occasion, he pledged to coordinate efforts with the government of Nepal in border management, combating cross-border crimes and protecting the citizens of both countries.

Furthermore, the Chinese envoy asserted that the government of China would provide the utmost support to Nepal to further strengthen the immigration administration.

 

PM Dahal asked to brief House about his India visit

Nepali Congress Chief Whip Ramesh Lekhak has demanded Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal to brief the House about his recent India visit.

Speaking in an emergency hour of today's meeting of the House of Representatives (HoR), Chief Whip Lekhak shared that the Prime Minister should inform the House while embarking to any friendly nation in the parliamentary practice

"The Prime Minister embarked on a two-day India visit on June 9. He has not yet briefed the House about his visit even though five days passed. As the leader of the opposition, I had to remind the Prime Minister that he is the leader of the House," he said.

Prime Minister Dahal had embarked on a two-day India visit on June 9 to attend the swearing -in ceremony of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for third tenure. 

Stating that President Ram Chandra Paudel had left for Switzerland on June 11 to participate in the 112th session of the International Labor Conference, NC leader Lekhak explained that it is not good for the House to get information about the visit of the President and Prime Minister by reading the newspaper.

He underlined that not only the Head of the State and Prime Minister, but there is a practice in some of the countries that ministers also go in foreign visits informing the House when the House is in session.

 

Cooperation between major parties necessary to take the country towards stability: Lekhak

Nepali Congress Chief Whip Ramesh Lekhak said that consensus, cooperation and dialogue will be necessary to protect the country from instability and to strengthen the federal democratic republic.

In a press conference organized by the Nepal Press Union Kanchanpur chapter in Mahendranagar today, he noted that there is dissatisfaction within the CPN-UML in the current government and expressed his own doubts about the present ruling power equation.

"There is a strong opinion within the Nepali Congress and UML that big parties should form the government together," he said, adding that people are also of the opinion that big parties should take the country in the right direction. However, there is no concrete progress about power sharing between Congress and UML, he said.

Even if it is not for running the government, cooperation and discussion between major parties is necessary for leading the country towards stability, to protect the constitution and to strengthen democracy, he said.

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'himself has expressed a positive opinion about investigation into cooperative sectors and said that the Congress is also positive about it.

NC leader Lekhak said that the Congress will always stand firm in its stance of forming a parliamentary probe committee to investigate fraud charges against Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane.

"We have not demanded resignation, but investigation,” he said, adding “He is confident that the matter will be addressed before the Parliament meeting scheduled for May 10.”
