Vehicular movement resumes in Kaligandaki Corridor
Vehicular movement in the Kaligandaki Corridor, which was blocked since last Friday evening following a landslide, has resumed from today morning.
According to the District Police Office, Baglung, the Corridor was completely blocked when a landslide fell in the road along the Corridor Kalakhola of Baglung Municipality-12 in Baglung district at around 7 PM.
Police Inspector Keshav Thapa shared that the Corridor reopened today morning around 10 AM after clearing off the debris using a machine.The southern side of the Baglung district had remained disconnected due to the blockage in the Corridor, one of the national pride projects.
With the Corridor reopened, vehicles traveling to Mustang and Butwal, Bhairahawa and Sunauli among others plying the road along the Corridor have moved towards their destinations, said Inspector Thapa.
According to him, efforts were made to reopen the blocked road last night itself but no avail due to torrential rain. Moreover, landslide falling in the road continuously had hindered the effort.
The debris was removed today morning allowing the stranded passengers head towards their destinations. (RSS)
Japan issues heavy rain emergency in Kagoshima
Japan’s weather agency has issued its highest-level heavy rain warning for Kirishima in Kagoshima Prefecture after record downpours triggered fears of landslides, flooding, and overflowing rivers, according to Xinhua.
Kirishima recorded 107.5 mm of rain in one hour early Friday, with a 12-hour total of over 480 mm — nearly double its August average.
Torrential rain is forecast to continue across Kyushu through Sunday, with up to 200 mm expected in southern areas and 120 mm in the north. Authorities have urged residents to stay alert as dangerous conditions may already be present, Xinhua reported.
Landslide obstructs Baglung-Burtibang road
The Baglung-Burtibang road section along the Mid Hill Highway has been blocked following a landslide at Badigad Rural Municipality-2, Kharbang.
Police Inspector at the District Police Office, Baglung, Keshab Thapa informed that the road has been blocked since this morning.
Vehicles moving from West Baglung, Rolpa, Rukum, Jajarkot, Dolpa and Gulmi to Pokhara and Kathmandu have been stranded mid-way due to road disruption.
Heavy rainfall has hampered the efforts to resume road operations, Inspector Thapa added.
Landslide disrupts Mid Hill Highway
A dry landslide that occurred at Bimire Bhanjyang in Madhyanepal Municipality-10 along the Mid Hill Highway this morning has completely disrupted the road.
Police said that there is no situation right now to remove the debris with the landslide continuing.
Vehicles to and from Pokhara are being operated via the alternative routes of Kaure, Bangre and Chautara of Thansing Danda after the road disruption.
Police Inspector at the Area Police Office, Bhorletar, Yam Narayan Aryal, informed that it may take time to clear the landslide debris.
Landslide obstructs Dang-Salyan road section
The Dang-Salyan road section along the Rapti Highway has been obstructed due to a landslide triggered by a heavy rainfall at Kapurkot, the border point of Dang and Salyan districts.
Tankeshwor Bhattarai, Chief at the Kapurkot Police Post, said that vehicular movement along the route has been completely obstructed from early morning today due to a landslide.
Bhattarai said that the landslide occurred at Kapurkot Rural Municipality-3 in Salyan district and added that efforts are underway to clear the debris..
People have been told to use alternative routes and apply precautions in the wake of road obstruction and landslides.
Up to 129 mm of rain in Jhapa in 24 hours
Up to 129 mm of rain has been measured to have taken place in different places of Jhapa including Anarmani, Chandragadhi and Kechana in the last 24 hours.
As a result, residents living in coastal areas of Kachankawal, Bardashi, Jhapa, Gauriganj and Kankai municipalities have been urged to remain alert.
Sirens installed with the help of the National Disaster Risk Reduction Authority in Bhagdubba of Bardashi Rural Municipality-3 and Pindalbari of Kachankawal Rural Municipality-5 have started sounding.

Kankai Municipality Mayor Rajendra Kumar Pokharel said that the level of water in the Kankai River in the municipal area is high and the surrounding areas have been put on alert.

Heavy rains trigger deadly landslide and flood warnings in Northern China
A landslide caused by intense rainfall has killed four people and left eight missing near Chengde in Hebei province, Xinhua reported.
In Beijing’s Miyun district, over 4,400 people were evacuated as floods and landslides hit villages, cutting power to more than 10,000 residents.
Flood alerts have been issued in at least 11 provinces, including Beijing and Shanxi, with more heavy rain expected in the coming days.
Authorities have sent emergency teams to Hebei and allocated 50m yuan ($7m) for recovery. Scientists link the surge in extreme weather to climate change and the intensifying East Asian monsoon, according to Xinhua.
Dry landslide obstructs Beni-Jomsom road section
The Beni-Jomsom road section that connects Mustang district to the national highway has been obstructed due to a dry landside on Sunday.
Vehicular movement has come to a standstill following the dry landslide that took place at Ghoptebhir area, the border of Annapurna Rural Municipality in Myagdi district and Thasang Rural Municipality in Mustang district.
Efforts are underway to resume the traffic by clearing the landslide debris, said Tej Bahadur Kumal, the Chief of the Sapma Police Post, Ghansa.
Following the road obstruction, the direct transport network of Mustang district has been disconnected.
Locals as well as tourists visiting Mustang district and returning from Mustang have been affected due to the road obstruction.
People heading towards Mustang have been stopped at Kavre of Myagdi while those arriving at Myagdi from Mustang at Ghansa.
Landslide in northern Pakistan kills 3, 15 missing
At least three people were killed and fifteen are missing after a landslide, triggered by heavy monsoon rains, hit Gilgit-Baltistan’s Diamer district on Monday, officials said.
Rescue teams recovered bodies and evacuated four injured, while efforts continue to locate the missing. Hundreds of stranded tourists were also brought to safety, Al Jazeera reported.
The monsoon has caused widespread damage across Pakistan, with 221 deaths reported since late June.

Landslide, flood obstruct Jomsom-Korala road
The Jomsom-Korala roadway linking Upper Mustang has been completely obstructed since this morning due to a landslide and flood following incessant rainfall.

Landslide buries couple in Parbat, husband found dead
The body of the husband of a couple, who went missing after a landslide buried a house at Langdi in Deurali of Modi Rural Municipality-3, Parbat on Sunday, has been found.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Rabin Bista of the District Police Office, Parbat informed that locals and security personnel found the body of 78-year-old Chhabilal Bishwakarma buried this afternoon.
Police are searching for Bishnumati who also went missing along with Chhabilal.
The landslide triggered by heavy rainfall buried their house this morning.
BP Highway to remain closed for 12 hours at night for a month
The Kavrepalanchowk road section along the BP Highway is to remain closed for 12 hours at night for a month.
The District Administration Office, Kavrepalanchowk has confirmed the closure of traffic from Kavrebhanjyang to Nepalthok, the border with Sindhuli, for one month, bearing in mind the increased risk of landslides and floods during the active monsoon season.
The closure will be enforced from 5 pm to 5 am, said Chief District Officer of Kavrepalanchowk, Umesh Kumar Dhakal.
Previously, a meeting of the inter-district coordination committee of Kavrepalanchowk, Sindhuli, and Ramechhap districts had decided to close the highway from 6:30pm to 5 am, beginning on June 21.
In the past week alone, floods and landslides have already disrupted this section four times.
The devastating flooding caused by unseasonal downpours in September 2024 had significantly damaged the BP Highway, particularly from Chaukidanda of Kavrepalanchowk to Barshekhola of Sindhuli. An eight-kilometre section was swept away by the flood.
Of the total 160-km highway, 34 kilometres on the third section from Khurkot to Nepalthok of Sindhuli and 50 kilometres on the fourth section from Nepalthok to Dhulikhel of Kavrepalanchowk were damaged at various locations.
Contracts have begun for restoring the highway in four sections, it has been said.
As the shortest route connecting the Kathmandu Valley with eastern Nepal, the highway sees the movement of thousands of vehicles each day.

The landslides occurred at three places along BP Highway obstructed vehicular movement on Monday night.
The District Police Office informed that efforts were on since early this morning to clear debris and repair the damaged road stretch to resume the vehicular movement..
The landslides occurred at Mamti of Roshi Rural Municipality-11, Khahare Khola and Biruwadanda of Roshi-9, according to the Information Officer at District Police Office Min Bahadur Ghale.
He informed that efforts were on to resume vehicular movement by clearing debris with the coordination of local people's representatives.
Landslide obstructs Kaligandaki corridor
Vehicular movement along the Kaligandaki corridor has been obstructed due to a landslide at Dablyang in Baglung Municipality-10.
According to Basanta Pandey, Public Information Officer of the Baglung Police, a landslide triggered by heavy rainfall since Tuesday evening completely disrupted the corridor.
There is a least chance of road clearance immediately as the rain has not stopped, he said.
