The Kathmandu District Court has extended the investigation period of former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and former Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak by five days.
A bench of justice led by Anand Shrestha granted the remand, allowing police to keep both leaders in custody for further investigation. The Public Prosecutor’s Office had earlier requested a 10-day extension.
Oli and Lekhak were arrested on Saturday following the implementation of a recommendation made by an inquiry commission formed to investigate the incident of Sept 8 and 9.
Before being presented in a court, Lekhak was taken to the Public Prosecutor’s Office, while Oli appeared virtually due to health issues. Oli is currently at Teaching Hospital for treatment and Lekhal remains in custody at Battalion No. 2, Maharajgunj.
The inquiry commission, coordinated by Gauri Bahadur Karki, concluded that both Oli and Lekhak were responsible for the incident and recommended further investigation under criminal charges.
