An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.4 occurred in northern Chile on Friday around 1:15 p.m. local time, approximately 950 km north of Santiago and 54 km south of Diego de Almagro in the Atacama area. The quake occurred at a depth of 65 km and was felt in nearby towns, according to Associated Press.
There were reports of power outages but no fatalities. Authorities are evaluating the extent of the damage to vital services and infrastructure. There is no chance of a tsunami, according to Chile's Navy.
The seismically active Pacific Ring of Fire is where Chile is located, Associated Press reported.
