Sanjeev Nepali: Dedication to Taekwondo
Sanjeev Nepali, hailing from Bara, Nijgadh, has achieved global recognition in the sport of Taekwondo, proudly representing his nation by raising its flag in various countries around the world. With a deep-seated passion for Taekwondo cultivated over many years, Nepali is dedicated to fostering and enhancing the sport’s growth for as long as possible. His journey into Taekwondo began during his school days when his slender yet tall stature caught the attention of his uncle, Gokul Nepali, who encouraged him to pursue this martial art.
His official journey as a Taekwondo athlete commenced in 1998, and even when he pursued higher education in Kathmandu, he never abandoned his commitment to Taekwondo. In the bustling city, he found his training ground at the Jawalakhel Taekwondo Dojang. Not content with honing his own skills, he generously shared his knowledge with students from various schools, extending his passion for the sport beyond personal pursuits.
During this time, Nepali actively participated in a multitude of competitions, ranging from inter-dojang and inter-district events to valley-wide, zonal, and national level contests, as well as selection competitions for national representation. Some competitions saw him clinch medals, while others ended in defeat, but he embraced both victories and losses as integral parts of life, constantly preparing for the challenges that lay ahead.
In 2012, he embarked on a journey to Macau with the dual goals of advancing the sport and carving a career path for himself. His prolonged stay there revolved around sports, where he not only engaged in self-improvement but also trained fellow athletes in collaboration with the Macau Taekwondo Association. He enthusiastically attended various training sessions and seminars, seizing every opportunity to refine his skills.
During his tenure in Macau, Nepali’s Taekwondo journey took him to different corners of the globe. As a 4th Dan Black Belt holder, he actively competed in tournaments within Macau and took on roles as both coach and referee. His participation extended to international competitions held in Hong Kong, Thailand, England, Spain, Japan, Canada, America, and more. A significant achievement was his gold medal win at the British Autumn Open Championship in Manchester, England, in Nov 2019. He also secured a silver medal at the 16th Hong Kong Naples Taekwondo Association Championship in 2018 and a bronze medal at the 20th International Taekwondo Championship in Barcelona, Spain, in 2019. Additionally, he clinched gold at the 22nd Asian Cities Taekwondo Championship in Hong Kong.
Furthermore, he successfully completed a Master’s course in Muju, South Korea, in July 2018. His skills were showcased on the international stage at events such as the US Open in Las Vegas in 2019, and the Canada Open in Sept 2018, as well as the G Rank International Coach Seminar in Sept 2018.
Known for his simplicity, helpful nature, and soft-spoken demeanor, Nepali is resolutely committed to a mission of nurturing talented athletes. His ultimate goal is to produce exceptional players capable of earning medals in both national and international competitions. In his words, “My aim and objective is to produce good players. I aspire to contribute to the growth and expansion of Taekwondo by developing athletes who can excel in national and international arenas.”
