Gita Chaudhary of Nepali Congress has been elected as the mayor of Surunga Municipality, Saptari with a margin of 3, 075 votes.
Chaudhary, who won with a wide margin, garnered 7, 292 votes while her rival Ram Narayan Chaudhary received 4, 217 votes.
With the win, she became the first female mayor of Saptari.
Similarly, Rudra Bahadur Karki of Nepali Congress has been elected as the deputy mayor with 6, 275 votes. His closest contender Sunita Mukhiya of CPN (Unified Socialist) received 3, 998 votes.
