Impeachment motion filed against CJ Rana tabled in Parliament

The impeachment motion filed against suspended Chief Justice Choldendra Shumsher JB Rana has been tabled in Parliament on Sunday.

CPN (Maoist Centre) Chief Whip Dev Gurung tabled the motion in the Parliament this afternoon.

Saying that the last place to resolve the deadlock from the court was the Parliament, he was of the opinion that Chief Justice Rana did not abide by the jurisdiction of the Constitution.

“Chief Justice was appointed as per the Constitution. The court has been obstructed. The court could not deliver justice,” he said.

Maoist Centre Chief Justice Rana, Nepali Congress Whip Pushpa Bhusal and CPN (Unified Socialist) Chief Whip Jeeven Ram Shrestha had filed an impeachment motion against Chief Justice Rana on February 13.

Chief Justice Rana has been accused of failing to perform his judicial duties.

As many as 98 lawmakers from the ruling coalition registered a motion of impeachment against Chief Justice Rana at the Parliament Secretariat on February 13.
