ACC Men's U-16 East Zone Cricket Cup: Nepal defeat Bhutan by 298 runs, enter semi-final

Nepal defeated Bhutan by 298 runs in the final group match held today under ACC Men's U-16 East Zone Cricket Cup. 

Winning the toss, Nepal decided to bat first in the match held at Selangor Turf Club Ground in Malaysia and scored 358 runs at the loss of five wickets in the allotted 50 overs. 

For Nepal, Raunak Shrivastava scored highest 168 runs off 132 balls. Similarly, Joy Thapa made 61 runs (not out), Shivans Bajgain 54 runs and Sugam Budhathoki 35 runs. 

For the bowling side, Sangay Dorji of Bhutan took three wickets while Tenzin Loday claimed one wicket.

Chasing the target of 359 runs posted by Nepal, Bhutan mustered only  60 runs by losing nine wickets in 32.4 overs.  

For Bhutan, Tshezang Dawa scored 14 runs and Ugyan Chophel 10 runs.

For Nepali bowling side, Captain Bipin Prasad Sharma took four wickets while Sachin Bhatta and Suyog Bhattarai claimed two wickets each. 

Nepal entered the semi-final remaining on the top of Group 'A' winning all four matches. 

Nepal will play the semi-final against host Malaysia on 

 Thursday.

 

Chelsea beat Benfica in extra time after two-hour storm delay

Chelsea beat 10-man Benfica thanks to three late extra-time goals in an extraordinary Club World Cup last-16 match that lasted more than four hours and included a near two-hour delay for extreme weather, BBC reported.

Goals from Christopher Nkunku, Pedro Neto and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall in the second half of extra time in Charlotte, North Carolina eventually saw Chelsea through to the quarter-finals. 

The Premier League side had been heading for an uneventful victory, with Reece James' brilliant near-post free-kick in the 64th minute looking like the winner.

However, with just four minutes left, players were taken off the pitch due to thunderstorms in the area and, when the teams eventually returned after nearly two hours, Benfica scored with their first shot on target to take the game into extra time, according to BBC.

Angel di Maria, playing his final game for Benfica, converted from the penalty spot in the 94th minute after a Chelsea handball to make it 1-1.

Benfica beat Bayern Munich 1-0 to take the top spot in Group C in the Club World Cup

Andreas Schjelderup scored in the 13th minute to give Benfica a 1-0 victory over Bayern Munich on Tuesday, sending the Portuguese club to the top of Group C in the Club World Cup, Associated Press reported.

The loss dropped Bayern Munich to second place in the group. Boca Juniors was eliminated from contention by the result.

Bayern suffered its first loss of the tournament as it struggled to find a rhythm ahead of the knockout stages later this week.

The game was marked by high heat with temperatures reaching 97 degrees Fahrenheit (36 Celsius), according to Associated Press.

PSG beat Seattle to reach Club World Cup last 16

Paris St-Germain beat Seattle Sounders to seal their place in the Fifa Club World Cup knockout stages, BBC reported.

The European champions win Group B and will play the runners-up of Group A - which is likely to be Palmeiras or Inter Miami.

Their opening goal had a hint of fortune to it with Vitinha's 20-yard first-time drive heading off target before hitting Khvicha Kvaratskhelia on the back and going in.

They added a second on the counter with Achraf Hakimi slamming in from Bradley Barcola's pass.

PSG deserved their victory in Seattle with Desire Doue forcing three stops from Sounders keeper Stefan Frei, according to BBC.
