PM Dahal announces Rs 300, 000 reward each to winning Nepali cricket players

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has announced a cash prize of Rs 300,000 each to the Nepali cricket players for securing a berth at the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Qualifiers. The Prime Minister announced the award while honoring the winning cricket players at his official residence in Baluwatar this morning. “I am very much happy by the performance you performed yesterday. This is not only your winThis is the victory of the country. May you perform well in the future also. I wish you all the best in advance,” he said. “May you get success in the World Cup Qualifiers. I will be with you in sad and happy times,” PM Dahal said, adding, “The government had provided Rs 200, 000 each to the Nepali cricket players earlier also. Today, I announced to provide Rs 300, 000 each to you.” On the occasion, he directed the National Sports Council to install lights and score boards in the Kirtipur-based TU Cricket Ground. The Prime Minister said, "I on behalf of the government express commitment to make necessary arrangements to accelerate construction of under construction cricket grounds at different places of the country including Mulpani and Chitwan." Nepal defeated the UAE by nine runs to secure a place at the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Qualifiers on Thursday. The game was decided by Duckworth-Lewis (DL) method as the second innings had to be reduced to 44 overs due to bad light.

Nepal thump PNG by 9 wickets

Nepal hammered Papua New Guinea (PNG) by nine wickets in the final tri-series of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup League 2 held at the TU cricket ground in Kirtipur on Monday. Nepal chased down the target of 96 runs set by PNG in 7.6 overs by losing just one wicket. Opener Asif Sheikh scored unbeaten 53 runs off 21 balls hitting eight boundaries and three sixes. Kushal Bhurten scored 33 runs of 14 balls. Similarly, Kushal Malla made 12 runs off 13 balls. Nepal won the toss and invited PNG to bat first. PNG were bundled out in 32 overs. Lalit Rajbansi of Nepal claimed two wickets. Likewise, Kushal Malla took wickets and Sompal Kami claimed one wicket. Sese Bau returned to the pavilion by scoring 18 runs while Hiri Hiri made 14 runs. Similarly, captain Assad Vala made 20 runs and Charles Amini scored 16 runs. Nepal will lock their horns with the UAE on Thursday.

Sandeep Lamichhane leaves for the UAE to play ICC World Cup League 2

Rape-accused cricketer Sandeep Lamichhane has left for the UAE to play ICC World Cup Cricket League 2 on Wednesday. Lamichhane will replace Shyam Dhakal (Mausam) of the Nepali team as he got injured during the practice session, the Nepal Cricket Association (CAN) said. The CAN sent Lamichhane to the UAE after the Supreme Court allowed him to go abroad.      

Nepal defeat Malaysia by 10 wickets

Nepal thrashed Malaysia by 10 wickets in a match played today under the ICC U-19 Men's World Cup Asia Qualifiers tournament underway in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). With this victory, Nepal registered the fourth consecutive win in this tournament. Before this, Nepal defeated Singapore, Kuwait and Hong Kong. In the match played at the Maleka Cricket Stadium in UAE today, Nepal achieved the 73-run target in nine overs without losing any wickets. Nepal's both openers were not out. Deepak Bohara scored 38 runs while Arjun Kumal made 21 runs. Malaysia, who won the toss and elected to bat first, scored 72 runs in 35.3 overs, losing all wickets. Akram Malek made 26 runs while Mohammad Harrison and Mohammad Syahir Syamil scored 12 runs each. Deepesh Kadel of Nepal took four wickets while Akash Chand claimed Malaysian Similarly, Milan Bohara and Subash Bhandari took two and one wickets respectively. Nepal will play their last match against the UAE on March 2. Along with Nepal, Singapore, Kuwait, Hong Kong, Malaysia and the hosts UAE are taking part in the tournament. The winner of this tournament being held on the Round-Robin basis will qualify for the U-19 World Cup Championship to be held in Sri Lanka in 2024.
