EU begins gradual rollout of digital border system
European Union member countries began rolling out a new entry and exit system on Sunday at the bloc’s external borders, electronically registering non-EU nationals' data, Reuters reported.
The Entry/Exit System (EES), an automated system that requires travellers to register at the border by scanning their passport and having their fingerprints and photograph taken, will be introduced over six months.
The move is aimed at detecting overstayers, tackling identity fraud and preventing illegal migration amid political pressure in some EU countries to take a tougher stance, according to Reuters.
Gaza residents stream back home amid first phase of US-brokered Israel-Hamas ceasefire
Thousands of Palestinians streamed north along the coast of Gaza on Saturday, trekking by foot, car, and cart back to their abandoned homes as a ceasefire between Israel and the Palestinian terrorist group Hamas appeared to be holding, Reuters reported.
Israeli troops pulled back under the first phase of a US-brokered agreement reached this week to end the war, which has killed tens of thousands of people and left much of Gaza in ruins.
"It is an indescribable feeling; praise be to God," said Nabila Basal as she traveled by foot with her daughter, who she said had suffered a head wound in the war. "We are very, very happy that the war has stopped, and the suffering has ended."

Drone strike in besieged Sudan city kills dozens
Dozens of people have been killed in a drone strike at a displacement shelter in el-Fasher, a besieged Sudanese city on the brink of collapse, activists said, BBC reported.
The resistance committee for el-Fasher, made up of local citizens and activists, said the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) hit Dar al-Arqam camp, located within a university, with two drone strikes and eight artillery shells. The RSF has denied it carried out the strike.
"Children, women and the elderly were killed in cold blood, and many were completely burned," a statement from the group said.
Eyewitnesses described scenes of panic as rescuers pulled bodies from the rubble, according to BBC.
