EC seeks clarification from CPN (MC) Chair Dahal

The Election Commission has asked clarification from CPN (Maoist Center) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal for breaching the election code of conduct. The poll body sought clarification from former Prime Minister Dahal after he was found using panchebaja (traditional musical instruments) while going to file his candidacy in Gorkha-2. It is mentioned in the election code of conduct that the candidates cannot use musical instruments while going to register nominations. The EC has directed him to furnish clarification within seven days.      

NC rebel candidates expelled from party for five years

The Nepali Congress has expelled rebel candidates, who have filed their nominations in the elections to House of Representatives and Province Assembly, for five years. The party decided to expel the candidates, who have refused to withdraw their candidacies filed against the official candidates within the given time frame, their proposers and supporters for five years. The NC made such a decision against the candidates who have filed their candidacies against the agreement made among the ruling coalition parties in the elections. They have been expelled for five years as per Article 34 (4) (Ka) for violating Article 34 (1) (Gha) of the statute of the party.  

Mahendra Raya Yadav official candidate of coalition in Sarlahi-2

The ruling alliance has said that Mahendra Raya Yadav is its official candidate in Sarlahi-2. A meeting of the alliance held at Baluwatar on Wednesday decided on the official candidates for Sarlahi-2 and 2 (1 and 2) for the Province Assembly. Mahendra Raya Yadav has been nominated as the official candidate in Sarlahi-2 for the election to the House of Representative and Sunil Sah and Kaushal Raya Yadav in Sarlahi 2 (1) and 2 (2) for Province Assembly, read a statement. Meanwhile, Rajendra Mahot is also contesting the election in the same constituency from the Democratic Socialist Party (DSP).  

Election observers siding with parties, candidates not acceptable: EC Chief Thapaliya

Chief Election Commissioner Dinesh Kumar Thapaliya said it would not be acceptable for election observers to be siding with or going against any parties or candidates in the November 20 elections. He referred to some past election incidents wherein some election observers sided with parties or candidates. He was inaugurating a training session for election observers for the election to the House of Representatives and the Province Assembly here today. He urged them to help the Election Commission to conclude the elections by following the election code of conduct, 2079 as election observers are an important part of the polls. All political parties, civil society, mass communications and all sectors have an important role in making elections a success as it reawakens citizens' rights and strengthens democracy. Similarly, joint secretary and EC's spokesperson Shaligram Paudel urged election observer organizations to train the observers mobilized for the polls to abide by the poll code of conduct. Election observers from 43 organizations have taken the session.
