Eating Out | Great deals and steals at Mojo

Nestled in a quiet neighborhood in Baneswor Heights (Mid-Baneswor), locating the Mojo Boutique Hotel is not so easy at first. So we recommend you use Google Maps or call the hotel to guide you there. But once you’ve found the Mojo, you’ll start finding reasons to get back there, again and again.

We know you want to sit outdoors and Mojo’s garden area is perfect for you to have your breakfast, lunch, dinner or snacks. The multi-cuisine restaurant offers a wide variety of food and drinks at reasonable prices. As if that was not enough, Mojo is also known to throw in lucrative offers for its guests to make their visit more exciting and easy on the pockets. Where else in Kathmandu can you have a lavish breakfast buffet for Rs 200?

Eating Out | The quietly popular Michaels Grill

Michaels Grill might not be the most popular restaurant in town but it seems like everyone knows about it or has at least heard about it, especially after the recent lockdown. In its new location at mid-Baneshwor (opposite APEX college), Michaels Grill offers both indoor and outdoor seating in a lo-fi, homely ambience that makes its customers, mostly youngsters, feel at home.

As for the food, the restaurant stays true to its name and serves a delightful assortment of meaty grills and vegetarian choices too. MG mainly specializes in sekuwas (local-style barbecued meat) and the rest of the menu is like your regular multi-cuisine cuisine, at prices almost as affordable as Kathmandu’s street food. Dedicated parking for both two- and four-wheelers makes this a favorite joint of many.

In Focus | ‘Calm’ after the storm

The ‘second wave’ of covid had us shutting ourselves for months again. Now that everything around us is opening, including restaurants and cafes, we still advise you to exercise caution and try to limit your excursions to outdoor venues only.

Talking about outdoor venues, we highly recommend our favorite ‘Calm’ at Tangalwood. The host for two editions of ‘The Annapurna Express Music Festival,’ Calm is now a redesigned restaurant under new management that offers a unique selection of food, drinks and desserts. The multicuisine restaurant has been exploring fusion food and by the reviews we’ve read, it seems to be working.

The best part, almost 70 percent of its seating arrangement is outdoors and it has plenty of parking space to accommodate your rides even on the busiest days.

Not open for breakfast yet, Calm is an excellent choice for brunches, afternoon snacks and even late-night dinners.

In Focus | Upscaling Newa cuisine at Patan

Patan Durbar Square has always been a hotspot for tourists and locals alike. But previously, eating out in the area was polarized. You either went to small local bhattis to get a taste of traditional Newa cuisine or opted for the more expensive, tourist-centered restaurants. There was no in-between.

The recently opened “Newa Ghasa” at Kuti Saugal, Patan (just two-minute walk from the Durbar Square) plans to change that. The moderately-priced restaurant specializes in authentic Newa cuisine and is a blend of modern and traditional.

With multiple seating possibilities that could accommodate almost 80-100 guests at the same time, Newa Ghasa also features live music in the weekends at its outdoor courtyard. The Newari restaurant has recently opened another branch at Sohrakhutte, Kathmandu.
