Light to moderate rainfall likely to occur today
The weather will be partly to generally cloudy throughout the country with chances of light to moderate rain at some places today, the Department of hydrology and Meteorology said.
There is possibility of light to moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning at some places of the hilly region and at a few places of the rest of the regions.
The Department said that the low pressure trough is located slightly south of the normal position in the west and it is in the normal position in the east.
The weather is partly to generally cloudy at present and light to moderate rain is taking place at some places of Province no 1, Madhes, Bagmati, Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces. It will be partly to generally cloudy with the possibility of light to moderate rain along with thunder and lightning at some places tonight.
As per the weather update of the Meteorological Forecasting Division, the minimum temperature in Kathmandu Valley was 20.1 degrees Celsius and the maximum 27.5 degrees Celsius in the last 24 hours.
33 people injured as bus catches fire in Daunne
Thirty-three passengers were injured when a bus caught fire at Daunne, Nawalparasi Bardaghat Susta East along the East-West Highway.
The incident occurred at 5:30 am near the Bishwokarma Temple of the Daunne road section at Binayi Triveni rural municipality-2 after the bus met with an accident.
The bus (Na 5 Kha 5100) going towards the east from west veered off and rammed on the hill side to the north, Superintendent of Police Prajjwal Maharjan said. The bus caught fire upon hitting the hillside.
Maharjan said that among the injured passengers six are in serious condition.
Eight of the injured passengers are receiving treatment at the Purano Medical College in Bharatpur while the rest are under medical care at Madhyabindu District Hospital, Danda.
Five taken ill after consuming wild mushroom in Baitadi
Five persons have taken ill after consuming wild mushroom in Baitadi on Tuesday.
Those taken ill are Sunita Joshi (14), Sabita Joshi (12), Kiran Joshi (10), eight-year-old Soniya Joshi and four-year-old Divya Joshi.
They are undergoing treatment at Kesharpur Primary Health Centre in Melauni, said Acting Chief Public Health Inspector Mukesh Kanta Dayal.
All family members had eaten the mushroom brought from the forest.
It has been learnt that they had started vomiting after consuming the mushroom.
SEE results to be published today
The National Examinations Board is all set to publish results of this year’s Secondary Education Examinations (SEE) at 3 pm today.
Examination Controller Arjun Rayamajhi said that necessary preparations have been made for publishing the results today.
“In the previous years, students turned up to amend their date of birth and marks after results publication. Keeping this in mind, we have taken time to thoroughly review all details of students before making it public. It has slightly delayed the process of results publication”, he shared.
He further said that the local elections also caused delay in the preparation for the same.
PATA Nepal to organize 'Nepal Sales Mission-2022' in Thailand
The Nepal chapter of Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) is to organize 'Nepal Sales Mission-2022' in Bangkok, Thailand on August 1.
The PATA is going to organize this event to revive the tourism business hit hardest by the Covid-19 pandemic.
According to PATA Nepal, 20 tourism entrepreneurs, affiliated with PATA Nepal, and professionals would participate in the Mission going to be organized in collaboration with Nepal Airlines Corporation, Thai Travel Agents Association, SS Group Thailand and Jawalakhel Group of Industries.
Similarly, more than 4o tourism associated stakeholders including Thai Travel Agents and Tour Operators, media would also participate in the Mission.
Nepali Ambassador to Thailand Ganesh Prasad Dhakal would be the chief guest of the Nepal Sales Mission where CEO of PATA International, Liz Ortiguera, would participate as the special guest and keynote speaker.
Chairman of PATA Nepal chapter Bibhuti Chand Thakur expressed the belief that the Mission would be the best forum to promote tourism potential between Nepal and Thailand, with Gautam Buddha international Airport already in operation.
Similarly, a Nepali delegation would also participate in the 'Sixth PATA Destination Marketing Forum' to be held in Thailand from August 2-4, read a statement issued by PATA Nepal here today.
President appoints ambassadors to various countries
President Bidya Devi Bhandari has appointed ambassadors of Nepal to various countries in accordance with Article 282 (1) of the Constitution of Nepal and on the recommendation of the Council of Ministers.
President Bhandari has appointed Dr Sharmila Parajuli (Dhakal) the resident ambassador to Spain, Milan Raj Tuladhar the resident ambassador to the Russian Federation, Prof Dr Ram Swartha Raya the resident ambassador to Denmark and Dr Shankar Prasad Sharma, the resident ambassador to India, as the non-resident ambassador to Bhutan also, read a statement issued by the Office of the President, Sheetal Niwas today.
Japan to provide Rs 350 million for human resource development
Nepal will be receiving a grant assistance of Japanese yen 376 million (approximately equivalent to Rs 350 million) from Japan for implementation of the Project for Human Resource Development (JDS) Project in the year 2022/23.
The both parties signed and exchanged the notes to this regard amidst a program at the Ministry of Finance today.
Madhu Kumar Marasini, Finance Secretary and Tamura Takahiro, Charge d’affaires ad interim of Japan to Nepal signed the documents on behalf of their respective Governments.
On the same occasion, grant agreement to this effect was signed by joint-secretary Ishwori Prasad Aryal of International Economic Cooperation Coordination Division, Ministry of Finance and Tanaka Tomoko, Senior Representative, JICA Nepal, the Ministry of Finance said in a press release today.
The Government of Japan has been providing such scholarship grant to the Government of Nepal in a phase-wise manner. Under the first phase of the project, 80 civil servants have already completed their Master’s Degree and returned home.
This grant will be utilized to administer the scholarship program, including for payment of the university tuition fee, living allowances, settlement allowances, insurances and other basic allowances as well as supply of educational materials for 22 candidates (20 for Master’s degree and 2 for PhD degree) to pursue their degrees in various Japanese Universities.
The scholarship provides opportunity of pursuing two years’ Master’s degree and three years PhD courses to young Nepalese civil servants who are academically sound and are motivated to be engaged in Nepal’s socio economic development after completion of their study in Japan.
During the signing ceremony, Finance Secretary Marasini expressed his hope that this scholarship would be instrumental in developing the capacity of civil service. He further stated that the knowledge, skills and the exposure acquired by the civil servants will be instrumental in improving the delivery of public services in Nepal and ultimately contribute to the socio-economic development of Nepal as well as in strengthening the bilateral relation between the two countries.
Similarly, Tamura expected that the JDS graduates will significantly contribute to Nepal’s socio economic development as well as towards further strengthening the long standing bilateral relationship and cooperation between the two countries.
The Government of Nepal expressed its sincere appreciation to the Government of Japan for its generous and continued support to socioeconomic and human resource development of Nepal.
21 trees removed from Sallaghari area after fatal accident
Twenty-one trees were removed from the roadside in Sallaghari of Bhaktapur following the death of three people after being hit by a falling tree on July 24.
On Sunday, a tree accidently fell and crushed a passenger bus (Ba 2 Kha 3584) and a scooter (Ba 61 Pa 3978) in motion, killing three on the spot and leaving 12 injured. Of the deceased, two were the bus passengers while the other was the scooter rider.
According to Chief District Officer of Bhaktapur Rudra Devi Sharma, the trees that were unsafe were cut down following Sunday's fatal accident. The Division Forest Office, Bhaktapur employees marked the vulnerable trees before their removal.
Likewise, the Khwopa Minibus Service Committee has agreed to bear the treatment cost of the injured. Of them, one has been already discharged, and 11 are undergoing treatment at the Dr Iwamura Memorial Hospital Sallaghari and Bhaktapur International Hospital, Kaushaltar,
Scooter rider Raj Kumar Bhujel (45) of Harion-4, Sarlahi, Bishesh Khaburja (25) of Byasi of Bhaktapur Municipality-2 and Nhuchheram Bakhatyo (55) of Bhaktapur municipality-7 were killed in the accident.
