Gold price increases by Rs 1,400 per tola on Wednesday

 

The price of gold increased by Rs 1,400 per tola (11.66 grams) in the domestic market today.

However, the price of silver remained unchanged as compared to yesterday.

The rise in the price of gold in international market and internal demand are among the reasons behind the price-rise, it is said.

According to the Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers' Association, the gold price is being traded at Rs 151,000 per tola on Wednesday. It was traded at Rs 149,600 per tola on Tuesday.

The silver is being traded at Rs 1,765 per tola today.

Weather to remain fair across the country today

 

Presently there is a general influence of westerly wind in the country with foggy weather in many places of the Terai.

According to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, fog has also occurred in the hilly areas of Gandaki province.

The weather, according to the Department, will be partly cloudy in the hilly region and fair in the rest of the country this afternoon.

Likewise, the hilly areas of the far-western province will be partly cloudy while remaining parts of the country will have mainly fair weather.

Fog is likely to occur at many places in the Terai and Kathmandu Valley on Thursday morning, the Department has urged all concerned to remain alert as it may affect daily life, health, transport and aviation.

PM Oli extends New Year greetings

 

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has extended best wishes to all on the occasion of the New Year 2025 today.

Taking to social media, he posted an image of the rising sun and said, "May a beautiful dawn arise in everyone's life! Happy New Year 2025!". 

Nepse plunges by 33. 08 points on Tuesday

The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) plunged by 33. 08 points to close at 2, 576.50 points on Tuesday.

Similarly, the sensitive index dropped by 2. 28 points to close at 444. 71 points.

A total of 13,174,379-unit shares of 308 companies were traded for Rs 5. 67 billion.

Meanwhile, Nadep Laghubittiya bittya Sanstha Ltd. (NADEP) was the top gainer today with its price surging by 4. 01 percent.
Likewise, Support Microfinance Bittiya Sanstha Ltd. (SMB), Janaki Finance Company Limited (JFL) and Pokhara Finance Ltd. (PFL) were the top loser as their price fell by10. 00 percent.

At the end of the day, the total market capitalization stood at Rs 4. 27 trillion.

More than 1.14 million foreign tourists visit Nepal in 2024

 

More than 1.140 million foreign tourists visited Nepal in 2024.

According to data as of this morning, a total of 11,047,024 tourists entered Nepal in one year, said the Nepal Tourism Board.

This is the first year Nepal welcomed the highest number of tourists after coronavirus pandemic.

Board Director Marin Raj Lamichhane said in average 3,000 tourists entered Nepal every day.

The arrival of tourists had increased by more than 14 per cent in 2024 as compared to 2023.

Similarly, 1.197 million foreign tourists had visited Nepal in 2019. The COVID pandemic started in early 2020 had brought the arrival of tourists to a standstill till 2022.

As per the last six-month data of United Nations World Tourism Organisation, Nepal's post COVID tourism has revived by 96 per cent.

The arrival of tourists in Nepal had increased due to Nepal Premier League, Global Buddhist Summit, International Balloon Festival, Dragon Boat Festival as well as other festivals.

4.6 ML earthquake jolts Baitadi

 

A 4.6 magnitude earthquake shook Baitadi district on Tuesday.

According to Chintan Timilsina, Chief at the Surkhet-based Earthquake Measurement Station, the tremor occurred at 7. 54 am with its epicenter at Nwaghar, Sigas Rural Municipality-7, Baitadi.

The tremor was also felt in Bajhang, Dadeldhura and Doti districts.

There are so far no reports of casualties and damage resulting from the earthquake, the District Police Office stated.

WFP provides relief support to 1,200 flood-affected households in Roshi

 

The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) has provided financial support to 1,230 flood-affected families in Roshi Rural Municipality in the district.

The relief support was received through the WFP's Nepal Office, the Roshi Rural Municipality Office said.

Twelve people were killed while 482 houses were completely damaged and 883 houses partially damaged in Roshi rural municipality due to the floods and landslides triggered by incessant rains on September 27 and 28.

The Rural Municipality Chairperson Dinesh Lama said that WFP directly transferred the cash relief support to the beneficiaries' bank account, based on the number of the affected families.

He said the cash has been deposited in the bank account of all the flood and landslide-affected people. It is stated that WFP has provided Rs 15, 000 and Rs 20, 000 in line with the government's policy of distributing the cash relief to the affected families on the basis of the family size.

Lama, the Rural Municipality Chairperson, said that 108 flood and landslide-hit families were provided with cash relief support through the Catholic Relief Service (CRS) before this.

The natural disaster damaged the cultivated land of 2,544 households, 160 water supply projects, one concrete bridge, 47 schools and four health centres in the rural municipality.

The flood and landslide flooded and damaged the local Damphu Park, a 10-bed hospital and a cold storage facility.
