President Paudel leaves for Switzerland

President Ram Chandra Paudel has left for Switzerland this evening to attend the inaugural Forum of the Global Coalition for Social Justice that will take place during the High-level Segment of the 112th Session of the International Labor Conference.

 Vice President Ramsahaya Prasad Yadav, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, deputy prime minister, ministers and high-ranking government officials had reached Tribhuvan International Airport to bid farewell to President Paudel.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has shared in a press statement that President Paudel will address the inaugural Forum of the Global Coalition for Social Justice on June 13.

Paudel is scheduled to hold bilateral talks with his Swiss counterpart Viola Amherd on June 12.

Similarly, President Paudel will leave Geneva for Berlin on June 15 for an official visit to Germany at the invitation of German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier.

Paudel is scheduled to hold official talks with his German counterpart on June 17, the Ministry added.

The President's spouse Sabita Paudel has  accompained the President during the visit.

He will return home in June 19.

Government vehicle torched in Biratnagar

Students of Mahendra Morang Adarsha Multiple Campus set a government vehicle on fire on Sunday.

The vehicle was torched in front of the gate of the campus.

The students torched the vehicle (Ko 1 Jha 644) this morning.

Police said that a fire engine has been called to put off the fire.

Further investigation into the incident is underway, said police.

ICC T20 World Cup: Nepal lose to Netherlands by six wickets

Nepal succumbed to a six-wicket defeat against the Netherlands in their first ICC T20 World Cup match on Tuesday.

Chasing the target of 107 runs set by Nepal, the Netherlands made 107-4 with nine balls to spare.

Max O' Dowd scored highest 54 runs for the Netherlands, Vikramjit made 22 runs and Sybrand 14 runs.

Sompal Kami, Dipendra Singh Airee and Abhinas Bohora took one wicket each for Nepal.

Earlier, Nepal, who were invited to bat first after losing the toss, scored a paltry 106 runs in 19.2 over losing all the wickets.

Captain Rohit Paudel top scored for the team with 35 runs off 37 balls hitting five fours.

Similarly, Karan KC contributed 12 runs off 17 balls and Gulsan Jha made 15 runs off 14 balls.

Likewise, Anil Sah added 11 runs to the scoreboard while other batters failed to score in double digit.

CPN (US) quits Madhes government

The CPN (Unified Socialist) quit the Madhes Province government on Tuesday.

The CPN (US) withdrew the support extended to Chief Minister Saroj Kumar Yadav by recalling its ministers.

Parliamentary Party leader Govinda Neupane, who was appointed as the minister from the CPN (US) and the state minister submitted their resignations to Chief Minister Yadav today.

CPN (US) Chairman Madhav Nepal was in a dilemma whether to stay in the government or not.

Chief Minister Yadav is scheduled to seek a vote of confidence tomorrow.

Nepse surges by 3. 93 points on Monday

The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) gained 3. 93 points to close at 2,113. 27 points on Monday.

The sensitive index, however,  surged dropped by 0. 20 points to close at 378. 92 points.

A total of 9,330,295-unit shares of 317 companies were traded for Rs 3. 89 billion.

 

Meanwhile, Muktinath Krishi Company Limited (MKCL) and Nepal Warehousing Company Limited (NWCL) were the top gainers today, with their price surging by 10. 00 percent.

Likewise, Buddha Bhumi Nepal Hydropower Company Limited (BNHC)was the top loser as its price fell by 10 percent.

At the end of the day, total market capitalization stood at Rs 3. 35 trillion.

Victims of cooperatives take out rally in Kathmandu demanding recovery of their savings

Victims of cooperatives took out a rally in Kathmandu on Monday.

They took out a rally from Maitighar to New Baneshwor this afternoon demanding action against those involved in embezzling their deposits and recovery of their savings.

People swindled by cooperatives have also demanded that the agreements signed between the representatives of victims and the government be implemented at the earliest.

Birgunj schools suspend classes for three days due to extreme heat

Schools in Birgunj metropolis have been closed for three days. Due to the rise in temperature in the area around Birgunj, the schools are going to be closed for three days from May 29 to 31.

With this decision, both community and private schools will suspend their classes for three days.

Arvindalal Karna, head of Birgunj Metropolitan City Educational Administration Division, said that due to the extreme heat, they decided to close the schools. He added that they were reported to close the schools for few days from parents, students and teachers. It is said that the decision was taken as heat-wave could significantly impact the students' and teachers' health while conducting the classes in schools.

According to the decision of Education Committee of the metropolis on April 29, it was decided to start classes from 6 am because of unfavorable weather (extreme heat) during the day time. The classes were conducted in the morning since May 2.

There are 92 community schools and 138 private schools in the metropolis.

Gold being traded at Rs 136, 900 per tola on Sunday

The gold is being traded at Rs 136, 990 per tola in the domestic market on Sunday.

According to the Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers’ Association, tejabi gold is being traded at Rs 136, 250 per tola.

Similarly, the silver is being traded at Rs 1, 855 per tola today.
