Instagram is beginning to test the use of artificial intelligence to determine if kids are lying about their ages on the app, parent company Meta Platforms said on Monday, Associated Press reported.

Meta has been using AI to determine people’s ages for some time, the company said, but photo and video-sharing app will now “proactively” look for teen accounts it suspects belong to teenagers even if they entered an inaccurate birthdate when they signed up. 

If it is determined that a user is misrepresenting their age, the account will automatically become a teen account, which has more restrictions than an adult account. Teen accounts are private by default. Private messages are restricted so teens can only receive them from people they follow or are already connected to. “Sensitive content,” such as videos of people fighting or those promoting cosmetic procedures, will be limited, Meta said, according to Associated Press.

Teens will also get notifications if they are on Instagram for more than 60 minutes and a “sleep mode” will be enabled that turns off notifications and sends auto-replies to direct messages from 10 p.m. until 7 a.m.

The Sagarmatha region has witnessed the footfall of some 700 tourists in a single day.

The  Office of the Sagarmatha National Park at Namche informed that it recorded the number of tourists in Khumbu region at 694 on Monday alone.

Ranger at the Office, Bibek Shrestha, said that most  of the tourists are foreigners- 608, while the domestic tourists figured 86.  

The Sagarmatha climber Temba Chhiri Sherpa informed that with the onset of Spring Season, the region saw the influx of tourists. It is difficult to find good accommodation due to the surge in arrival. 

There are increasing air flights to Lukla with the clear weather, according to Amrit Magar, In-Charge of Tara Air at Lukla.

"We have added flights considering the improved weather so that more tourists would visit the district having worlds' highest peak," he said, adding that hotel reservations are high now.

Senior Vice Chairman of the Trekking Agencies' Association of Nepal, Karma Sherma, said the tourism entrepreneurs were happy to see tourists' inflow. The region is bustling after the Covid-19, which had hit the tourism business hard. 

More number of tourists there are in the Sagarmatha district, the more jobs there are for locals. Hotels at Lukla and Namche are packed, Sherpa added.

Most of these tourists visit the Sagarmatha National Park to increase the revenue. 

The Park's Office informed that a visitor from a SAARC nation is charged Rs 1,500  while Rs 3,000 is taken from each foreigner from other countries as an entry fee in the Park. A Nepali is required to submit Rs 100 entry fee.

The Foreign Minister of the United Arab Emirates is arriving in Kathmandu on an official visit to Nepal.

Also the Deputy Prime Minister of the UAE, Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan is scheduled to arrive in Kathmandu tomorrow.

He will arrive in Kathmandu on a chartered plane tomorrow evening.

During his stay in Nepal, he will pay a courtesy call on Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli.

Similarly, he will hold separate meetings with Minister for Labor, Employment and Social Security Sharad Singh Bhandari among other high-ranking officials.

The Foreign Ministry is making necessary preparations for Sheikh Abdullah's visit.

He will return home on Wednesday.

Foreign Minister Arzu Rana Deuba, however, is currently on a visit to Bangkok.

The government has decided to form a high-level good governance commission.

A Cabinet meeting held on Monday decided to form a high-level good governance commission under the chairmanship of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, a source informed.

The high-level good governance commission, which will also have representation from the private sector, will have 15 members.

Officials from the private sector, the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration, the Public Service Commission, the Planning Commission, and other agencies will be in the commission.

Minister for Education, Science and Technology, Bidya Bhattarai, has resigned from her post on Monday. 

Minister Bhattarai tendered her resignation to Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, said Bhattarai's press coordinator Ramji Lamsal. 

It may be noted that community school teachers have been agitating in Kathmandu for the past few weeks demanding that the government promulgate the School Education Act. 

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has invited agitating teachers, who have been staging protests in Kathmandu for the past 20 days demanding endorsement of the School Education Bill, for talks.

He called on the teachers for a dialogue while inaugurating the 11th National Conference of the Progressive Professors' Organization, Nepal in Kirtipur today

Saying that the present government is democratic and not oppressive, the Prime Minister said that the legitimate demands of the teachers would be addressed.

"The School Education Bill is under consideration in a  parliamentary committee. So, the teachers do not have to hit the streets to get the Bill addressed,” PM Oli said, adding, “The school enrollment campaign has already begun. So, please go to the school and carry out a student enrollment campaign.  Check the answer sheets of SEE.” 

Stating that the students and parents have suffered a lot due to the teachers' movement and it was also not benefiting the teachers as well, he invited  the disgruntled teachers for talks. 

"This is also not the right time for you to agitate when regressive elements are on the rise,” PM Oli cautioned.

Four persons died in a tractor accident at Palanta Rural Municipality in Kalikot on Sunday.

DSP Tik Bahadur Raut of the District Police Office, Kalikot informed that the tractor was heading towards Khin via Dhaulagoha carrying food grains from Thirpu, Palanta Rural Municipality when the incident occurred at 11: 30 pm.

Police identified the deceased as Anna Shahi (32) of Palanta Rural Municipality-5, Sadu Budha (38) and Rabindra Bishwokarma (23) of Palanta Rural Municipality-4 and driver Chandra Prakash Rokaya of Khatyad, Mugu.

Local Dhankad Bishwokarma said that the tractor fell some 200 meters down the road.

Police said that they are looking into the case.

Four persons died and two others were injured after a moving Bolero jeep suddenly caught fire in Taplejung.

The deceased have been identified as 16-year-old Aadhya Acharya of  Lalitpur Metropolitan City-10, 70-year-old Binod Paudel of  Bhadrapur Municipality-15, his 69-year-old wife Sarita Paudel, and the driver, 42-year-old Durga Bhattarai of Phungling Municipality-10, Information Officer at the District Police Office, Bibek Basnet said.

The jeep (Me 1 Cha 3011) was en route to Pathibhara Temple from Phungling when the incident occurred at Sewaro Chowk in Phungling Municipality-10. 

The injured include 45-year-old Sabina Acharya of  Lalitpur-10 and her 10-year-old son Bhavimay Acharya.

The injured are being treated at the District Hospital. .
