Trump signs executive orders targeting colleges, plus schools’ equity efforts
President Donald Trump has ordered sharper scrutiny of America’s colleges and the accreditors that oversee them, part of his escalating campaign to end what he calls " wokeness ” and diversity efforts in education, Associated Press reported.
In a series of executive actions signed Wednesday, Trump targeted universities that he views as liberal adversaries to his political agenda. One order called for harder enforcement of a federal law requiring colleges to disclose their financial ties with foreign sources, while another called for a shakeup of the accrediting bodies that decide whether colleges can accept federal financial aid awarded to students.
Trump also ordered the Education Department to root out efforts to ensure equity in discipline in the nation’s K-12 schools. Previous guidance from Democratic administrations directed schools not to disproportionately punishunderrepresented minorities such as Black and Native American students. The administration says equity efforts amount to racial discrimination, according to Associated Press.
Liverpool must wait to clinch Premier League title after Arsenal draws with Palace
That’s all Liverpool needs to secure a record-tying 20th English top-flight title after second-place Arsenal drew 2-2 with Crystal Palace in the Premier League on Wednesday, Associated Press reported.
Arne Slot’s runaway leaders can take care of business on Sunday by avoiding defeat to Tottenham in what is set to be a big party at Anfield. A draw or a win would ensure Liverpool cannot be caught by Arsenal with four more rounds remaining and therefore clinches a second title in five years, tying with fierce rival Manchester United on No. 20 overall.
Becoming the champion in 2020 ended the storied club’s 30-year title drought but Liverpool’s players couldn’t celebrate in front of their fans because of restrictions during the pandemic.
They’ll try to make up for it this weekend.
Arsenal twice squandered the lead at Emirates Stadium, with Jean-Philippe Mateta taking advantage of a defensive error by William Saliba to score Palace’s second equalizer in the 83rd and leave Arsenal 12 points behind Liverpool, according to Associated Press.
AC Milan ruins Inter’s treble bid with derby win to reach Italian Cup final
AC Milan hasn’t achieved much this season — except when playing city rival Inter Milan, Associated Press reported.
Milan ruined Inter’s bid for a treble and advanced to the Italian Cup final with a 3-0 derby win Wednesday courtesy of two goals from Luka Jovic.
It was Milan’s third win over Inter this season, having also beaten the Nerazzurri in the Italian Super Cup final in January.
“It was a very important game for us. As you know we are not that good in Serie A. We had to show the quality today. We had to show the character,” Jovic said. “And we showed it and we are going to Rome.”
And if Milan can win another trophy, coach Sergio Conceicao might have a chance at keeping his job — despite the seven-time European champion sitting ninth in Serie A, according to Associated Press.
Winning the Italian Cup — which carries a Europa League berth — could be Milan’s only route to a spot in continental play for next season.

Midfielder Eduardo Camavinga had to be replaced because of an apparent muscle injury in the final minutes and is doubtful to be available for Saturday’s final. 19th Democracy Day being observed today
The 19th Democracy Day (Loktantra Diwas) is being observed across the country today by organizing several programs, including offering tributes to the martyrs who sacrificed their precious lives in democratic struggles.
Democracy Day has been observed in commemoration of the historic event when the direct rule and autocratic regime of the King came to an end after the reinstatement of dissolved Parliament..
It may be noted that the autocratic regime was abolished on April 24, 2006 AD ( Baisakh 11, 2063 BS) when the Parliament that was dissolved on May 22, 2002 AD (Jetha 8, 2059 BS) was reinstated.
On the day, former King Shah's proclamation noted, "The House of Representatives (HoR) has been reinstated in accordance with the public sentiment expressed through the present people's movement, keeping in mind the fact that the source of state power rests on the Nepali people and the sovereignty and state power of Nepal lies with the Nepali people".
A meeting of the HoR was convened on April 28, 2006 AD on the strength of the People's Movement with the participation of seven political parties agitating against autocracy and the then rebel Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist).
The Constitution of the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal was proclaimed on September 20, 2015 by the Constituent Assembly through epochal Constituent Assembly elections.
Accordingly, the country is now in the practice of federalism after holding two elections at the federal, provincial and local levels.
Meanwhile, extending best wishes on the occasion of Democracy Day, the leaders of political parties have stressed the need for all forces to unite for the prosperity of the country. It is noted that there cannot be another system of governance better than democracy, so there is an essence to focus all political power towards prosperity keeping this in mind.
Democracy Day has been observed annually since 2008 AD to commemorate the end of the direct and autocratic rule of the then king after the 2006 April Uprising.
