54 escaped prisoners return to Chitwan Jail

Inmates who escaped from the Bharatpur Jail in Chitwan have started returning voluntarily. 

Among the inmates who escaped after breaking jails on Wednesday morning, 54 have surrendered. A total of 740 inmates had fled from Bharatpur Jail. 

Chief of Chitwan District Jail, Ravindra Dhungana, shared the information that the escapees have started to return gradually. 

The inmates had breached the security perimeter of the Nepal Army, Armed Police Force, and Nepal Police to escape. Dhungana informed that the escaped inmates are coming back after telephonic calls. 

'The atmosphere on Wednesday was different. At the moment, everyone fled,' Dhungana said, 'Now the escapees are returning, maybe because they realize the government would not leave them wherever they are’. 

The inmates had started vandalizing the jail and set fires, which put the security personnel in a difficult position to control them. 

After the incident of arson, the security personnel were forced to let the inmates go. The inmates had set the main gate of the prison on fire. The Chitwan jail has a capacity to accommodate only 550, but housed 740 inmates, including 46 women, Dhungana informed.

 

 

 

President Paudel, Speaker Ghimire hold talks

President Ram Chandra Paudel and Speaker Devraj Ghimire held a meeting on Thursday. 

The latest political development and contemporary affairs were discussed in the meeting, informed Speaker’s press expert Shekhar Adhikari. 

On the occasion, the two also discussed the solution of the current political stalemate. 

At the meeting with the Speaker, President Paudel said a political solution will be explored within the ambit of the Constitution. 

The meeting between the President and the Speaker about the political situation evolving following September 8 has been considered an important event. 

 

US senators urge for keeping peace through democratic process

The senators of the United States (US) Foreign Relations Committee have urged to keep peace in Nepal through democratic process. 

Issuing a statement on Thursday about the recent political development in Nepal, senators, Jeanne Shaheen and Chris Van Hollen, said, “The incidents of violence, loss of the lives and arson that occurred in Nepal lately are not acceptable. We extend deep condolence to the families of those killed during the recent protests”. 

Appealing for holding those involved in extreme suppression against the citizens to account, the senators noted, “Nepal has gained significant achievements during the last two-decade of its democratic exercise. It is ever necessary to protect the achievements earned with substantial contributions of the citizens”. 

Stating that the peaceful, dynamic and full democratic Nepal is the shared concern of the people of Nepal, the United States and the region, the senators expressed their confidence that the Government of Nepal would put tough measures to control corruption and fix institutional weaknesses to win the trust of the citizens. 

 

Curfew, prohibitory order in Kathmandu Valley extended till Saturday

The curfew and prohibitory order in Kathmandu, Lalitpur and Bhaktapur have been extended until Saturday morning.

The NepalArmy has issued a curfew order until 6 am on Saturday.

According to the army headquarters, a curfew order has been issued  from 11 am to 5 am tomorrow, Friday, and from 7 pm to 6 am on Saturday.

Meanwhile, the army has stated that movement for essential work will be allowed from 6 am to 11 am and from 5 pm to 7 pm on Friday.

 

 

 

 

Give political outlet through constitutional and democratic measures: UML

The CPN-UML has empathized on exploring the political outlet to the current crisis through constitutional and democratic means. 

Issuing a statement on behalf of the central secretariat of the party today about the recent political situation in the country, UML General Secretary Shanker Pokharel said the country should be given a political outlet in accordance with the constitution and democratic measures. 

The UML has urged President Ram Chandra  Paudel to initiate meaningful dialogue and take lead in line with the spirit of the Constitution. “We urge for the constructive role of the federal parliament, judiciary, provincial assembly, provincial government and local level for the safeguarding of democracy in the critical juncture, " Pokharel said. 

The UML has called for all political parties standing for democracy, republic, peace and national integrity to come to reciprocal dialogue and build an understanding for the protection of constitutional and democratic gains. 

General Secretary Pokharel has drawn attention of all security agencies, including the Nepal Army to check criminal activities, ensure security of citizens’ lives and protect the private and public properties. 

He also demanded fair investigation into the tragic incident of September 9 and legal action against the guilty. 

Likewise, he condemned the arson, vandalism, robbery and criminal activities across the country on September 10.

 

 

 

 

 

34 killed, over 1,000 injured in Gen Z protests: Health Ministry

The Ministry of Health and Population has reported that the death toll from the recent Gen Z demonstrations has reached 34, while more than 1,000 individuals have sustained injuries.

According to Ministry spokesperson Dr Prakash Budhathoki, the fatalities were recorded in various hospitals across the country. 

A total of 1,368 people were reported injured, the majority of whom have already been discharged after receiving treatment.

Among these deaths, six took place in Civil Service Hospital, eight in National Trauma Centre, three in Everest Hospital, two in Kathmandu Medical College, one in Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital, two in Bayodha, three in Frontline, one in B & C, Birtamode, one in Birta City Hospital, two in BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences and five in the Bheri Hospital. 

Likewise, among the injured, 48 are in Civil Hospital, 58 in Trauma Center, 25 in TUTH, 35 in Kathmandu Medical College and 26 in the Birendra Military Hospital. As he said, 949 have already returned home after recovery. 

 

President Paudel says he is making every possible effort for political way out

President Ram Chandra Paudel has informed the public that he is currently engaged in consultations and making every possible effort to address the country’s ongoing challenges from within the Constitutional boundary. 

In a statement issued today, the Head of State said he is focused on identifying constitutional solutions to the current crisis, with an emphasis on preserving democracy and ensuring law and order in the country.

The President also urged all parties to have confidence in the ongoing efforts to address the demands of the agitating citizens. 

He appealed to all sides to cooperate in maintaining peace and stability across the nation. 

 

 

 

 

 

NRB urges BFIs to resume essential services

The Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) has urged banks and financial institutions to operate essential banking and digital payment services through limited staff.

The central bank has instructed all licensed commercial banks, development banks, finance companies, and payment-related entities for business continuity.

The NRB stated in a notice it made public here today that this directive has been given to the BFIs in consideration of the provisions regarding the prohibitory order issued by Nepali Army on September 10.

The bank and financial institutions must provide essential banking and digital payment services by operating their sensitive systems through limited staff. For other systems, arrangements must be made to operate through remote access based on risk," stated the NRB.

Similarly, all BFIs have been urged to inform the public about their branches, ATMs, and available services that have been operationalized in the necessary services through their websites and social media.
