Lionel Messi's two goals lead Miami to playoff-clinching win

Lionel Messi scored his MLS-leading 23rd and 24th goals and added his 13th assist to power visiting Inter Miami to a 4-0 victory over New York City FC on Wednesday night, clinching an MLS Cup Playoff spot, Reuters reported.

Luis Suarez added his seventh goal late from the penalty spot in his return from a three-match suspension as Miami (16-6-7, 55 points) moved above NYCFC (16-10-5, 53 points) and Charlotte into third in the Eastern Conference.

Baltasar Rodriguez added his second goal for the Herons, who are now five points back of Philadelphia, the East and Supporters' Shield leader, with two matches in hand, according to Reuters.

Gold price drops by Rs 1, 700 per tola on Thursday

The price of gold has dropped by Rs 1, 700 per tola in the domestic market on Thursday.

According to the Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers’ Association, the yellow metal is being traded at Rs 221, 300 per tola today. It was traded at Rs 223, 000 per tola on Wednesday. 

Similarly, the price of silver has dropped by Rs 15 and is being traded at Rs 2, 685 per tola.

222 prisoners return to Nawalparasi prison

Prisoners, who escaped from Nawalparasi prison in the course of the nationwide Gen-Z protests, continue to return.

Jailer Bikal Shrestha shared that 222 of the 546 prisoners who escaped on September 9 have returned to the prison so far. 

The prisoners overpowered the security of the prison and escaped, Jailer Shrestha said. However, 17 men and 12 women chose not to run away from the prison. 

He said the prisoners were issued a notice and requested to return, and the prisoners started returning to the prison on a daily basis.

Jailer Shrestha said that 40 of the prisoners who escaped from Nawalparasi Prison are Indian citizens, adding that one has already returned to the prison. According to him, 13 prisoners from Nawalparasi Prison have gone to other prisons in the country and six from other prisons have come here.

Jailer Shrestha informed that two Moroccans and one South African citizen (prisoner) who escaped from the Central Prison are currently in Nawalparasi Prison.

 

One killed in Jhapa elephant attack

A person died after being attacked by a wild elephant in Khalbadi, Birtamod Municipality-7, Jhapa last night. 

A man of around 36 years of age, whose identity is yet to be ascertained, died in the incident, said the District Police Office spokesperson and Deputy Superintendent of Police Khagendra Bahadur Khadka.

The police said that the locals saw the man's body at 6:20 this morning and informed them. 

After receiving information about the incident, a police team was deployed from the Area Police Office, Anarmani, for further investigation and legal proceedings, the District Police Office, Jhapa said.

 

 

Major highways remain completely blocked for traffic

Five major highways have been completely blocked for traffic due to floods and landslides triggered by heavy rains in various parts of the country. 

According to the information provided by the Nepal Police Headquarters, the Koshi Highway in Bhotkhola Rural Municipality-4 and in Makalu Rural Municipality-3 of Sankhuwasabha has been completely blocked due to landslides.

Similarly, the Muglin-Narayanghat road section in Ichchakamana Rural Municipality-5 of Chitwan, and the Mid-Hill Highway in Bhume Rural Municipality-4 of Rukum East have been completely blocked, informed Central Police Spokesperson and Deputy Inspector General of Police Binod Ghimire.

According to him, the East-West Highway in Nawalparasi East, the Kaligandaki Corridor in Baglung, and the Trishuli-Mailung Road in Rasuwa are open for one-way traffic only.

 

Minor dies, two injured after being struck by lightning in Gulmi

A minor died after being struck by lightning in Madane Rural Municipality of Gulmi. 

The deceased has been identified as Riyasa Bik, the four-year-old daughter of Nersingh BK of Jhyanpani, Madane-5, said Ganga Bahadur Saru, Information Officer at the District Police Office.

According to Saru, BK's father Nersingh and mother Suntali were injured in the same incident. 

The incident occurred while they were sleeping at their home, according to the police.

The injured couple has been taken to the District Hospital Pyuthan for further treatment.

Further investigation into the incident is underway, police said.

 

Department of Immigration to continue services during Dashain

The Department of Immigration has decided to keep the tourist visa and agency units open during the Dashain public holidays, except for the day of Tika. 

The department has stated that the services provided by the tourist visa and agency units will be operated from 11 am to 1 pm during the public holidays from September 29 to October 3. 

However, the services will be closed down on the dashami i.e. on October 2.

Department's Immigration Officer Shiva Kumar Adhikari published a notice informing that the services will be operated on all days except the main day during the public holidays of Bada Dashain festival.

 

Heavy rainfall likely in Koshi and Bagmati

Heavy rainfall is likely to occur at one or two places of the hilly regions of Koshi and Bagmati Provinces today. 

With the weather remaining generally cloudy in the hilly areas and partly cloudy in the rest of the country, moderate rainfall with thunder and lightning is likely to occur at some places of the hilly regions of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki, at a few places of the hilly regions of Lumbini and Karnali Provinces, and at one or two places of the rest of the country. 

Tonight, the weather will remain partly cloudy in the hilly areas and mainly fair in the rest of the country. Moderate rainfall is likely to occur at a few places of the hilly regions of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki Provinces, and at one or two places of the remaining hilly regions of the country.

Currently, the influence of monsoon winds has weakened across the country, with local winds having a partial influence.
